And this is why I take the Marriott shop once a year. The Platinum status stays with you. Last week I booked the cheapest room and was upgraded to an executive suite at no charge. Would've been another ~$100 had I booked it directly.

Don’t forget to status match with the competitors like Hilton and partners like United! Hilton also has similar criteria for lifetime Diamond, which status matching helps to add to your portfolio of hotel statuses.
