Similar to Italy. Grocery stores, pharmacies and businesses necessary for public health will remain operational. Anything not required for the public will probably be out of the picture. L.A. city has a separate mandate that goes into effect at midnight. It has a clause that allows businesses selling items that would allow people to work from home (i.e. Office Max) to remain open.
The brunt of it is: You are safer at home. Stay there. You are definitely not allowed to go out for the purpose of mystery shopping....

According to guidelines we are receiving. We can go out for essential activities like shopping at grocery, hardware and auto repair stores, pet stores, nurseries, banks, take out restaurants, even car dealerships. The list is quite extensive. We can exercise outside (walking/ riding bikes) as long as we maintain social distance. I think the idea is that we minimize our time out doing these things.

Italy's death rate compared with S. Korea's seems to have something to do with the age of their population and smokers. This was a recent CNN piece asking why S. Korea has much fewer deaths:

I'm not entirely convinced that age, alone, has been a factor in death rates. It may be. But, what seems most important is whether the person has a pre-existing condition, such as diabetes, lung disease, heart disease, etc. that makes their bodies more vulnerable to the virus. Even then, it's not absolute. The chances of death are certainly much higher, but not absolute.
Overall, hospitalization (and potentially overwhelming the system) is the greatest worry.
If someone has the time, maybe they can look up the demographics of the U.S. compared with Italy's. What percentage are smokers? What percentage are seniors? ...etc.
As of today I finally told my scheduler that I would not do the two jobs I was scheduled for. I had been hoping I could fulfill them for him. Just after sending my first email with a sincere apology and getting his reply the entire state shut down. But unlike Wwin I could not find any guidelines as to what the governor meant by we are ordered to stay home. There does not seem to be any teeth in that order that I can find. It sounds more like a suggestion to me with a long laundry list of reasons to go out. People are still congregating together. They are meeting in smaller groups but meeting with many different people on different days.

I'm not saying this pandemic is good thing, but...perhaps there's something to be learned from it.

I filled my gas tank for $1.45 per gallon yesterday.
A buddy of mine knows a fellow who owns a whole bunch of bars in an area where the police are enforcing a rule of no mare than 10 patrons in the bar at once. Those are not mystery shopped, but the fellow called my friend and offered him a nice fee to check out 10 of his bars to make sure the order is being followed. He risks losing ALL of his liquor licenses if any are shut down for noncompliance. So, a rather strange new MS type seems to have opened for my friend.

GOOD LORD!!! I had linked to a different article describing how the virus affects the lungs . . . totally opposite of intended link. Fixed that now!.
MsJudi, As of today Friday all borders Mexico and Canada will be closed. All the college kids have been told to go home or they will have to stay indefinitely in Mexico. If you paid for a trip wait until the border closes and you will get your money back. Not sure of the exact date, but very soon.

The lung diseases they are finding when someone gets the virus is possibly from vaping. They have noticed scar tissue in mostly young males.
I'm going to get fat too as I've been cooking up a storm and have a collection of "make someday" recipes that I plan on trying since it seems it's "someday."
Yes, I saw the news conference advising of border closings with Mexico and Canada. I have the "cancel for any reason" insurance so I would expect to get all my $ back regardless, minus the insurance cost. However, it's disappointing as it's about the only big vacay I do each year and meet up with friends who have moved to all parts of our great country. It will be difficult to reschedule, but hopefully we all will be able to do it.
I would like to add my good wishes and thankfulness to all our government leaders, as well as, the health care workers who are working endlessly on this. It must be so stressful and exhausting for them. The pressure to get it right is immense.

I do, LOL, but it's probably not up to your microbrew delicious Seattle standards. It's Dos Equis, Sam Adams, and Great Lakes. I think you might like the Great Lakes okay. I still have some GL Christmas Ale and the others are Dortmunder and a Pale Ale.
I took a nap today and woke up with my Aussie - Pyree next to me and my Border Collie sleeping on my feet. My partner came home with 12 Bud Lights (Lites??) and some other Belgian brew.
I am drinking a rum and Coke. A local market had 16.9 oz six pack plastic bottles on sale for $2.20 each, which is a pretty good deal. I bought 3 six packs of that. We have lots of booze but might have to stock up some more before they close the liquor stores, too.
