App for temporary phone numbers

What is the best (iPhone) app to generate temporary phone numbers? My project will only last a couple of months, so looking for something that won't cost a lot.

I use Google Voice, too, on Android. But I understand that there's an app that lets you use it on iPhone.

I thought you could only have one Google Voice number per account. Or do you have multiple accounts?

You can have one active number at a time, but you can change numbers frequently and, when you do, you still get messages on your old number for a while. With my real number and two GV numbers going, I can handle a lot of shops at once - as I’m generally shopping multiple clients.

I used Google Voice at first, but then they put limits. The last time I needed mutliple numbers at once, I used the Burner app. It charges, but not much.

Textnow is another good one. It's free you just have to use it once in awhile to keep the number active and they remind you.

I have several accounts using Gmail.

I recently needed a new phone number that had the ability to record incoming calls. I looked around and decided that Hushed was best for me. They have several plans, and right now I am on the unlimited minutes of calling plan for about $5 a month. If anyone knows a better app, please let me know. I also use Burner, but Burner does not record incoming calls.

BTW, when using the Sassie outgoing call recording service, the company you are calling can see your phone number (and maybe your name) even if you use *67 before you dial the Sassie number. The MSCs that say to use *67 to block caller ID are wrong. I learned that the hard way when apartment complexes started calling me back even though I had used *67 to call the Sassie recording number.

Are you calling toll free numbers? *67 doesn't work on them.

Sassie provides a toll-free number that you dial in order to make recorded calls (it also requires an "access code" and a "verification code" so that the system knows what phone number to dial. Many MSCs say that your phone number will not be displayed when you use the recording system. Not true. In the past, some posters here have said that your number will not be displayed if you DON'T use *67. Others said your number will not be displayed if you DO use *67. My experience is that it is at best inconsistent and you don't know what will be displayed. So, I have decided to use Hush to make the call to the Sassie recording system. If a number is displayed, it is the "untraceable" number that I rent from Hush. My name is not displayed, and I can use any alias that I want.

You are definitely correct that if you call a toll-free number, that your phone number and associated name will always be displayed even if you use *67.

Yes, you definitely don't want them to have your number. Some agents are pretty pushy.
