If there was a blizzard and they decided to close early, no one would answer the phone. So, you are supposed to go to the location to find out if it is really closed. Also, when do you call? I stopped calling because they are "always" often. And because one time I called at 1 PM to verify that they were open until 10 PM. Got there at 9:32 for a late-night shop, and the entire area was dark. Due to a car accident, the entire area including the store lost power at 8:55 PM (verified on Social Media after the fact to prove to the MSC that they were supposed to be open). I was already on the road.
I have a fairly distant light-night shop on Labor Day. I am thinking about calling on Sunday to verify their Monday hours. No blizzards are expected in this area on Labor Day, but we could have a thunderstorm or a car accident that will knock out power.

Why aren’t you people calling the restaurants before going if it’s potentially far away?
