I don't know how Five Guys stays in business!

A little fry, hamburger and small drink comes in at $15.46 so it is a penny over the $15.45 reimbursement in my area.

A little fry, hamburger, and a small drink cost me $15.36 (with tax) today at a location in PA today.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
Not long ago I could get the little burger, little fry, and small soda for slightly over reimbursement here in Pa., but lately all the locations have increased their prices. I think they charge more in urban areas. Where I was this week is in a larger area than my own, but even my local place runs more than $16 for that meal, though, not quite a buck cheaper than across the river..

I am not picking on 5Guys-- because all salted fries are off my list now. I am watching my sodium intake. The 5 Guys fries contain 1,330 mg of sodium per serving. This is 55% of the RDA for sodium. Damn! Those salty fries are good! But they are not good for me. *sigh* As a non-shopper, I could just get the veggie sandwich, or something. But I am eating at home now and altering my cooking style.

I wish they'd offer another choice of side there. Like you, I'm watching my sodium (by necessity, not desire, although I don't use much salt to begin with). The burgers have much less sodium than the veggie sandwich! But those fries are a killer.

Did they shake the fries 15 times? How silly.
MSC called me today. Wouldn’t budge at all on the $18 offer. C’mon! Really? I got a different location for $25. Why? It’s been a long time since I got more than $25. What gives?

They declined an offer for a drive in shop that I have received more than once in the past. Their stubbornness could be a reason they’re losing clients and shoppers.
When it comes to eating out, people generally don’t care about the price.

Take delivery apps for instance. They mark the items up, charge all sorts of fees and people still use them all the time.

5G is expensive, but the franchise operators have to be making money or else they would close up shop. Either the margins must be high or the operators are running at a loss and dumping their debt into the business so their other ventures are profitable.
Good to know about the sodium difference between burgers & veggie sandwiches. I only looked at the fries. Thank you for looking at more menu items! smiling smiley

I have some pretty tough medically necessary dietary restrictions, but I didn't want to stop doing Five Guys shops! So I read just about all of the nutrition info on the website, both the counts for the menu items as prepared and the detailed nutrition info on the individual components. I have to admit I was surprised at what I found. Every once in awhile I get a BLT or grilled cheese & tomato, but then I have to really watch what I eat otherwise on that day. I can, and do, fix both of those at home, and I'm sure they're healthier, but it's such a treat to get them when dining out.

I do love the burger in a bowl, though, so it's not much of a sacrifice to get that most of the time--LOL.

I like when I've done a shop in the past out of state when I was on vacation and they keep calling back to do it. I say, "That's over 5 hours round trip, so no, I won't do it for $15" Then they come back with, "How about $18?"
LOL
Why would you do that?

I went to 5G's on my own dime the other day to get a little burger and it was $11.26. I wanted the fries, but like BirdyC stated, they were over $5.00, so I declined.

Actually, it's not. I've noticed that when the fries aren't shaken enough, they're often greasy and/or limp. Shaking appears to relieve the fries of excess grease.

It's probably a requirement for that exact reason. They want to make sure it is being done.
I thought shaking fries might stop the fries from sticking together.

Bit of both. It does separate them, but the big thing is getting the excess oil off so they crisp a bit on the outside and aren't a total oil slick.

Whatever the reason, if you've ever picked up a fry basket - with fries in it - you know that just moving it from point A to point B strains all kinds of muscles you never knew you had. Add the shaking movement, repeatedly, all day. I'm surprised this is not an OSHA violation. Those poor fry shakers are going to have physical issues. My shoulders hurt just watching it.
Not at all! Shaking is how the salt spreads and the grease moves.

I also hate how the fries are just dumped in the bag.

I dislike that as well... along with not providing trays. You have to dump everything on the table and eat on wrappers/napkins, which usually ends up in a big mess from what I've observed.

In regards to fast food prices... a year or two ago, BK had a promotion in their app where you got a free kids meal with any purchase. So you could buy a $1 hamburger, and get another burger plus fry/drink for free (and a toy, lol). It also would reset every day... I did that many times, and was bummed when they stopped it.

I used to do the Wendy's 4 for $4 often... that's still a pretty good deal.
I have not shopped 5 G for several years but I used to get the veggie sandwich and it was the smallest sandwich I have ever seen. About a year ago I started going to BK due to getting a free Whopper every couple of months from TMobile. They also have a $3 Whopper every Wednesday and you can get the reg one or the impossible whopper. I think they are great and about 3x the size of a 5G burger. In my area the sodas are $1.49 with refills free and fries are around $3 but if you wait to order them they are $1, The combo Whopper is about $7,99 with fries and a drink.
But for me the big issue is in my area there are so many different burger chains now I cannot keep track of them. Too much competition and most of them are expensive. I have heard of at least 25 chains and I dont even eat at any of them. I am sure there are 25 I never heard of plus the mom and pop ones all over. Most look fairly empty when I pass by.
Call from the Philippines
"Blah blah blah can you help out for $18?"
"I got an email offering $25"
"Hang on, please hold...no just $20 is the maximum"
"No"
Next morning email: $27
"Ok"
No reply
Call from the Philippines
"Blah blah blah can you help out for $25?"
"No. $27"
"Hang on...no $25 is the maximum."
"Lmao. No."

I'm getting 3-4 calls a day now and they won't budge at all. They never accept the email offers (that they offer). They never accept the MAO on their platform. Lol. Ok. Gas is near $7 a gallon here. The minimum order isn't covered by the reimbursement. My time isn't free. I'm now only offering $50 on MAO to try to set a new standard. Shame on you $12 peeps. Shame. (Only kidding, as I fully understand the need to get a free meal.)
The fees go up on Fridays.

The salt is added after they're dumped into the bin.
Now that my husband is retired he usually goes with me to Five Guys. He only gets a sandwich and a cup for water (we share the fries) I told him as long as he realized that he was eating into my profits I would be happy to buy him a meal.

So they essentially get a customer they may not otherwise get a full price and offer a discount to the evaluator...and they get some feedback in the process.

You could just order the BIG burger and cut it in half. The fries is enough for 2 people (probably 3).

Just had a $40 MAO accepted at the West Orange, NJ 5G.

Never thought it would happen. I MAO of $100 for the late night shop and it always gets declined lol.
I don't like gimmicky marketing. They call 1 patty a Little Burger. That's what everybody else calls a burger. It's not a Little Fry. 5Gs sells only large fries. That's what it is when you dump in a bunch of extra fries and charge almost 5 bucks for it.

The food's OK, it's not great. I can get a Sonic bacon cheeseburger combo for half the price, it's just as good and I'm under reimbursement. BK papers the town with coupons, some of which are really good deals, e.g. 3 Whoppers, 3 cheeseburgers, 3 small fries, $14. In the mailbox twice a month.

There's no way I would eat at 5Gs on my dime.

Sonic’s burger meats are precooked and then reheated.

Burger King’s meat are basic frozen Pattie’s.

The meat at Five Guys is admittedly much higher quality including any of their ingredients altogether.

Very infrequently shopping the Greater Denver Area, Colorado Springs and in-between in Colorado these days.
plus 5G offers all-you-can-eat peanuts
5G also offers free refills on their 3.49 small drinks, and the sandwich price includes any toppings you want. I was at a Brooklyn 5G last week and the place was jammed packed. So people are paying their prices. Like the $4.99 I paid for little fries, but it could have fed 4 people. One customer had three refills on his drink! Four drinks total--two of them before his burger was ready! LOL

So for big eaters 5G might be a "value" meal.

We used to complain years ago about their regular fries quantity being excessive, which is why they came out with little fries. Maybe it's time for nano fries!

I wish they had chili as a topping. Imagine a chili cheese dog with all the toppings! Or a bowl with chili, cheese, jalapeno, onions...
