As others have mentioned, most of the MSCs have a cap on the number of call attempts they expect. However, they do not all have a cap, and some indeed expect you to continue making calls until you reach someone. I fired one MSC within the year because I wasn't into making an indefinite number of phone calls for what was supposed to have been a quick little $5.00 apartment call shop. I forgot how many calls I ended up making, but I finally canceled the shop, finished out what I had with the MSC, and haven't taken anything else with them. I no longer take assignments with the Naked company either because of similar and related experiences.
The very real thing with such, and some companies in particular, is that they will eat up time that you really should have been spending on the next and the next and the next shop, while you keep going back to this one shop that is now down to pennies on what you are going to make for your time. I mean, less than $1 an hour when they stretch out like that, and that is not even counting the report. It is not just another phone call. You have to go back and refresh your backstory and the guidelines every single time you make another call attempt, or you will end up botching the shop and having it rejected anyway, yep, been there, done that too after I don't even remember how many call attempts. And the whole time, you could have already moved on, but they are taking a perpetual place on your schedule when you could have been doing other shops that you would actually get paid for in that same amount of time. I do a fair number of phone shops, but the apartment shops are now on my ten foot pole list. The Naked company is too. I am also very wary of any assignments that don't mention a cap on the number of expected phone call attempts. How I handle it really does depend on my relationship with the MSC. But this one sure did strike a nerve. I have been burnt on such as well.
How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?
"Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."
