Marked down on a gas station shop. It wasn't dark enough

I did a night time gas station shop. I was told to go after dark, after the sun goes down. Sun down was at 5:24pm. The pictures were taken at 5:35. All the lights to the gas station were on. The editor told me it wasn't dark enough and gave me a rating of 6.

I once had an editor ask why I did not count off for the sticker of the tiger on the pump. If the lights are all on and it is after sunset time, it's dark in my book. If it's still kind of light out and some of the lights may not have come on yet, only then will I give it a little longer.

The pictures show all the lights on.
Adjust your camera settings. Turn off Night Mode or any other setting that makes the background (night sky) appear lighter than it actually is.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. It's discouraging to hear this. I hope you pursue this issue.
Isn't it strange how the shopper, is supposed follow the guidelines as written. Yet, the editors in too many instances are allowed to interpret or mis-interpret the guidelines and hence, pass judgement on your work.

I know that is a rhetorical statement, yet it seems to happen more frequently than I am accustomed. previously.
Sometimes when doing a darkness shop I will start before sunset, and then take the overall and ID photos after sunset when it is clearly getting dark. Once an editor tried to kick back a report, saying the pump photos were taken in daytime. Luckily I was able to push back on that, saying I didn't realize the pumps had to be evaluated in the dark.

I don't think the OP is concerned about the score, just the fact the editors are going outside the guidelines.
I tried to find a definition of "night" that would support the editor, and I could not. I suggest asking them for a reputable internet reference that disagrees with this from Wikipedia:
"Night (also described as nighttime, unconventionally spelled as "nite"winking smiley is the period of ambient darkness from sunset to sunrise during each 24-hour day when the Sun is below the horizon. [en.wikipedia.org]

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
If you’re assigned to shop when it’s dark: Visit any day the site is open when it’s DARK -
between sunset and sunrise.

My interpretation of a dark shop is it's pitch dark outside. But I think they want it to be dark, not light, and all elements should be completed in the dark. It is a darkness shop.
I had the same thing happen to me. Im glad I am not thr only one. Lol. I just pretty much ignored it and moved on. I agree with you on it, but I didn't think it was worth the hassle of trying to appeal it.
That is the good news; you still get paid w/o any deduction there.

I've done several at sunset w/o any issue.

Most def one of the editors from xxxx.

I did that, I doubt it will make any difference. I get paid anyway.

Who cares what the “score” is as long as they pay.

Sometimes a low average score will prevent you from doing shops that require a minimum score. If your average is 7 and the MS company requires 8 to be assigned a shop, you're out of luck.
