AAA - Roadside Assist phone call

Anyone getting tired of seeing the AAA - Roadside Assist phone call $50 postings on the "quickly" aggregator site?
My area is so polluted with those things.
Over half of the jobs posted are these things.
Why does there need to be one every 20 miles?
(Can you tell I hate them)

To each our own. I would like to try one just to know what the fuss is all about but am not a AAA member.

The shops are simple, but you're only allowed to do them once every 3 months, because they don't want you to use up all of your AAA free service calls. It paid for my membership, and I got paid for a service call that I actually needed. And when I don't need to see them, I type AAA into the search bar and then click the box for hide from results.

I wasn't either. So I joined for, I think, $37. Since that fee was required to do the shop, it goes on schedule C as a business expense. The shop fee also covered the expense. Now I have 3 free calls left for personal use and as the year wears on, I will use them for intermittent shops if I don’t actually need them. Win - win - win!

The shops are everywhere, and it says that you don't even have to pick a pin close to where you are. So I used one to cover the cost of the membership, one because I needed a jump start, and it covered the cost of the shops that I missed because the battry was dead on my "new" car. And I still got to reschedule those shops and do them a different day. And I still have 2 that I can do and get paid for, before my membership lapses in October. And if the shops are still being offered I'll most likely do another to cover the membership renewal too, might even upgrade if they make me a good offer.

I don't have a car now. But the last one I did was for a jump start. They walked up to my truck and hooked up a a portable battery to my trucks battery, and amazingly my truck started!

Easiest mystery shopping money i ever made Join triple A if you have to you'll still be ahead of the game after one shop.

Yes, I have no issue with the shop itself, just the fact that the board is saturated with them!

Unfortunately that only works in the ‘List’ mode.

I use the mobile website version and once I use the list mode to filter out a certain shop name, I swipe back over to map and they're gone. Desktop and app each work differently, though, and I find them more difficult to use and wonky.

whatever I search for or hide from the results shows on the map too, not just on the list. If I hide the AAA shops, they all disappear from the map, on EVERY device. My phone, my tablet and my desktop computer.

This is useful to me because I considered joining just to be able to do these and cover the membership expense. I actually locked my keys in the vehicle picking up livestock feed at a loading dock. So embarrassing. There was a guy there who repos and had the necessary equipment to help but I was thinking that was a pretty extreme stroke of luck that I should not count on happening again.

Having been in the boonies, and working, when I locked my keys in, I now keep a spare key attached to the underside of my car. I might get dirty but I'll get in.

I have depended on AAA a lot. I was single, and the men in my life were gone or unreliable or both. Before and after I got my degree in automotive technology. I always had a AAA membership right up until I left CA. It was how I got my 68 Mercury Comet Caliente towed to my grandpa's house when the axle bearings gave up the ghost on the freeway. My house was 2 hours away and AAA wouldn't tow it that far.

Since the instructions say they can be done anywhere, have any of you ever done one of these from your own driveway?
I guess you could say the battery's dead.?

Yep. Right in my driveway. Lock-out scenario. I claimed to have lost the spare. Easy peasy, without leaving home.

This is what I was thinking. And I also think the spare could be found by an assistant at an opportune moment to avoid them actually popping the lock?

I'm blonde, so ok I'll bite.

How do you create that when your vehicle does start? lol.

I'm just thinking how to create a problem when there is no problem.
I do get the lost spare key one....so thinking about that.

They never check in advance to see if my car really doesn't start. They attach a battery and tell me to try now. "Amazingly" it starts!

Bare, they don't even check to see if the car will start to begin with. They pull the truck up, hook up the battery and tell you to start your car. Unfortunately the last jump start, the one I actually needed, shorted out my back up camera. The fuse is still good, so I bought I new camera. But I haven't installed it yet, it's been raining a lot, and I can't get to my tools without help (they're in the moving van still).

How were you able to capture a photo of the truck when it was just you and the driver and when you could get a photo, the driver was standing in front of the truck?

When the truck arrived, I took a pic. And another few while the guy was doing stuff to my car. The vehicles were perpendicular because mine was in the driveway and the other on the street.
