Gas station shops - some observations 2010 vs 2026

I did quite a few gas station shops in 2009 and 2010. Most of the time I saw them posted for $10-$12 + $1-2 reimbursement (small item inside, receipt required). I never accepted those dollar amounts.I worked out routes and bonuses with the MSC to get them done (normally $20-$25 each depending on how far a station was).

For kicks I decided to look today (with no intention of getting any) and I'm seeing them posted for $7-$10 lol!

Seems like 3 main companies were posted around me for 10 - $12 and sat for a month until bonused decently, yet people were taking them under $20. The red white and blue company is worth 58 billion so why can’t they pay shoppers decently especially since they aren’t paying mileage? Worse is that $2 will purchase nothing in the cstore. Everything is $2.99 and over.

They didn't get worth $58 billion by writing a bunch of checks. smiling smiley
I also remember when one gas station paid $5 for gas for each job. Now it's $2 each job.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.

I'm guessing that the MSC's are getting paid fairly well and that there's is little to no discussion of how much the shoppers get paid. The companies that sign these contracts probably look at it like its not their business. i.e. If I sign a contract with a parts supplier, would I ask them how much they pay their employers, or their contractors? Probably not, unless they are of the newer social responsibility mindset that exists in some companies.

On a higher note, I'm seeing Exxon posted at a higher starting fee.
"Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout The Good Old Days", LOL!
I usually pick up shops when they are bonused. The English shops are way underpriced at their regular price. Red, white and blue shops I do when the total amount goes above $15 because I can complete them in 1/2 hour, including report. And there are more of them in my area than the others.

Do not read so much, look about you and think of what you see there.

yes seems like lots of wage deflation in the MSC arena.
I sympathize with those who want to and aren't able to find better ways to earn income..
Unless this floats their boat and to each their own.

Life was passing like a hand waving from a train I wanted to be on
I thought I saw once where the franchise owner has to pay for the shops, like $2-300 every month or something.
I want to see what happens with the Sunocos because you have to buy a minimum of a gallon of gas but, as of right now, you're only reimbursed $5.
There are different red white and blues and the one that I presumed being discussed has a market cap of $360B and sometimes they are black, red, and white, another one has a market cap of $600B, and yet another is $70B. Why would we use their market cap as a gauge on how much they pay? Does that mean the one that is sometime red, black, and white should only pay 60% of what the one with the largest market cap pays? If the stock market went through an extended bear market for the next 5 years and these three were trading at half of today's levels, would we then be okay with accepting half the rate to do the shop?

I saw something that claims the stations are billed $58 per visit on the red/white/blue sometimes red/black/white, but I suspect that is dated info

@ArkLaMissshopping those $5 gas days weren't that long ago. Those were the days of gas cans being put to good use.

Momomomo,

The reason I mentioned colors is because we aren't supposed to be loose lipped with client names, and also because it was the one I happened to look up, and the one I happened to do the most of, and for no other reason. So the answer is no to all of your questions. My point is that big oil companies are worth billions and they really could be paying a reasonable price for the services they are asking for instead of making us work for pennies while they rake it in on us burning up their precious $5/gallon gas to perform the service. I know I posed it as a question, but don't be fooled, I don't really want an answer as much as I want to make people think about just who they are doing these bottom dollar jobs for.

It's really weird to me how many people will defend an oil company for offering 8, or 10 or $12 for a shop. Have at it.

Hope everyone is having fun, and everyone is enjoying the sunshine today.

All depends on the job. I did 6 today for a 12 mile round trip in 1.5 hours including submission. Used 1.75 in gas. I was quite satisfied with my hourly rate for those.
