Sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately, alot of scammers use the names of legit companies. Mystery shop companies don't send you money up front and never pay in the amounts the scammers are sending out. Most mystery shop companies don't ask for all your contact info in an email. You have to go to their site, register directly with them. Many mystery shop companies even have warnings on their sites about scammers.

Don't get discouraged, if you liked mystery shopping go to the bottom of the page here and see a legit list of companies that pay for work completed. smiling smiley
@spiffy

You should let the bank know as fast as you can that you don't think the check will clear!!!

Trying to deposit a check that is phony is: well....not good and can get you in trouble. However if you tell them you think it is a problem they can research it with their fraud department and you will not be penalized.

I fell for a scam as well answering an ad for a "job" on Craigslist. My credit union would not research it but the bank came back within minutes and let me know the check was counterfeit. The scammers used an account that was not theirs.
The bank told me IF I would have tried to deposit it or cash it I would have been guilty, but since I never expected the check to clear. I was not. I called the FBI and they told me to report it on the internet crimes site. I was supposed to keep all evidence, except the check--as it was confiscated by the bank. but the FBI was too busy to collect my little envelope of evidence. SAD that there are so many crimes they have to investigate. I had a telephone number of someone in the US that told me I was hired and to send an email to accept the "position"...FEDEX said that the check was sent by a "ghost" someone received the check and used someone else's fedex account to send it to me.
