BBQs: Charcoal vs. Gas or Other Method

I would love to go up against Bobby Flay on Iron Chef...yes, I know I'd finish a miserable last, but the rush would be worth it.

My niece wants a BBQ cookoff between my two brothers and me. It would be soooo much fun, but the logistics of getting us all in one place at the same time along with having the equipment available have prevented us from giving it a shot.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
For those interested in lighting charcoal fast, do what the guys & gals at Purdue University do...pile your charcoal in the grill, light a cigarette, place it in the charcoal pile, then slowly add liquid oxygen...charcoal ready in about 3 seconds.

I gave in, and bought a new charcoal chimney. It helps that I used a $5 birthday coupon from Ace Hardware.
Love those Ace coupons. If you didn't know, they will take them after the expiration datewinking smiley One around here, and only one, carries a great variety of wood including pecan and grape, along with some good sauces. So worth the trip.

Instead of making a mod., I've also been thinking about a cheap, Brinkman smoke-and-grill (about $50). Does anyone have any experience with that model?

BBQ is best cooked on charcoal... You can feel a clear difference between charcoal cooked BBQ and gas cooked BBQ. So, I always prefer charcoal for BBQ.
