IPad, IPhone, which one?

I will soon be purchasing a new cell phone which has all of the goodie's on it.
It MUST BE easy to learn ! lol
Sure would like some suggestions from those who have expertise in this field.
Please don't mention doing a cell phone shop; been there and it seems they are all alike.

I have both an iPad and an iPhone.

If you need a new phone, then you should get an iPhone. You can't use an iPad as a phone, a.though you can use it to send text messages and to Skype.
I agree with the iPhone because of the simplicity. Friends have recommended I switch to an Android, but there was virtually no learning curve. I literally bought it just a few days before my first video road trip and was using it for everything from voice navigation to photos to voice recording, all with just free apps.

the I pad is a tablet computer and not a phone..

so if you want a phone your need to by a phone

as of right now the cost is about the same android and iphone... but the iphone locks you into the mac system... if you don't have a MacBook or apple computer at home I would suggest android... it will let you use any computer available...

I didn't have any other Apple products and one of my first questions was about using it with my Windows based computers. It has never been an issue. Right now my laptop is Windows and my photos, calendars, contacts, etc. all sync seamlessly to the iPhone and iPad.

I have an iphone but I don't have a MacBook or Apple computer and I have absolutely no problems. It's a complete nonissue.

Ummm.... I have an iPhone and and iPad but don't have a MAC or Apple computer. Just have a regular ole desktop PC and I'm able to connect and sync. I'm able to snyc either device via WiFi to iCloud, Dropbox or any other cloud storage and to iTunes,

CoteP, try a search on the forum for MSing technology or any word combination thereof. There's lots of great tips and suggestions on what other shoppers use and prefer.

But remember you have to use it so pick what you like and feel comfortable with!
android.

It may be alittle more complex at first to learn, but it is
much more adavanced then current generation iphones...
and once you learn it you wont want to switch

Droid Does.

I have an iPhone, which was my first smart phone. It's okay but I'm not married to it, and I kind of bristle at being locked into Apple/iTunes for everything.

My husband has an android, which I've gotten to play with. It's not complicated, just different. I've also gotten to use a Nokia Windows phone, which is really neat.

T-Mobile and AT&T have both moved away from contracts with discounted phone prices. Sprint continues to struggle with burdens of the past, Nextel, signal strength and slow speeds. I would first choose my carrier, then the phone.
A month or two ago, I saw an early morning tv news show and there is an iPad out with the phone built in. Has anyone seen that one?

eveb: yes you can sync up mac's and pc's... but as you yourself have pointed out its a multi step process with a wifi home connection and possibly needing access to a third program in order to access your computer

with android you just pop in the usb and the drivers load... and then you can click and drag what you need...

Actually, that's what I do if I want to sync it with my computer or iTunes, which I don't, I plug in the USB cord to the device then to my computer. iTunes pops up and I drag and Drop. I don't involve a third program

My point was you are not locked into a Mac or Apple computer, or did I miss something in your original post?
With the exception of music, mine syncs through the cloud meaning no need to use the cable at all.

1. itunes is a third program... both of you keep mentioning it... on a pc it is necessary to download the program... internet access
2. use of the cloud requires again needs internet access on both items such as icloud/itunes...also you have to access the same account to sync... login info

none of this is needed with an android phone... all you need is the phone, usb cord, and computer... all software necessary is already installed, no further passwords need to be entered, nor is internet access needed neither on the phone nor on the computer

plug and play

How do you sync your calendar or photos? Do you have to plug it in each time? All I'm saying is the program and password allowed me to set up everything to now sync on its own. For me those few minutes were worth the results. I make a change to my calendar on my PC and watch it change on both my iPad and phone. Pics I take don't need to be moved to Dropbox because they sync with every device without cables.

It is not like I have shares in Apple or anything so whatever someone feels comfortable with is cool. OP asked for something easy and iPhone was easy for me.

Re: Android Phones:

My Google calendar and contacts usually* sync automagically to both my phone and the web.
* I have an older phone with an older Android OS, and the calendar app can be buggy. Sometimes, I have to turn off and on the syncing, or purge the data and resync it to get it to update on the phone.
I didn't like switching from Palm Desktop, and I still sometimes really miss it.

Dropbox automatically uploads from my phone and then downloads to my laptop.

I use Evernote for notes - software on my laptop, app for my phone and web for access from everywhere else.
All of you are trying to be helpful but the more I read the less I know and that's really saying something. I'm off to buy some more No. 2 pencils and spiral notebooks and I'm going to see if I can pick up a rotary dial phone somewhere. Here in Texas we had breathtaking clouds today. Is that where you keep your stuff? How do you know which cloud? And where is that dropbox thing I hear about? Will I find it on a corner?

The Dropbox is in the Cloud. It's a great way to magically get your photos from your phone to your computer and to backup files on the Net - no wires required. :-) [db.tt]
lol... cote you can always just pick one and if you don't like it you can switch pretty easily...

I have both an iPhone and iPad, and I work on a windows PC. I love my iphone for shopping, there are more and more companies coming out with apps for it. It is so easy, so convenient, and much quicker than entering on the PC. The PC is still available should I have to use it.
No problems syncing at all, and I would definitely recommend apple to other products for their ease of use and stability.

If I were in such a situation, I will prefer iPhone because iPad cannot fulfill my phone needs. However, iPhone can be used as a mobile computer or a cell phone.

I have a BlackBerry (really work's phone but I use for personal as well), and a iPhone 4S that is wifi only (no cellular service as I am too cheap) that I use for my mystery shopping calendar and apps. I also have a work mifi that comes in handy when on the road and need to get reports done before my failing memory forgets important details.

If I had no limit of money and could just choose whatever I wanted in a phone, I would choose the Galaxy Note 2. Reason is that the screen is bigger so it combines the usage of a iPad mini with a phone. It does run on the Android platform so I could use any app available for Droid. I'm planning on putting this on my Christmas list from Santa Claus (I can dream!! LOL). Realistically, by the time I get it, the Note 3 or 4 will be out.

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.
I bought an iPad a while back. I can take my pictures and file my reports. Only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to upload pictures from it if it is even possible. If it is, it's going to be great. It's nice and light weight and when I'm sitting around, I can play Candy Crush. lol

Upload pictures the way you would on any other computer as long as the site doesn't require IE or Flash. I do it all the time.

you want to buy things that have been out for a while... new has all the bugs..

I have heard some phones go through as many as 7 different updates... both software and hardware...

new is a luxury used is a necessity
