Do You Like Five Guys Burgers? (not a mystery shopping-related question)

Just curious.

I don't see what's so special about them and why people pay $7 or so for one.

I think their fries are divine, though.

No, I do not like them enough to spend my own money on them, and I don't find the combination of payment and reimbursement currently offered to be enough to convince me to mystery shop them when there are so many other, much better, burger places. I also like crispy fries rather than boardwalk fries, so I find their fries greasy and limp and not worth the cost. I also don't like their hot dogs as much as those of their competitors. Five Guys gets a big NO from me.

Their burgers are ok and i agree with rofl about the fries. Too soft even though 5guys thinks they are good. The shops don't pay much but it covers the cost of the meal and I make a few bucks afterwards. I like that the meat isn't frozen and their buns are much healthier than Mickey D's, etc.

I do. But, sometimes the fries are better than the hamburger. That is, if the fries are done right. Lately, some have been well done/sitting around too long. I don't know that it would be worthwhile to do Five Guys unless you liked their food. If you didn't, you'd have to get a big bonus for the shop to be worth it.

Hmmm. Are the buns really more healthy than McD's and other ff places?

I think it tastes alright, but I wouldn't pay $12 for a burger, drink, and fries. It's more the cost probably than anything else. I could eat at a buffet for that amount.

If the burgers were sublime and out of this world for me, then I might consider it once in a while. But, for some reason they taste very plain to me.

I don't really like the burgers. They are bland. The fries are so-so as well. The free meal isn't really worth it unless I can bring home a shake to the kiddos!

I was thinking they might be healthier and that's why they're bland. The more fat and sugar you have in a burger, then better it probably tastes I'm guessing.

My guess is most of the buns contain high fructose corn syrup and the burgers are bland because they don't season the meat well before cooking.

The cost is not the deciding factor for me. There are a couple great, local burger joints where I would gladly pay the money and enjoy the meal. Five Guys doesn't cut it. Not to mention I normally don't think about just going out for a burger. It's gotta be a burger and a beer

Not a fan of their food or their shops. I've tried the food three times in three different locations. None were good. On top of that, the reimbursement doesn't quite cover the cost of the meal near me. For one of the shops, the guidelines said it was okay to order a milkshake and you would be reimbursed $2 or so, and you would need to answer additional questions. But the milkshake costs $5. There is nothing about 5 Guys that makes sense to me. I don't see what all the hype is about. We need In-and-Out burgers on the East Coast.

There was a story recently stating Five Guys was "healthier" because they put twice the amount of eggs in their buns as the competition. I'm not buying that, literally or figuratively.

Their burgers are hit or miss for me. I would never pay for them, I only do them on shops. I'm not a fan of their fries either. I like skinnier fries like Steak & Shake's.

Did a lot of 5 Guys the year I was paying house payment plus rent on an apartment when my house sale fell through. Did them only because it was a meal that I did not have to pay for but by the end of the year, and after the house was finally sold, I decided no more 5 Guys for me. I think their burgers ore not very good and I like my fries crispy. I'd much rather do a Freddy's.

5 guys only uses fresh ground beef and supposedly their buns are much healthier( I don't remember where I saw this). The shops for 5guys covers the full cost of the meal and shakes, when they're part of the shop, with a few bucks profit. I wouldn't go out of my way for them but it's doable for a meal. And they are much healthier than mickey's and BK and Wendys.
With that said I'd rather have a shake shack burger and fries. I haven't been able to find shops for them yet.

It's just not worth it for me. I would much rather conduct a shop for Buffalo Wild Wings. A couple beers and an appetizer while enjoying a game with a decent reimbursement and fee works for me.

Here's an interesting article that says "a Five Guys Hamburger sans toppings is 700 calories, considerably more than a Big Mac’s 540 calories or a Quarter Pounder’s 410 calories with everything. A Five Guys Bacon Cheeseburger, meanwhile, has 920 calories and 30 grams of saturated fat — one-and-a-half days’ worth — without toppings. That’s more calories than two Quarter Pounders."

I agree that Shake Shack makes a better burger than Five Guys. I mystery shop Shake Shack monthly, although there are local burger places here that are head and shoulders over Shake Shack. I won't do Shake Shack on my own dime. They have to pay me.

I like them enough to shop them. To me, and I think a lot of people, we weight the likeness based on the price. Is it worth $12 for a meal? Heck no.
But if You put the various chains top burgers on a counter, and let me try them all with no costs involved, 5 Guys would be near the top of my list.
I know it's almost considered blasphemy to some people for me to say this, but I'll take 5 Guys any day over In 'N Out.

Love 5 Guys. The burgers are cooked well and the toppings are always fresh. I never worry about cleanliness when taking my family to eat there. I like it is all out in the open. As for price, a regular or large order of fries will feed a family of four, and the burgers by themselves are the same price as a "Grande Mac" at Mickey D''s but much more flavorful and fresh. I love the topping choices, and have mine down. Lettuce, tomato, pickles, raw onion, extra grilled jalapenos, mustard and hot sauce. Soooo good. Usually getting water when not shopping, so the family burger night out is not a big expense. 5 Guys rock!

Dry burgers? Something tells me you are not adding mayo, pickles, tomatoes, mushrooms, and caramelized onions.

I wouldnt go if not for the shops. To expensive. But always excellent.

Burgers should not be dry and should not rely on condiments to make them less so. If the meat doesn't taste good sans all the add ons, I'm not interested.

five guys burgers suck, their beef and veggie burgers. I remember when I ate beef, I used to get their turkey burgers instead, such a shame most locations don't serve turkey burgers. Their veggie burger sucks too. I do enjoy their grilled cheese sandwich, someone here recommended added tomato and lettuce. It tasted a 1000% better. Now I'll do a five guy shop only if I get a good bonus. I'd never pay to eat there on my own. I'd rather go to fuddruckers.

Well-done burgers are not juicy. I like medium-rare burgers, against the law at Five Guys. If there's no pink in the patty, there's no juice. Grease does not count. I do like their veggie sandwiches, bunless, in a bowl. (Have never heard of veggie burgers at 5G). Their fries are over-priced, regardless of how many extra are in the bag. I can get a generous portion of truffle fries, absolutely delicious, elsewhere, for the same price as 5G boardwalk style fries.

I would not eat at 5G on my own dime.

My town has become the burger capital with new burger places opening up right and left. We have an amazing place called "Rustic burger" that puts them all to shame (not shopped) I have not eaten at 5 guys although we have one in the mall. McD still has the best fries, except above have a garlic fry to die for....definitely will pay for that myself. I also like Red Robin and for 7$ and up, you get a good burger, and all the fries you want, and it's shopped, + buy one, get one free on their reward program.

I don't like their burgers because the bottom bun falls apart. That is a big Burger No No for me.

I haven't tried Sonic yet but there is a shop available that reimburses $7.8 for a meal (burger, drink, side) and $5 fee. This isn't worth it !

Irene, how does Rustic Burger compare to In-N-Out?

In-N-Out spoiled me for LIFE! Even Hamburger Hamlet's $100 Burger couldn't beat them.

@honny...The best I've ever had, they grind their own meat, using the best. You can order it medium rare, with FF burgers it's well only, Inn@Out can't hold a candle, but still love the company. I'd love to send a picture. Rustic.has everyone talking, their fries are the bomb.
Nowhere near FF, definitely raised the game. I'm in a Foodie group here with chefs and restaurant owners
that praise them. No one knows what I do, I've found some little gems of family owned places here, lotta fun,
