What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Well I have cooked lots of other kinds of beans and frozen them. The broth is just the same as before I froze it. The "goo" in canned bean is actually called aquafaba and can be used for a replacement for whipped cream or egg whites. It whips up light and fluffy with no beany taste at all. I have used it in place of eggs in cakes and then I made the frosting with it. It's amazing. If you google aquafaba you will find recipes and a lot of information. It's used by vegans and by fitness types who want to avoid dairy.

I love learning new things, thank you for the info! I had no idea. It looks gross. But so do egg whites, LOL! I certainly won't be using it as a replacement for whipped cream, though. Are you vegan?
I avoid dairy (lactose intolerant) and use Almond or Coconut milk, Dannon just came out with a non-dairy yogurt which I enjoy...I make smoothies with berries, banana and sveia. Many choices out there with stores
like Sprouts,Trader Joe and Whole Foods.

Why Almond or Coconut milk? I use Lactose Free milk. Tastes like real milk and I can still poop!

I think it creamier and got used to it.... my poop is fine, thanks...smiling smiley nuts are healthier than cow milk.

HA! I was talking about my poop. I get stopped up when I drink real milk.

Healthier is very debatable. Less calories yes, healthier not necessarily.

I prefer the taste of almond milk. It's not "fake milk" it's its own product and shouldn't be compared to regular milk, just the same way black bean burgers really shouldn't be compared with hamburgers, or motorcycles shouldn't be compared with cars. They are different but sometimes once you drive a motorcycle you really like it.

I make smoothies with almond milk and bananas and berries too, but I don't add sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners are really really bad for you.

I never said it was fake milk. That was my question. Many people drink Almond, Soy, Coconut milk, etc for many different reasons. When someone states it's because they are lactose intolerant it is usually because they are lactose intolerant, not because they like the taste of it better. Otherwise they would state "I like it better" instead of "I drink it because I'm lactose intolerant." But whatever.

Sorry bg I misunderstood your comment. Anyway, drink all the lactose free milk you want. I don't care. I"m not trying to convert you.

My SIL is dairy free because she feels sorry for the cows. Most dairy farms are not nice to the cows and in general they live a pretty miserable existence. Also, did you know that they allow a certain amount of pus (from sore udders from overmilking) by law in the milk? That's disgusting. I don't really like milk, but I love cream and I try to use organic from grass-fed, free range cows (hopefully happy cows) whenever possible. I use cream pretty frequently in my homemade mac and cheese and some pasta dishes. And I really love, love, love cheese. When go to my brother's house his wife has fake cheese and it's weird. I have had some of the dairy free yogurts and I really like them, but I know that they have a TON of sugar in them and probably some other weird emulsifiers that aren't good for you.
Y'all have inspired me to contemplate the meaning of dairy in the world... hmmmm.... recently, I read that real cheese contains an enzyme that makes it more compatible with humans than fake cheese. I should find out if this is real news. In fact, that is what I will do. That is what I am doing today besides shopping.

Shop-et-al, I know that cheese is easier to digest and assimilate nutrients from for humans than milk is. I love cheese so much, but knowing how they make it is gross too, LOL. Look up chymosin. Come back with some info for us when you get done.
You will eat nothing if you find out how it's made. It's all gross. I just eat what tastes good and don't worry about it.

Nuts are fiber have more nutrients, plus Anti-oxidents, good for the brain....I'm so much smarter since drinking my almond milk, haven't you noticed.....haha I never liked the taste of milk, but do miss my ice creme.....I'll answer someone above saying Almond milk has more sugar, they now have 7 grams of sugar, which is lower than milk and i add spevia (the healthier alternative to sugar). Nutrionist's recommend the nut milks, to each his own, I wouldn't go back if i could, love the creamy taste and know it' healthier by the way I feel. Fiber BG, it's all about the fiber.....try it and make your decision.

I find stevia fairly disgusting. It tastes too much like artificial sweetener. I never substitute for a natural ingredient, I just eat less of it.

More fiber yes but still overall not as healthy.

I mean I totally get if people drink Almond milk (or soy, or coconut, or whatever) because they like the taste better, want the fewer calories, are concerned about how cows are treated, or any other reason, but "it's healthier" simply isn't true.

I found it because I was lactose intolerant (Dr's order) then really liked it.. Stevia is a natural subsitude for sweetner's, answering CoffeeQueen....over and out!

Yeah, I don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners, either.

This morning I went to the dentist and had a crown put in. It was my fourth visit for this molar that I broke back in March. The first visit they took x-rays and put in a temporary crown. I guess they forgot to take the impression? I dunno, because on the next visit they made some sort of excuse about the previous visit being my first visit so they didn't take the impression...at any rate on that second visit they couldn't get the temp crown off and I felt pain while they were trying, so 4 shots of Novacaine later they got the tooth off, took the impression, and built the new temp crown. Three weeks later I went back, and again, they had to cut off the temp crown because it wouldn't budge (and 4 shots of Novacaine because I have a low pain threshold). Well, they went to put the new crown on and it didn't fit, somehow the lab messed it up I guess. So, they took new impressions, built a new temp crown for me, and off I go. Today I went and I was dreading it, afraid that something was going to go wrong besides the obvious pain and discomfort of Novacaine and having my jaw wrenched open for an hour while they were doing their thing. Thank God it fit. They wanted to go ahead and schedule me for a cleaning in a few weeks and I said, "Nah, I'll come back in a couple of months for that." So today I have been a complete whiny bum just sitting around watching TV, checking emails, posting in the forum, and napping...tomorrow back to work again.
I was just thinking about "The Bucket List" and the monkeys that eat coffee beans...LOL.
Yikes, Jas. That is one hell of a dental horror story. I hope you feel better tomorrow!

JAS I began with the cheese thing and found a bit about human digestives and cheese. Then, I remembered what happened before I read the recent food posts. I was informed that I am a fuss-budget and I worry too much. Weeeelllll---Hmmph. ! So, from cheese to chalk and cheese to other matters, I made my way through food, recipes, ag, philosophy, and a breeze-filled quiet time on the clean porch. Eventually, I ended up with a personally relevant message from... yeah... The Message. Big thanks to Eugene Peterson.

Matthew 6:25-34The Message (MSG)

25-26 “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.

27-29 “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

30-33 “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

34 “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

Thanks CQ. I do feel better so far. My new tooth looks so natural and feels like part of the family, lol.
Today is infinitely more hum-drum. Work, clean house, work at other job, sign contracts for other job change-up, cook, eat, sleep. I hope I can stay awake during all the excitement. grinning smiley
