I'll have to remember that next time I tackle the project. Other than the crust my 'pizza' was great...a thick layer of homemade refried beans, topped with a quick green tomato salsa and a layer of cheddar. Served it with salsa and guac.

Early morning job. It is so early that some people call it a night job. That is an insight. Night shift stats partially describe me. From now on, I live like a night-shift worker, in terms of sleep and life schedule. This may be a great change for me.

Trying to find a notary public near me. So far all of the places listed when I do a search turn out to have discontinued having anyone on site who is a notary. Back in the day, every bank branch used to have at least on employee who was a notary.

I came downstairs this morning to find out that my computer wouldn't turn on. Even after I got all the dust out of the tower :-( So, I'll be taking it to our computer guru friend for repair. And grumbling the whole time I have to do an ACL report on my laptop this afternoon, because the designers put the 'End' key where my fingers think the "Shift" key should be and doing all that narrative is not going to be fun.

Taking my son to the doctor this morning. He spiked a fever over the weekend and then had 3 seizures. We took him to the hospital and he seems (mostly) back to normal but we've got a follow up appointment with his regular pediatrician today.
I was going to try to pick up a couple shops this week but I'm going to spend the week with my son. He needs his mommy right now.

I thought I was done having to make decisions but I forgot about a backsplash. Back to Lowe's tonight. I hope I can find something pretty that isn't too expensive. Meanwhile I'll just listen to the saws and hammers.
There is not such thing as a backsplash that is pretty and not too expensive. In my old kitchen I opted for a very low rise at the back of the countertops and no backsplash. I had no upper cabinets and the lower cabinets I had built were very clean and modern looking and it really fit them well.
Have I mentioned before that I miss my kitchen. Along with it's 13' island.

Your kitchen sounds great. I love modern but it doesn't fit this house very well. I found a plain sleek subway tile in taupe which should set off the white cabinets and countertop really nicely. They are only 49 cents each. Labor will be a lot though.

It wasn't as crazy as it sounds. Ok. It was. It was an old house from the 80s that had a small kitchen with a bar between it and the similarly small dining area. I gutted all of it including the walls between them and the living room. Ended up with a big space for the living room and a smaller but still large space for the kitchen with nothing but a fireplace between the two. Stuck a huge island all the way down the kitchen.

I am having instant coffee. Yes. Instant. I love it. It requires no parts, pieces, or doodads. It fits neatly into my miniscule kitchen. The aroma is better than expensive coffee. There are no grounds. I never have to clean up after errant grounds! I love it so much that I will never have expensive coffee gadgets again!
It is safe to resume reading now.
I am rounding up stray stuff to donate on my way to the library. There, I will select more new-to-me authors. This is a good and quiet day...

I am fussy about my coffee, using a French press makes it strong and real.....I use Sprouts expresso, sometimes chocolate expresso (so good), starts off the day if I'm home in the morning, better than any coffee house. French do everything better, and win on this one. I was looking at that 250.00 Nespresso coffee maker, but don't want to spend that money. Today doing a small mobil phone, going to Kohl's for new towels, and figuring out what's for dinner, which may take hours, unless I settle for a bacon turkeyburger

Just put a loaf of cranberry nut bread into the oven. Making that was a break from reports. Also found which bank branch will have a notary on duty tomorrow and discovered that my favorite DR has left the group practice. However, one of my favorites is still there. Tried, but failed, to discover where "Dr. Holly" has gone, but I wish her well!

I've only had to change doctors a couple of times, but the process is always traumatic. Glad there's one within the same group that you can switch to.

I went to a semimonthly food truck festival with my book club. I got a crab quesadilla to take home, and I ate baked beans, pulled pork and macaroni & cheese in a chinese take out box. #FatandHappy!

Was it real crab? Oh yeah, nvmnd you live in crab country. Sigh. I'm envious. I remember growing up in Florida and we used to go crabbing and then have crab boils. I can make a pretty mean crabcake, too. I can do without the baked beans...for some reason I never liked them that much. I LOVE mac n cheese, but usually only my own. How was the food truck's version?

The mac & cheese was the top layer. I saw a goldfish cracker, so I had my doubts. I forgot about the cracker after the first taste. It was rich and creamy, like mine.
The next layer was the pulled pork. I forgot that BBQ pulled pork is different from carnitas! It was so good and so rich, I couldn't finish it. I tried, but I left a big chunk.
The bottom layer of the box was the baked beans. They were sweet. I ate that entire layer.

Probably, but I am sure that you would love mine. I use several kinds of cheese (usually Gruyere, Vermont Sharp Cheddar, and Fontina). I melt it in a combination of heavy cream and milk, pour it over the cooked macaroni in a baking dish, and then top it with Panko, grated Parm, and BACON before baking it.

Mine uses Gruyere, Cheddar, Fontina, and Asiago. The sauce has some other ingredients as well and it has the panko and parm on top but no bacon. Well. At least it hasn't had bacon in the past...........

Lol! Now I am reminiscing about homemade macaroni and cheese that was prepared in a large kitchen and eaten at a large built-in table which centered the large open room. That mid-century house may have been built before bgriff was born...

Griff, I think mashed roasted garlic would be a nice addition to the cheese sauce, don't you?
I am sitting here on my laptop listening to the Spanish speaking radio station that Octavio prefers (he's the drywall guy). I miss listening to Spanish so it's nice even though I don't understand any of it. I'm playing a browser game on facebook in another tab and since I'm about to finish my coffee I'm wondering what else I can get up to. It's impossible to clean with all the stuff everywhere that belongs in the kitchen and bathroom and I have to stay here to monitor the workers and doors and dogs.

Catch up on errands day, today. Taking the dogs to the vet, then shopping for odds and ends at WalMart and groceries at Kroger, then more odds and ends at Lowe's. Pulls and cabinet knobs, paint for my vintage island and a shoe storage unit for inside the back door, as I have a little cubby there that I want to be a mini-mud room. Then home and I'll either mow today or tomorrow.
Velveeta actually makes a good binder when using other cheese that doesn't blend and melt well. Anyway you look at it, all of our recipes are heart stoppers.
