What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Sunday pot roast! I made one only it had chicken breasts instead of beef. So delicious. Apple Crisp for dessert with Vanilla ice cream.

I bought my Mom one of those rice(?) filled things. Although i never read what it was filled with, it worked well. Until Mom added a digit while heating it up. Burned and she threw it out. Corded? Never used one but would imagine it to be a PITA due to the cord.

@Mum wrote:

@Shop-et-al I got gel pads (various sizes and shapes) from Amazon. The problem with them is you have to heat them in increments of 15 secs or they pop. The sock filled with rice eventually starts smelling and then you need to replace it. I had an incident when the sock got overheated, had a hole and the rice got straight into my eyes. The only thing that works for me is the heat pad with a cord. I can put it on my pillow, lie down or sit up and it swtiches off even when I fall asleep on that after some time. Works for a bad migraine, neck pain coupled with an Excedrin.

I would so want something invented like you said, though!
Years ago, someone treated me with a five or ten ? pound bag of rice. They said it could be reheated and reused. The rice bag covered much of my back. The warm weight felt wonderful and relaxed me for a serious back massage. Aaaaahhhhhhh... ooooooohhhhhhh...... mmmmmmmm.......

I had a trailblazing great aunt. She started a successful beauty/barber shop in the 50’s. Owned it until she sold it when she was 70-something. One unforgettable memory was her wearing pantyhose partially stuffed with warmed rice, tied around her neck. Kind of like a balloon tied into a shape that comforted her aching spots.
@Madetoshop. Corded works best for me coz with the kind of headaches I get, I can't get out of bed anyway. I imagine it would be hassle for someone who wants to work while dealing with pain.
Did dinner prep before leaving for today's shops. Will get some steps walking back and forth from Shop #2 to Shop #3. While I'm gone Hubby will quarterback a visit from plumber re overflowing air conditioner drain in laundry room.

Have decided: rice in sock will be best for talking head job. At home, I can use the electric neck draping pad. I can place myself near an outlet and be mindful of the cord. At work, I am focused on tasks and would need an extension cord. So today I will order a draping heating pad and then get back to the seemingly endless projects. I accomplished a huge amount of work yesterday and am eager to clean up a few little messes today. Also need to think of any little groceries or things that I should get in advance of the first storm of this season. Happy First Snow to all who celebrate or at least accept it. grinning smiley

Half day physically at work and half day home. I did not like this. I am exhausted. Chipotle tonight!
I made chop suey for dinner. I didn't have enough vodka sause from Aldi's, so I supplemented with food bank tomato sauce. That was not a good idea. I later found a bottle of vodka sauce in the pantry.

Working tonight instead of on Saturday. Saturday is home football game day/need to show up at 8 a.m. in order to get a close enough space. Really. I checked for gigs, movies, and anything at all that would make it seem almost reasonable to park and then do errands before work begins. That was a bust. But I tried. Walking to/from car that is parked at the edges of town or practically in the next town is not so bad at the currently predicted temperatures. But there is no guarantee that it will not be snowing, blowing, icy, or otherwise doing its darnedest to flatten and silence me before talking head job. I need all the help I can get just to speak enough to get through a shift. Yes, I know I need a different job, more bonused gigs, and/or money to fall from the sky and land in my lap. Until then, I can focus on things I like. I like the cooler temperatures, piled-on blankets, and the possibility of soups and stews for the season. I like that season 4 of Agatha Raisin is in production, or in queue to reach Acorn TV, or something. I like sweaters and layering clothes.

A Zoom meeting with our financial person. She and Hubby will talk end of year tax planning. I will pretend I understand what they're talking about.

I signed up for a 30 day trial on Hulu so I could binge watch Killing Eve.

SO WORTH IT to see this series. I'm anxiously awaiting Season 4, supposed to be released in 2022.
Reorganizing late October to accommodate a very lucrative 3 night route and still be home for Halloween. I am using one of my two free Marriott hotel nights, one free Choice hotels night and have one paying overnight hotel shop on this route. The route is very scenic; the fees are above average and the daily miles are quite low, since I do not have to double back to home until the 4th day. Oh yes, and just prior to departing for this route, I will have a paid fueling shop.

With all the stories of supply chain woes impacting the holidays this year I've decided to start shopping early. Today Hubby and I will go to an independent toy store (or two, if necessary) and pick out gifts for the grandchildren. Next week they will get mailed to California on shops. I will use my own name as recipient and ask the kids to store them until I arrive in mid-November to wrap.

Workout, nap, and start the first book in Miranda James' Cat in the Stacks series. Diesel, the Maine Coon and main character (well, the cat probably thinks of himself as the star of the show) is one of those well anthropomorphized critters that wins our little hearts from their first utterance. This one chirps rather than mewls or howls, to communicate with us. The author also has other series. It will be fun to find as many of those books as possible.

Ran into DH and the crew at a commuter hub that connects to a sports arena. All dressed in their regalia. I was so excited when I heard "Mom!!!!!." Hugs and kisses.
Camera crews, total chaos. They just got home and devoured dinner.
Scheduling flu vaccination for myself and my non-driving neighbor and getting us both to CVS for those. Then grocery store nearby.

"The aim [of education] must be the training of independently acting and thinking individuals." (Albert Einstein) I
know that. Why doesn't the US education system know that?! This quotation was in 'Famous Daily' and it helps to answer, or perhaps it feeds into, my perpetual question: What the unprintable are they teaching?!

Meanwhile, today is for workout, laundry, and afternoon shift. Tomorrow is for immersion in projects & house tasks. (I have nearly conquered the seemingly endless projects and tasks. All I need to do between now and victory is set up little work stations here and there. I can then match tasks to time and energy and be incalculably more productive than I have been during the last few years.) *shop-et-al sallies forth to conquer bits and pieces of the seemingly endless projects & tasks, beginning with laundry*

My job has kept me traveling the last couple of months so I haven't been around much. I'm back now and should be able to just work in my office for at least the next 2 months. I hope. I'm starting to do my Christmas shopping early and hoping there will be things available for my gifts. I'm seeing a lot of things out of stock with the notation "out of stock and we don't know when or if it will be back in stock." I haven't done very much mystery shopping but hopefully will find a few food shops to do. I need quick lunches especially since I'm back working at the office. I noticed happily that Panda is back but haven't done it yet for the new MSC. Sonic is my go-to quick lunch - I need the big drink to take back to work since the water fountains and ice machines are still not in service. I was looking over my records over the years and so many places that used to be shopped and are not any more. Wonder if they will come back.
Hah. The heaviest job of the day is done. (I schlepped a large, heavy bin filled with stuff that needs to be sorted from point a to point b.) Now, I get to sit here, in this back-friendly chair, for awhile until my back forgives me and is ready for more.

I set the big plants outside for a drink. I finished watching Killing Eve on Hulu. I have a few more shows I want to watch before the 30 day trial is over.

I'm craving pasta for dinner.

I finished the book series and was floored! I wanted to watch the TV series again since I missed some episodes.

I am looking forward to Season 4 next year. The book ended nicely. Season 3, not so much.

Groceries (not a shop) and whatever else fits into the day. There is a new 'Signed, Sealed, and Delivered' movie and I want to watch that tonight. In a perfect world, the back will give me lots of work and be happy in the other comfy chair and watching that movie.

Our parish has a large Hispanic community. Today they're celebrating El Señor de Los Milagros (The Lord of the Miracles), which is a huge deal in Peru-and new to me. Hubby and I will be going to the Mass and staying for food afterwards.

Clean, unclutter and organize the whole house.
Figure out how to arrange a coffee/tea station for guests on Wednesday.
Go through all these ripe tomatoes and deal with them. Get most of the beets out of garden and deal with them.
I am pleased because yesterday, some of everything on the task list was completed. The anticipated fun thing did not materialize. There was no new 'Signed, Sealed, and Delivered' and I do not know what happened. Had I been watching something older on YouTube and saw did I see an old teaser for this? Do I have the wrong version of Hallmark on my TV? No matter. As long as I do laundry, pay off two credit cards, finish a book, and take a nap before work, it will be enough and all will be well in my world.

Our new microwave is being installed! I can't wait to have a hot breakfast tomorrow that I don't have to cook on the stove.

Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product. Eleanor Roosevelt
You would love (or be shocked by) our place. We have a microwave on the counter across from the stove. Ours is one of the apartments that does not have the built-in microwave. Just now, the stove top is a storage place for food because we cannot find a free day for rearranging the built-in and free-standing, adapted piece of furniture that are our pantries. We can fit it all in there, when we have the time...

Meanwhile, enjoy your new microwave! What is your fave microwave breakfast, if I may ask? smiling smiley
