What are you doing today? (besides shopping)
We've got this upright freezer that we've had for 32 years. It was never a self-defrost, so that's something I've got to do about once a year. Well....I decided that today was the day. So after supper, I boiled 4 pans of water, removed all the stuff from the freezer and placed them in two large cooler chests, unplugged the freezer, and then put the pans in the freezer to begin the thaw. I always place towels along the floor to absorb any drips that get through when I open the door to take out the pans and re-heat the water. While the water is re-heating, I chip off whatever ice has melted, and put new towels in the bottom, and place towels on the lower two racks after they have thawed. Then, repeat with the pans of boiling water. After three times of this, the top rack finally thawed out really well, and I was able to chip all the ice out. Then...dry all the racks and plug it in and wait for about an hour till it's cold again. Then, replace the food back into the freezer from the two ice chests. All in all...it took about 3 hours from start to finish. Then I washed all the towels. Glad this task only comes up once a year!!
I need to do my freezer too. But it is stuffed full! Going to wait until it's well below freezing outside.

2 loads of laundry, making split pea soup with ham for tomorrow; finishing up a Curinos bank shop report; kitchen and powder room clean up. Planning lots of hausfrau stuff for the weekend, plus a quick trip to CVS to get a high dose flu shot.

Phew. Yesterday, I finished the last remaining in-house shredding. (We ran out of time/space and sent the rest back to storage where it awaits a new year and another season.) I only incurred some more than a dozen leg bashes. I stopped counting at twelve, grinned, and am bearing it because I just had to finish this and get the timing right. Each bin/bag of to-be shredded stuff can be emptied within 3-4 hours, or one half day. Will I want to do that every day consecutively? Nah. I just know that the minimum twenty or so half days can safely be spread across a couple of future months without unduly disrupting my gawping and thrills at signs and happenings of late Spring and Summer. Today is a pared down version of the hoped-for uber productivity. We are just setting up the next set of tasks which I can begin on Saturday.

I remember doing that at my old house! Eventually the electric company incentivized us to buy a new Energy Star rated freezer, which was also self-defrosting. When we moved to the condo there wasn't room for it so we sold it to the buyers.

For years, my mom did the same thing. The hair dryer of that time was pretty nifty. It had its own stand and only needed to be aimed while the cord was kept out of the path of any potential escapee water.
I wonder if this old style of refrigerator, fussy as it is, has some monetary value in antique world.

My sprained ankle is almost healed, but the area around the bony protrusion on the outside is still quite puffy. Wearing anything but a sandal is painful, and soon the weather will be turning too cold for sandals.

If you do not mind being nerdy and/or unfashionable, and before it snows: you might try wearing socks and sandals or socks and flip-flops. You will not win any fashion prizes! But your feet will be warmer. When at home, you could wear socks in your slippers. When you must have one larger shoe, buy a pair of larger shoes and get something for the too-large shoe so that your uninjured foot will not slide around and become a liability. Stuff the toe of the shoe. Get the sticky heel inserts (and use them in other parts of the shoe, too, as needed.) A hook and loop closure sometimes allows you to fit a shoe firmly; this might help your uninjured foot. There are many other options.....

Houseguests for 2 days. Then new houseguests for the next 3 days. While we love their company, it's so much work and disruption. I have taken vacation time since Wednesday My girls are doing the touristy things with them, DH and I try to be available but I am too busy. Today, they all went out with Mom for the day and left me in peace to do laundry and clean. I still have to prep an easy meal for them as they are always hungry, LOL. Mom's milestone birthday party is tomorrow. While she is surprised everyone is here for her birthday, she has no idea about her party. She will willingly go with DD's anywhere. We are so very excited!

Had the other wine. More like the bawling of a stuck pig. I was getting onto my treatment bed, banged a leg twice, and then banged a heel on the small chair that I had conveniently (or not) placed nearby for another task. But all is well. I hope. Hubby assured me that he does not need me to help with any of the usual house tasks and I should do as much of my project work as possible, but only if I feel like doing it. I really need to do some of it daily because inspection will occur in a few weeks. And, I want the work to flow so that all projects will be completed by Thanksgiving. Wish me luck!

Baked homemade doggie treats to take to my nephew's dog, Bowie, this weekend. Used Halloween cookie cutters and decorated with a pup friendly icing. Woof woof !

On the way home from conference attended friend's book launch party. So glad to be home sitting on my bed, watching Hudson and Rex while I sort books to move out of bedroom. Moving everything out before painting, ripping out carpet, etc.

According to research (as per the news blurb), we should read every day. Reading provides some protection against Alzheimer's and other dementias. Reading is one of the major activities I planned for my official retirement, and I am keeping many of the books I obtained for this purpose. Others went away because they were not re-readable or had become uninteresting to me. *grins and scurries away to read more of the current book*

I went to Aldi yesterday. Both my freezers are at capacity. Actually, so are my cabinets.

My Mom was so surprised and happy. Birthday Beauty had a wonderful time last night. Food and drink was excellent and the service was outstanding. Another birthday party for a houseguest tomorrow. Party of 11. Catering and getting a Carvel ice cream cake. Today, I was in the kitchen for a good part of the day prepping food and cleaning.
Refreshed and feeling wonderful after the day of rest yesterday. Today is for clearing a cluttered corner, putting away grocery delivery, and reading during the laundry loads.

Errands, then walk. It turned cold overnight, so turned the furnace on and discovered I am NOT ready for winter weather :-)
Both Hubby and I had colds last week. Both of us are fine except for a residual hacking cough. For that reason he chose to skip his evening dinner/meeting. I was looking forward to a night out. I'm trying to decide if I want to leave the house and get some dessert for myself. Diet says 'no', but stomach disagrees.

Chiropractor appointment to find out why my ankle is still hurting. Left with an adjustment, a diagnosis of bursitis, and suggestions to make issue better. Did some walking in between each post office shop, then finished off steps with Hubby when I got home.

I was playing on my phone and it suddenly rebooted. It got stuck in a weird loop for over an hour. It's back to normal after I did an alternative reset. I pick up Pepper tomorrow at 10am!

Was off-line most of the day. Think this why we were productive and did two days of work in one day. Tomorrow is for improved casserole, putting away dry laundry, and sorting stuff. At end of day, the once cluttered corner will be organized and I can move on to the next projects. We both needed one extra day for everything up to this point, but this and the next two projects will be finished on time. Huzzah!
