Funeral for a friend who could have been 97 next week.
It's so frickin hot here water bottles were handed out at the gravesite.
Friend was born 1927 in Poland. She was indeed a Holocaust Survivor passing her young teen years in a Nazi forced labor camp. After war she went to a Displaced Person Camp where she met her husband until they, with 3 year old daughter, were sponsored to come to America where they lived for the past 75 years. Friend went into public schools to educate students about the Holocaust. This was important to her so I'm passing along a summery of her experience.

Finished the daily task list. Settling into another good book. This one weaves together a few strands, including anti-arrogance (for want of a better word).

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.
4.5 hour drive back from a business trip. NOT fun. At least I didn't have to work today. Unpacked, did laundry, spot cleaned the kitchen, went to Trader Joe's, made dinner, hugged my family and watched the season finale of Top Chef.

Picked up Mom in the AM. Brutal heat so she is staying with us for the week. Poolside, but I cannot stay still. Scrubbed area rugs, hampers and bedroom trash bins The sun knocks me out.
Finished task list early, played the island game, and am just ten pages from the end of a good book.

Hockey frenzy here. My Mom showed me how to sew envelope pillow covers. She made us a beautiful one for our huge sofa pillow. I am loving it! Easy!

Cut yourself some slack, Okie. Stuff happens. Tackle a little bit of it at a time. It took more than a day to get that way, and it'll take more than a day to clear it out. Progress comes in big and little steps; take a baby step each day and be proud of what you accomplished.@Okie wrote:

Anyways, extreme to the point where it is hard to walk. And the main family room looks like a storage unit with junk on top of junk, where this continues on for multiple layers. Ever since COVID and WFH, I've gotten too comfortable and have blurred the lines between work and home.
My dad was a hoarder. Not "poop in a bucket because you can't get to the bathroom" hoarding, but he was a junk keeper for sure. He had a very strong sense of misplaced sentimentality. When we sold the family home, we were cleaning it out and discovered a pile of empty sliced cheese wrappers on the top shelf of a china cabinet in the dining room. We had no idea why he kept them, and by that time, he was in a care facility for dementia patients, so we couldn't ask him. I figure one of us kids ate the cheese on a sandwich, and he kept the wrapper because we'd used it.
Daddy was also mentally ill, so...there's no telling.

Potatoes are recovering from last weeks frost. Some tomatoes survived. A few cucumbers survived.

Frost in late June when we've been having heat records across the US? maybe you are outside the US?

eye exam
car inspection
5 shops
lunch with sister - she works at an elementary school and today was their last day and they let out early...we ate outside on a supremely beautiful day, breezy, sunny, dry...70s.
pasta and salads..
hugged her goodbye as she leaves for a 3 week trip to support her hubby who's a professional bowler on tour.
busy day, just finished my reports...relaxing

Had a nice lazy Saturday and took a very long afternoon nap. Embarrassed to say how long I slept but I guess if I slept that long it meant I needed it. ????
Went to Six Flags Water Park. And now waiting for the pizza my dear husband is making for us. Also enjoying Your Honor on Netflix. Surprised with the twists and turns in every episode.
Made the best veggie dish. Perfect for me, not so for hubby. He felt the onions were too strong. I said they were better than any sinus remedy known to humankind. I can breathe again...

Maybe the compromise is to caramelize the onions a bit longer and or use red onions which I find milder? :>}
Oh also the best for your sinuses for me is wasabi. I love wasabi egg salad and use it on other things too.
Properly diagnosed engine misfire in our truck today. Now at over 332K miles, the truck suddenly ran rough and the check engine light came on. Luckily I was about 4 miles from home. Being a DIY person, I also have a bidirectional scanner to aid in diagnosis. The scanner indicated which cylinder that had a history of a misfire. Since I keep one spare ignition coil and a set of spark plugs in the garage, I performed a replacement of the ignition coil and plug within about 20 minutes. The engine runs smooth again.
Parts totaled about $60. If I had this work performed at a local shop it would have cost at about $350 and I'd waste time waiting for scheduling and repairs.
I don't know how ordinary people get along in life without diagnostic skills. I get to keep almost $300 in my brokerage account which gained about 11% so far this year. Maximize time utilization and minimize spending.
