What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Driving & waiting while Hubby has cataract surgery, and another appointment. Over 6 K towards my 100 in June.

Sad day in phone world. Had to delete June's journey & other apps in order to mollycoddle the old phone-- in hopes that it will last long enough to transfer the phone number. Some apps suck the life force right out if this old phone! Just the phone number is the needed miracle here. But the good news? If I play again, it will be better in terms of strategizing, acquisitions management and island beautification.

Running out of smartphone space...I was almost there as updates and apps grew in size with time.

That's why I selected my latest smartphone with 512GB of space. Sure, my Google Pixel 8 Pro cost a bit more when released, but the long update period, added space, and watch they threw in made it a better deal for many years. Especially since I haven't broken a smartphone yet. (fingers crossed)

That is sensible, m1! I could only afford a bit (haha) more storage than I currently have and to upgrade to 5G and better battery life. Was there a blurb about 7G somewhere? Really must have some clever soul create the instantaneously fact-checking app which would protect us from the apparent juggernaut of mis- and disinformation...

Substitute teaching for the pm. Sounds like a mixed up day, as does tomorrow!
I'm going to try really hard not to work next week!

Traveling to support the organization here in my state that works for the rights of independent voters. (We are a fully closed primary state).
We have a primary next week.
Other than that? errands and getting ready for weekend visitors...yippee, barbecue and outdoor concert
Last day of school for me. I'm determined this will be the last day.
Grade one. Promises to be a Mish Mash of stuff going on.

It is National T-shirt Day.

Life is grand! I reflect back on a note placed in a report card by my first teacher; "...a bright and happy child..."

After all that education, we ended our careers early a few years ago. Expenses are now low. For example, our truck will cross 350K miles any day now and a fund has been set aside for it's eventual replacement. In the meantime, it gets routine maintenance. Other vehicles sit in storage, used rarely. Health has been good so far aside from typical aging. Thankfully, knees and back are holding up well. Investments are following our plan and barely need to be touched except for IRA withdrawals and ROTH conversions. Plans for travel continue. There is always a project around the house to work on. A few mystery shops along the way.

Sadly there have been people along the way who got absorbed by substance abuse. Or mental health issues. Or people who developed spendthrift ways and racked up debt. There's been no success in helping people with said issues. At best it just delays the inevitable. Once a person "adopts" one of these life paths, a "philosophy" that just doesn't work, their "policy" is a dead end. Over the years, it's the saddest thing to witness or hear. We prefer rules, guidelines, order, and routines that have been proven to work.

In all, for us, early retirement has been very successful. Enjoying the journey. With gratitude. I hope you all are too and figured out your own path. Still "bright and happy." smiling smiley
Bright and Happy here. Hubby retired at 59, I quit full-time teaching and started subbing at 51. The right decision as we don't desire to travel anymore.

Twenty years later, he's living his childhood dream playing hockey 5 days a week, 9 months a year.
I have my perfect work/life balance. Our investments do well. Mystery shopping mainly puts gas in my car occasionally, and a few groceries in my pantry, if I'm right there and I feel like it.

Al right for a Canadian socialist. smiling smiley

First full day of summer vacation! My house is a shambles. It's raining, thankfully. Need to whip this house into shape.

First, while the servant is working (washing machine), I am going to attempt to seriously purge my school materials. I rarely veer off what's already in the classroom.

It is the National Day of...

Waygu beef
Arizona
The gong
Smoothies
Selfie

It is my typical day of three house tasks, finishing one audiobook (a Walter Martin Bruno book), and reading between one and three percent of a tome about history and other details of mathematics. I calculated a three-week read, based upon my current rate of reading.

May I ask a teacher question? Do you grade on a curve?

A wee celebration day here. The fragile credit score is going up, savings are increasing in tiny increments, and hubby spent money for groceries instead of for scammers. Now, the trick is to continue in this mode... and to celebrate only with non-caloric and no-cost treats... such as a fave workout and an additional savings plan for the Bruno cookbook (real food from fictional Bruno's world)...

Meal prepped last night and this AM. DH power washing and will not let me have a go at it. :-(
For K and grades 1-5? LMAO.
