What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

I love line dried clothing and bedding.
It was a tradition in my rural family. I spent lots of time hanging and harvesting it.

Urban areas tend to frown on it/outlaw it, unfortunately.

Heading to the Apple store in the mall to drop off my phone so it can be repaired.

Then a few stops after that in a part of the city I am not familiar with at all.

It now dawns on me that I won't have my phone with me for navigation.

must come up with a Plan B.

@ Minime. Wonderful that you are feeling better. Tonight, I went with DDs to take those babies for their long walk. They're so funny and have different personalities. This lady in her car yelled out both of Fa bu las' names as she was driving by. WTH, LOL? DDs tell me the entire community knows and loves them. Made my day. Get gardening now.

It’s all too much excitement! When I lived in Waikiki I used to have a gig taking a baby girl bulldog out for a walk on my lunch break. She LOVED people and wouldn’t let one pass her by without doing this thing where she stretched out her arms in front of her down to the ground and looked up at them with these Puss n Boots round eyes that would make people go absolutely gaga over her. I would try to lead her towards the shaded park where there was grass to sit and people watch, but she would always pull towards the top of the strip where she saw people. I would give in once in a while and take her down the strip and boy did she cause a commotion! We had Japanese tourists wanting pics of her, and with her, and she would have everyone stopping in their tracks, holding court. She was a regular celeb about town. I have some great pics of her stealing hearts of people from all over the globe!
Day 1 of Operation Opinion-Free. (I conservatively estimated that I have a surplus of opinions in excess of one trillion and three and can safely coast on these laurels for awhile...)

Let the countdown begin!
5 min. 0 secs. 4:59…, 4:58…, 4:57… J/K! : >
@Minime, I know the stance all too well. She sounds beautiful and I am happy you have great memories. My entire family loves Furry Babies. We have Baby Furry Love's sister with us for the weekend and have to give her up tomorrow. The attachment from all is real. We love to dote on her! She is so sweet and loves to cuddle, unlike her brother, lol.
NBA mania here. What a playoff. Congratulations to the NY Knickerbockers!!!!!!
Fact: a day with some Errol Garner is a fabulous day for me.

Skipping my hike to get things done, save gas, and because it is just such a hard hike and so hard for me to keep up. I intend to go on my own hike and push myself. Hopefully I can get in better condition.

@prince: at least you can still hike. Your own pace is the perfect way.

If only I could say I did get out and hike yesterday. Not joining the group usually means I don't do it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

getting together with family members to make plans for a celebration of life gathering next weekend.
A beloved family member passed away recently and we are considering his wishes for a gathering.
I miss him like crazy.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Worked, did a Costco and Trader Joe's run tonight with DDs #1 and #2. Finished a crocheted market bag to donate to our Church's Bazaar. I was travelling with it to and from work and finished it in 5 days. I love it and need to make more. Beautiful cotton yarn and I added a bracelet around one of the handles. Made a lot of lady friends on the train while working on it, LOL. I received a dozen shoe boxes I ordered from Amazon. Stackable, roomy, with pull out drawer like handles. I'm hoping to get rid of the shoes I no longer wear and neaten up my closet of mismatched shoe box sizes and wondering which box houses what shoe. There's no reason why I need more than a dozen pairs of shoes that I love but rarely wear. Then I'll look at the shoe storage rack by the door that store every day footwear and get rid of more.
Here, the few shoes are on a shoe rack. Assorted 'beauty' products and 'notions' are in the over-door pocketed shoe bag thingy. It works well size-wise and shape-wise. In the past, I was endlessly fascinated by drawer and closet organizers. I imagined zillions of spaces which would accomodate all the types and styles. Now, I measure and repurpose thingies as needed...

Thank you prince, I appreciate those kind words...it was totally unexpected, so life hasn't been the same lately.
I doubt it ever will be again.

This is a subject near to me: shoes.

Long story, but I could give Imelda a run for her money. Well, not all of her money lol.

There. Things are almost back to normal, after nearly a year of incorporating stuff from mil, wondering what to do with puzzling rescued furniture from hubby (which had to be changed and now is the right stuff which has a home here), and accomodating this year's capital improvement projects. Back-back is happy again. No more squawking, screeching, whimpering, roaring, or issuing other back-style pleas for relief. Just the daily stuff. This is good.

I wish I could crochet. That bag sounds like something I would buy MTS. My grandmother could make some incredible stuff that I still marvel at. I’m not sure if it was yarn because the string was very thin, but she made these tightly woven potholders in white with scalloped edges and a rose in the center that was elevated by over an inch. It had an intricate flower petal pattern in a deep red color. There were so many patterns within the base as well. Definitely a lost art. I would never begin to have the patience to learn it.

Had a few of these years ago. Do not know what became of them. Do these ever appear in thrift or consignment stores?

@Minime. Your Grandmama's creations sound beautiful. The material sounds like thin cotton; cotton or a cotton blend is the best yarn to use in my opinion. I started to dabble in appliques but have not yet attempted color changes, raised artistry and intricate patterns within the piece itself. Do you have any to treasure? You can start with learning and mastering the basic stitches and advance from there. There are many Youtube videos that are easy to follow. Start with a skein of cheap acrylic - $3-$4 and a 5MM crochet hook. Your first project can be a headband/earwarmer or scarf (don't know why they call it an ear warmer, lol) You can do it!

I learned a lot from my Mom. She has created unbelievable sweaters that I wear and will keep forever. Re: The market bag - I know it will be a hit. Just wish I had time to make more but I can always complete more for the future. I had enough yarn to make a matching small coin/money purse. I used a silver button to match the bracelet. I wanted to use a pearl but it didn't pair up.
Worked, met my daughters for dinner after work today. DD #3 received the stickers she ordered of our fur babies. Sooooo cute. She told us she is obsessed with them (she is and their chosen Mommy) as if we all didn't know. Having issues with giving up my shoes. Cleaning and laundry tomorrow as well as prepping for Father's day. My Mom is having Mah-jong parties tonight and tomorrow. My neighbor asked if I would be willing to teach children ages 7-10 crochet Saturday mornings on her deck. She has a lot of interest including adults. I told her no, I cannot make the commitment.
Heading to a memorial golf tournament for charity.
My relatives have been holding this event since 2011, so today is the 15th anniversary.
Was reminded of this shoe thread yesterday while in line at the store waiting to pay.
Darling little child was comparing the colors of our sandals.

from shoes to cyborgs... please don't ask how we got here... 'If you look through the history of wearables, I was named the father of wearable computing, or the world's first cyborg. But the definition of wearable computing can be kind of fuzzy itself. Thousands of years ago, in China, people would wear an abacus around their neck- that, in one sense, was a wearable computer.' I wish I had more time to learn to crochet MTS. I can see why you can’t commit to teaching people. That’s a big ask IMO. I love the idea of headbands, change purses, totes and sweaters. Maybe when I’m fully retired. I have some color block mini crochet blankets that were a gift when you adopt a cat. Volunteers made them. They’re small and square to put on a cat tree or bed. I love them.
I only have 1 pot holder and a handkerchief with fine crochet borders that my GM made. My older sister ‘swooped in’ and took a lot of stuff. She actually used them as potholders and ruined some b/c she’s an idiot.
Also - I want some FBL stickers too!!! Too darn cute!

SEA ~ I only shop one consignment store so I’m not sure. This place sometimes gets interesting mid-century housewares once in a while, so it’s possible. The walls of this place have on display several folk art pieces painted mostly on scrap wood. The artist is an older gentleman from a rural area who brings in new stuff periodically. It’s reasonably priced, much of it depicting farm animals, cats of all shapes and sizes, and of course, the American flag and Uncle Sam, I have several pieces in my (she) shed. I had to stop going there b/c the shed walls are now fully covered with all manner of stuff that I love, old and new.
@Minime: thank you. I just looked online for vintage pot holders & similar items. Some of the thread colors looked real,in that the gradations seemed the same as in some of my former pieces that came from or through older relatives. There is, somehow, a sense of tactical sameness, as if my hands would remember how each piece should feel. I have no money to buy anything, but it is fun to look at these things.

Wishing a pleasant Father's Day to any fathers we have here.
