Does Amazon have excellent customer service?

I ordered something on amazon, just a 32g sd card, with 2 day free shipping. The product failed to arrive yet said it was delivered in my mailbox. I chatted up Amazon support and told them what happened and they immediately asked if I want a refund or replacement. I chose replacement. They said that they will ship out a replacement with 1 day shipping at no cost to me. It was only a $10 order, so do you think they would have reacted differently if it was a more expensive product?

Edit: for color

No. I think they would have reacted the same. I love Amazon. I buy a lot from them. When there's a problem with delivery, they immediately take care of the customer and they handle the complaint with the delivery service.
I prefer independent retailers to Amazon. Amazon treat employees and vendors badly. And they don't pay the taxes they should.

Amazon is not even always the cheapest option. In fact their prices are creeping up as they eliminate competition such as Toys R Us.

Oh! And Jeff Bozo looks like one of the guys who lurks in shadows wearing a dirty Columbo coat.
Dave, from my experience in mailbox means U.S.P.S. delivered it. Amazon is great, but you should contact the post office. My carrier sometimes seems to hold the mail.
I sent my daughter a gift from Best Buy (free shipping), she lives in Chicago, she got it in 4 days. I bought the same thing for myself from Kohl's (free shipping) it took 2 weeks? I am surprised they would mail out a 10.00 gift, and yes, I definitely think the more expensive the purchase, the more serious they take it, although I don't deal with Amazon, i'm only guessing.....

Just got stuff yesterday from them. Instead of boxes, they used padded envelopes. That means that every single thing shipped in a box was crushed. They're gifts so there's no time to ship them back. For most, it's just the box that looks horrid. One is just trashed, though. Interesting that they offered you a 1-day replacement. Guess I'll call them and see if I can get the same.

I did more online shopping with Amazon this Christmas season that I ever have. I had great results with the shipping...I have Prime, so pkgs arrived very quickly. All were received in great condition. So I can only report on them favorably this season for me.
Update: So the replacement failed to arrive, yet it said it was delivered in my mail. I chatted with Amazon again and they again apologized and said if I wanted a replacement or a refund. I opted for a replacement again. They threw in $5 store credit for the inconvenience. I'm not in a rush for the micro sd card so I'm not really that mad. I wonder if shipping is just backed up since it's nearing Christmas and they're just saying things are delivered when it's not for some reason. Other than that, I wonder if it's a thief that's just stealing packages.

The lost package stuff may be less Amazon than the shipping carriers. Unfortunately, Amazon, WaMart, and all the other online shippers contract with Fed Ex and UPS to deliver. I haven't gotten anything lately from Fed Ex, but UPS is doing a crappy delivery job. They are delivering my packages to all my neighbors and delivering their packages to me and others. We are all walking up and down the street trading packages. So far, our street has been safe from thieves, but it's all over the news that in my city, thieves are following the UPS trucks and stealing packages from the porches right after delivery. The news showed a clip from one family's security camera. showing UPS delivering and 7 minutes later, a male taking the package, walking to a car, and driving away.

Amazon has started using "drop boxes." There's one at the whole foods near me. They look like lockers at a bus station. You get your package sent to one of the drop box sites and you stop by and use the combination to open the lock and pick up your package. I might try that to see how well it works.

Amazon has a "last minute" ordering for Prime members with 1-3 hour delivery in or near 50 cities in the US and 8 countries. If I want delivery by Christmas, the latest I can order is 9PM Christmas Eve and it should be delivered by midnight. It might be fun to test that out, too. I have already used the 2 hour guaranteed delivery a few months ago and I'm pleased to say I did actually get delivery within two hours.

The crappy packing that Ishop reports is worrisome. I haven't experienced that, but I'm guessing it's due to poorly trained seasonal workers. There was a newsclip of a seasonal Amazon worker throwing packages away. He's now been fired and the packages replaced.
So, I worked for Amazon for a year. Great gig. We were taught to replace, refund, reconcile. Now, there are a lot of factors at play. Their algorithm tell the customer service agent if you have ever called before, if you have had a lot of missing packages, if you have a lot of credit, if anything weird or wonky is going on, etc. in your account. People who were repeat callers get sent to a specialty team. Some even get emails and blocked calls preventing them from calling from numbers and information on file. Anyway --

I was a level II RG. I could refund, replace, or reconcile a situation up to $1500 and I could issue Amazon credits up to $50 per order. What this meant was that if your order was $1500 or less, I got to decide if we were going to give you a refund, reship the item, or if we were going to investigate with USPS and for your trouble, I could doll out a gift card to you for up to $50 to be used on items that were sold and shipped by Amazon. If your order was $5 or $50, the outcome would have likely been the same. If your item was more expensive but you've purchased 12,000 worth of merchandise this year, it would have still likely have been the same.

It's Christmas time, and if you used the online platform to select your item and the system worked properly, it probably set off alarms that you were calling about a $10 item and your call likely went to the retail department that were hired for Christmas and working from home. Those folks get a smaller limit, less responsibility, etc. but they can issue refunds, reship, and give out little $$ tokens to help.

USPS has been guilty of scanning packages prematurely. They were on the news recently for scanning in to meet quotas. Something you can do is request GPS coordinates of where a package was scanned and delivered at. Sometimes it will magically appear, other times it will show it was delivered elsewhere and USPS will provide a refund for insurance if Amazon wants, and even still -- sometimes they will argue it's your fault. *Shrugs*

Amazon was great about customer service. They wanted us to never blame, always listen, fix any additional issues... oh and get off the phone in like 4 minutes or less haha. The service agent has metrics to keep up with to keep their job if they were a seasonal or temp. They need to make sure you fill out a happy survey tongue sticking out smiley

I'm all over the place this morning -- but basically, if your account is in good standing, you don't have frequent issues, and it is an item that is in stock and not a camera, iPhone, or piece of expensive jewelry -- and it's fulfilled or sold & fulfilled by Amazon -- they will probably replace it or refund you for as much as $1500. I rarely did those myself and forwarded to a higher team -- but on one occasion, I did refund a camera lens set for a photographer of $1200 -- after it was apparent the driver had took it elsewhere (The driver was an Amazon truck!)

It's coffee time.

I guess if the 2 other micro sd cards come in the mail, I'll have some extra, (late) Christmas presents to give out.

Or you could return them, if you wanted to be a good person.
Or I could keep them since they said if they ever do arrive in my mailbox, then I don't need to return them. Maybe if it was an expensive item, they would ask me to return it, but it's only a $10 item.

OK. In that case it is fair enough that you keep them.

My point was that it is better to be honest as possible in these kinds of situations with vendors. The reason being is that sometimes people with genuine issues are not believed because companies think the customer is pulling some kind of scam.
I have Prime and do a lot of shopping on Amazon. The products have been hit or miss but the customer service is great. I have gotten a package the next day (don't know how they do that) and their returns are really easy. They are starting the drones next year in my area and I am curious as to how that will work. Amazon is taking over the world, that is why the malls are failing.

@teriraia: Amazon is not all of the story. Many retailers suffered from internal issues, excessive locations, and other problems. Some malls are aging and their owners might not want to spend the money necessary to update them. Some once-popular malls are overlooked as traffic and new, bright lights draw customers to newer malls and other attractions. Amazon uses air and shipping services. These services add to the convenience of online shopping and make it possible for Amazon to provide rapid service.

In the news, some experts are predicting that as retailers move out of malls, the large spaces will be re-purposed for community purposes. This is not necessarily gentrification, but it might be a good thing for some communities.

@OP: I have no recent orders from Amazon. I never had an issue with Amazon.

I received a package from Fed Ex and it came quickly and in good condition and in a box. Kohl's has a drop off now for Amazon. My daughter swears by Amazon, I haven't used it, as so many stores I shop at have free shipping online.

I love Amazon. Great prices and quick shipping. Only had a problem twice. Stale nuts and a $5 credit that had expired for slow shipping. Never told me it would expire.
Both were handled expeditiously and immediately.
My AC blower motor is screaming and it's easy to fix going through the glove box. It's $79 at AutoZone and about $50 or $60 on Amazon. So, I'm looking on Amazon and this is what I see:

[smile.amazon.com]

Four Seasons 75013 Blower Motor Ass
by Four Seasons
$54.22 $ 54 22 + $2.00 shipping
More Buying Choices
$50.06(10 new offers)

Yea, cause I just need the Ass of the blower motor.
Spicy1, My hat's off to you for knowing how to fix the AC blower motor yourself! You make it sound almost easy! I could never do something like that without having extra parts or screws left over!!!
It looks really easy, according to the youtube videos I watched. The hard part will be getting akl my merchandisung junk out of the front seat!
