Good News thread

The good news for me is that I get to go see my "adopted" daughter in Atlanta in a few weeks.
I met her when she was 23 years old and in a shaky situation involving a would be predator. I was able to help her and we became (platonic) friends. Her birth father drank himself to death and I became her adopt-a-dad. So much so that when she got married I flew back East and walked her down the aisle. Now I have two great grand kids. I recently helped her celebrate her 50th birthday.I can't believe that she has been in my life for 27 years.
She is a real blessing to me, especially so after my wife passed away.

The skirt I am wearing is about to fall off of me. It is time for a smaller size. This is good news in the rightsizing realm.

Mum and dad are here and I am ecstatic. They are sleeping now. Jet lagged and tired.
My good news... my mom just had a successful surgery for pancreatic cancer! These last 6 months have been such a roller coaster, surgery was yesterday and she is recovering like a rock star. I'm so thankful this was caught in time and also thankful i was able to come to Florida to be with her.
Porch Season is here!

I...bought a book by one of my fave authors, found a new beloved restaurant, watched an old Miss Marple romp (featuring Margaret Rutherford as a more-amusing-than-usual Jane M.), bought more of the amusing 'Yes, Prime Minister', and completed this day's task list. Everything was good in some way. Huzzah!

Talking (with daughter) about a cruise to Mexico for a late Nov. getaway....my daughter is not a cruiser, but said if I find something, she'll go...smiling smiley This will be my first.

I'm home!!! I had surgery on my ankle on April 29th and spent 3 days in surgery hospital then 16 days in rehab. My ankle has a total of 20 pins sticking out of it. in a big metal frame that I will have to wear for 3-6 months, but at least I'm home. Needless to say,I haven't been shopping and will not be able to until this frame thing comes off, but I will still be around reading.
Take care of yourself Barbage. Best of luck to you.

Inexpensive cruises from LA to Mexico on Carnival or Princess. Check cruisecritic.com for reviews to see which line best fits you.

Wowza,Barbage! Take care of you!!!!!

I thought it was da' bomb that there was a seat for Diana at Harry and Meghan's wedding. This showed honor.

Feeling this is my last hurrah...non't a fan of Carnival (too young), but will do Princess, as there headquarters are in my town, may go in and pick up brochure, although I did check it out online.

Bear with me as I'm not sure if this is good news or bad, so, I'll let you guys decide. I am finally (after trying) retiring, not taking anymore jobs except my favorite restaurants with easy reports. I have given up the grocery stores, and a bank was my last. Now do I also have to give up the forum, or can I wean myself off....just saw the terrific movie "Book Club" with my favorite, Jane Fonda, who wears age well.....concentrating on being a fabulous senior takes work, you know.....

Gone too long, busy squeezing in what I could before school was out.

Firs, barabage, I wish you a good recovery. Enjoy this time to yourself as you heal.

Irene_L.A., the morning you posted about seeing your sister, I was trying to PM you about the upcoming visit, thinking of you before you updated. But then Comcast internet failed me befote I finished and I had to leave for jobs. I hope it all went well just being together with your brief reunion.

I too will be cruising for the first time. My mother-in-law has a bucket list and she, and I suspect the ex, are springing for the big trip with all of her sons together. If any of you hear of a mom overboard that first week in August near an Alaskan glacier, blame it on a certain copper-topped 15-year-old. I never learned how to swim.

And Irene, I am happy for you that you are more fully embracing your time to enjoy life. You will be missed if step away from the forum too. Please do check in and keep us posted about your adventures.

Wrapping up a forgettable, quick backyard grilled dinner with a beautiful 1995 Bordeaux, Chateau Haut-Marbuzet from Saint-Estephe that has held up fabulously well in our basement. Happy Anniversary to us, 21 years. It's a beautiful night around the fire pit with the wine paired with some surplus artisan cheeses my husband served his staff with their recent tasting. He is a good teacher.

Last, I wish you all a safe holiday as we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. As Cdr. Dan Shanower reminded his readers in a Naval Journal article in May, 1987, "Freedom is not free."
GOOD NEWS.....my daughter called to say she couldn't talk, just wanted to see how I was...she has a date today with a guy that went to Northwestern (her Univ.). Hope it goes well, I'm on cloud nine.
