I'm Voting for Bernie Sanders in 2020 
Vote for a rabid and admitted anti-capitalist who is out to throttle the businesses we rely on for our paychecks?? Cut your own throat, but leave mine out of it! I believe it is a very bad idea to allow threads of ANY stripe of political discourse on a shopper forum- liberal, conservative or so-called moderate. It only serves to divide a group that all have one thing in common: successful shopping and making a good income. This is a VERY bad idea.

Medicare for all means Medicare for none. This subject is divisive and should not be allowed.
I have pretty much avoided this thread because the exchange of differing political ideas in the last 2 plus years has been anything but a civil exchange of ideas. However, many of the posters here have displayed a genuine civility in discussing issues, and I appreciate the thought out discourse. Health care is a major concern in our country. I completed my masters thesis on health care reform in 1991, and the concerns have not changed much. I also was a lifetime civil servant in the VA healthcare system. I happen to think that the VA does an excellent job managing the full range of care for their patients. My husband has private healthcare insurance but uses the VA for most of his care because he likes the continuity he gets across the spectrum. While Medicare For All screams of socialism to some, I do not think our nation can move forward and truly prosper until we have a system in place that guarantees all citizens affordable healthcare. If we can take care of health on the front end with good preventative care that includes rewards for eating healthier food, we will not have to pick up the price tag for expensive health care costs on the other end. I also agree that food selections and exercise are the best medicine available.
Sanders may run as a Democrat, but he is an avowed Socialist. Is that really what you want for your kids/grandkids? I feel like we lose our liberties enough as it is. Total loss is not on my list of things I want to experience. Im a registered Independent; Ive voted for people from several parties. The Democrats desperately need a "good" candidate. One who still puts the country first before greed and power. One who is not so consumed by their hatred of Trump that he can see what lies ahead.
I understand that adequate care and appropriate access are difficult for some people and impossible for others. But many people are getting their needs met without additional assistance from the government. Why, exactly, should those people who are getting along well without additional assistance from the government receive Medicare?

A Medicare for All system would be great and cheaper than the status quo in all great likelihood. If you want faster service and can afford it, like now, you can pay for it just like it is now like in other "Socialist!!" countries like Germany, Canada, England, Australia, Japan, Korea, etc. All countries which pay LESS for healthcare per capital than our country.
But God forbid we elect a candidate who some like to pin the label "Socialist!!!" on despite his support of a largely free market economy while we actually elect a President who said Australia does their healthcare better than we do.

With universal health care, the medical providers are still part of the private sector. Clinics and hospitals, large practice or small, would still be still be businesses. The hospitals that are non-profits would still be so and the ones that are for-profit would still be so. The main difference is that they would no longer need a huge billing department or the need for the regular use of a collection agency because most of their clients would have the same plan and they would know they were getting paid.

What you describe is exactly what happened with b o care. People who had been responsible and bought Insurance before they were sick or had an accident, had good plans and they forced to give them up.

I gave up voting years ago. Elections are rigged through gerrymandering. When you vote for something and it passes, they take it to court and the judge overturns the people's vote.
Voting on local elections and ordinances can really make a difference.

Remember when Pelosi told the House to vote on the thousand-or-so-page document that was Obamacare? She told the members that the only way to find out what was in it was to vote on it. They voted on it. I did not hear anyone describe the behind-the-scenes strategy that was used to maneuver Obamacare into this voting situation. We should always remember, wonder, and roar, "Who does that???!?"
Now, Pelosi is back at the helm of the House. I hope that someone will educate the House members properly so that each member is not overly influenced by passionate lobbing cries, powerful arm-twisting tactics, or other methods which could impair their ability to think through the issues that are presented to them for due and careful consideration.

I just watched Congressman Tim Ryan and was impressed and finally feeling we have hope. Please look into his speech, he seems to be a young Biden and a good honest man with knowledge and integrity. Keeping an open eye for more of him.

That depends entirely on your definition of socialism. If you're talking about the type of socialism where the government owns all the industry then yes, you would be correct. I know very few people who actually believe that. Those countries are normally dictatorships where the dictator is the actual benefactor. It's rare for there to be a truly socialist country. If you're talking about Democratic Socialism, which is what Bernie Sanders and other progressive members of the Democratic party want, then yes, there was dozens of examples. Most of those examples beat us in most measurable positive categories and trail us in most negative categories. Everything from happiness to education to health care to murder rates.

Socialism for Bernie and most Democrats pertaining to health means "one for all, and all for one" with everyone having the same health care, which I am opposed to...call it what you will, it is levels down from what I now have, why should those with good Ins. want to switch, and why make anyone switch, give it to those that have no Ins.
