how do i get rid of a scammer?

Hi, I commmitted the silliest mistake ever. Well I did not know I was being scammed. I provided some personal info in a quick survey I clicked on. I saw this in a FB group. Well, today I received a cheque for almost 3000 dollars, that was weird and after investigations I realised it was fake. So here is the point, the scammer keeps sending me text messages and he even callled me. What should I do to get rid of him?
Plssss, thank you!

Give his phone number to the Federal Trade Commission. They are highly interested in this type of scam and also would probably like to have your check and any other information you have.

I have a feature on my phone that blocks numbers, doesn't yours? Otherwise, you can text him that you gave his number to the police. That might do it.

Chances are this guy is in another country...
Oh yeah, and congratulations on being smart enough not to fall for this! You wouldn't believe how many people do. It's really sad.
Do you think he will stop calling and sending messages? I do not want to have any troubleee! So I should block him and leave everything like that.
Thank you for the advise. Lucky me I did notice about the scam before it was too late.
The scammer should stop bugging you as soon as he realizes he's not going to make any money..... Let him know you are not interested.

Hard work builds character and homework is good for your soul.
You could tell him that your significant other or a family member is a police offer or something and to quit bothering you and then block him.
Tell him you know it's a scam and you have reported him to the authorities. That will end all communications.

Tell him you've turned his phony check over to the Postal Inspectors.

If you still have the envelope and the letter that came with it, turn the whole thing over to your local postmaster.

And it may not have been the survey; I have never completed a survey, but got the same type of scam in the mail.
Turn the check over to the Postal Inspector at your local post office. It is mail fraud. If the check is counterfeit - which it certainly is - then it is also an issue for the Secret Service, but the postal service will coordinate with them.

Do not reply to the scammer's text messages. If she/he phones you, tell the person that you have died/have been imprisoned/have moved back to Nigeria.
I would not respond to them at all. I would report them to Postal Inspector, Police.
Now that they think they can scam you, be sure that they will try other areas, phone calls, IRS, SS, etc.

I've always been a great believer in the audio assault program.

Pick some nice loud music, and next time they call. Just pick up the phone, and blast them with it. grinning smiley

If they file a complaint claim it was an accident.
Lately when I get a scam call I act like I believe them. Recently I got the electric co scam that they owe me money because I over paid. I said, "If you have my name and address just send me the check. Them,"We need your account number." me, "What is the name of the electric company?" Them, "Eversource." Me, "I don't have Eversource." Them, "Who do you have?" Me, "I thought you had the information." Them, "I need your account number so I can send you a check." Me, "OK, I'll go get it." I put the phone down for awhile, pick it up and say, "Are you still there?" Them (frustrated), "What is the name of your electric company?" Me, "I don't know, can't find the bill." me, "Why don't you just get a real job."
My daughter told them that she would not be cashing it as she knew it was a scam - different situation, but same scam, they stopped bugging her immediately. I know the post office does actively investigate these as well if you still have the packing, assuming it came USPS. I agree with the others too, say your peace and block them.
I have a new way of dealing with them. I lightly touch one of my landline phone buttons, say "recording" in a computer tone of voice, and then ask them what I need to do to help them. Oddly enough, they hang up.
In Canada, you just send that to the fraud center of the RCMP in Mississauga. I have no idea-FBI.
The USPS account for the return address is hacked/fake.

I got a call from my (phished) number. I asked them to hold while I recorded the call. They hung up so fast!
