Your Experience With Kitchen Apparatus

I love mine too. I like making coleslaw and I want very finely shredded cabbage. I also use it for lots of other things. I was happy to get it off my countertop though, it's still handy but not taking up space there.

I love kitchen gadgets. I have an air fryer that I love and have beat to death. When this one goes, I'm looking at the combo convection/rotisserie/dehydrator/whatever else oven. I don't do microwaves and the air fryer is so good at heating leftovers and just about anything non liquid up.

Jas, I have an old mortar and pestle that my sister used basically every day and I now use about twice a month. I tried to make pesto with it for my Easter lamb chops and I made a huge mess because it was too small. I'll stick to blending spices with it. I have a bunch of those crappy food processors, but I'd love to get a nice big one.

My boyfriend's brother had a Ninja and it blew up in his face. Luckily it didn't do permanent damage other than a few scars that make his pretty face look like a normal face. Those things scare the crap out of me now.

I've thought about an instant pot, but I have a crock pot and can't really justify having both right now. I bought a bread machine for $5 on my last day of working at the thrift shop before we closed down and I have used it at least twice a week. I imagine that the novelty of it will wear off after the quarantine and I'll give it back to the thrift store.

My boyfriend's pop was a butcher and he inherited their little apartment in his father's house so he brought them here for me. Most of the knives don't have names, but they are amazing as long as maintained. There were a ton of utensils in there that I had no idea what they are, but I brought them home anyway. One day I'll figure them out. smiling smiley

I absolutely love pesto. I grow a ton of Basil and spend about a half a day in September making pesto and gifting it. I keep a lot and freeze it for myself. From taking off the leaves to finished product it takes about 10 minutes in the Cuisinart. Takes about the same amount of time to make aioli, mayo, hummus or olive tapenade.

I don't keep any appliances out on the counter. The only things out on the counter are glass canisters for flour, bread flour, red lentils, orzo, black beans, dried peas and a big fruit bowl.

I love my bread machine. I measure out the dry, eggs and wet ingredients, set the alarm for 4 am, dump them in the bread machine, turn it on and go back to bed. When i am ready to get up there is fresh bread. Yum.
OMG I love you, at least about the various sauces. We would have a fight about the appliances. They can stay on the counter if used more than once a week! My husband just doesn't care as long as he gets to eat good food.
My Wüsthof knives are almost 40 years old, and I can't imagine using anything else.

I like that idea. I could clutter up a cabinet or two with never ending gadgets, have more space for chopping, and have some visually appealing glass containers on the countertop.

I finally have one completely clear counter top. Well, it stays that way 94% of the time. I got rid of clutter, found homes for kitchen stuff, relocated a few tentatively identified lingering objects, and revealed a space that is alternately used for groceries fresh from the car, food prep, and propping the legs for stretching. This is substantially cheaper than moving to a place that is large enough for a mirrored wall and a barre...

I have a set of Cutco knives that I LOVE. I started buying them piece by piece. I ordered them right from the catalog or more recently, online. For years I had them in trays in a drawer but needed the drawer space. I got a knife block on ebay for 1/3 the price I would have paid from Cutco. It was someone's knife block that looked barely used. That was a great buy.

I have one but I don't use it often. It makes me nervous. If I want thinly sliced potatoes or something else, I get hubby to do it with the mandolin.
I don't use my mandoline often. I have a Excaliber dehydrator, so use the mando for getting veggies and stuff ready for it. Have I ever sliced my fingers? Yup....

Taco holders! I had some fish tacos in Mexico and boy did these things make it easier to manage the tacos to keep the filling from falling out and making the shells soggy on the bottom. I was just reading an article about kitchen stuff and was reminded.
JAS, I got the taco holders that look like a taco truck. Yes, I am THAT extra. smiling smiley

That's scary! I hate blood, it freaks me out. Blood is supposed to stay on the INSIDE of the body.

What kind of veggies do you dehydrate and do you just use them for snacking? My FIL makes dehydrated smoked salmon in his. I was thinking about getting one for my husband so he could have a hobby.

Who owns and uses a mandoline? Do you love it and use it often?

I absolutely love mine and it get used quite frequently. I hate the guard that comes with it so bought a pair of cut proof gloves on Amazon. The gloves can go in the laundry to keep clean, mandolin gets a quick rinse after use and lives between two knife blocks where it is safe and close at hand. Adjustable thicknesses make it perfect for mushrooms, celery, onions, peppers, potatoes, cabbage, etc.
Every rare once in awhile my husband wants fried potato chips (frips) from fresh potatoes. When he does, he uses the mandolin and I cook them. I am far too clumsy. He manages to not cut himself.

I don't use my mandolin very often. I find that unless I have to have a lot of precise slices or precise julienne cuts I do better with a knife. ATC reviewed a variety of types and the Kyocera with the Ceramic blade and hand guard was only $20 and scored high.

Does anyone use a Sous Vide? I bought one, haven't tried it yet.
I don't have one, but have thought of buying one since that seems like an interesting/different way of cooking I'd like to explore. I have an Instant Pot, and I think they make one.

My sister was scared to use her mandolin as well so I sent her a pair of gloves. She too is now a mandolin convert. [www.amazon.com] is roughly what I got. My original pair a few years back was around $10, the pair I sent my sister had gotten the price down to about $8 a pair and now they are 3 pair for about $10.
I had a mandolin and I did not like it. I like knife action and the simple clean up (only one thing to clean and store). I dislike fussy things with parts and pieces! They are awkward to store together, and storing them as they fit is just silly.

I have wanted a mandoline for the longest time but it's so big? Also scared that one will be cut. The gloves sound great Flash! What brand do you all own? It's got to be easy to clean. Thank you in advance chefs!
