Best to compost it before use otherwise you might get hay growing in the middle of your garden from he undigested seeds.

deleted....don't need to buy wine. I am using vinegar with dish soap. I'll get the little bugs without buying a thing.

I got some kale plants on a shop 2 years ago. Out of laziness, I didn't cut the plants out of the pots. Imagine my surprise when two if the plants are sprouting!
I have 2 big planter pots and 3 bags of dirt in irrelevant parts of my house. I plan to put them to use this weekend and plant tomatoes, herbs and peppers.

I might plant some seeds in potting soil. I have never done that. I have a few pots with dirt that I pulled the plants from and they are empty so why not?
I planted coleus, geranium and marigold seeds. I will buy Bonnie plants at local hardware store. I had them last year. They did much better than my plants. LOL I want sweet peppers, roma tomatoes and heirloom red beefsteak. I'll wait and see what else they have. I will plant seeds for beets, podded peas, yellow and green beans...maybe lettuce.

My tomato plants are getting taller. My pepper plant is growing slowly. Nothing for my herb seeds yet. My windowsill herbs jumped off the ledge. I watered all of my houseplants, except for the new fiddle leaf fig, today.

I have 2 marigolds and 2 geraniums!! yippee...woohoo
The tops of my tomato plants are tall enough to put into the inner part of the cage. Basil is peeking out of the dirt. Parsley, which surprised me, is turning yellow.

Good for you Honny. You go girl. I got a pile of seeds out but watched tv and read yesterday. Also played BIg Farm game for hours. We won the challenge.....
Anyone grow dahlias in a cold climate and have success overwintering the tubers? Do you store them in the basement or something? How do you store them - like in mulch or compost or loose in a pot? I think I grew dahlias one year and then forgot to dig up the tubers and they didn't make it. Mom would like some this year.

Our winters can get down to the teens at night. I've grown dahlias and left the tubers in the ground with a 3-4" covering of straw, but not all of them came back. Enough did, though, that it wasn't worth it to me to dig up the tubers. I guess it depends on what you're willing to risk.

I have a few coleus sprouted up, 2 gem marigold and 5 geraniums. I hope scallions come up. I put scallion seeds in a peat cup.
I read somewhere that you can easily grow your own scallions by cutting off the root and a bit of green from your grocery store scallions and putting them in a small cup of water (with the green part sticking just out of the water). Well, I did it and within a few days I have scallions that are nearly 8 inches long. Not sure if I can transfer them to outside yet as it's a bit chilly here, but it was very easy to do and now I will hopefully have fresh scallions all summer. It's a lot faster than seeds, me thinks.

@Ms.Judi, I have tried that time and time again. I never had them grow more than 6 inches and then they went kaput.
I grow them in my sunny windowsill. I never planted them in dirt. The seeds I planted in dirt were puny like string.

I don't mind planting seeds. I have enough and have the room. Now I have gem marigold, geraniums, coleus and scallions!!

kimmiemae, at those low temps you would need to dig up and store the tubers. Or you could put the tubers in pots and bury them at ground level in the spring, then pull up the entire pot late in the fall.
Easy dinner night. So, farmer DH and I planted tomatoes, zucchini and green peppers. He overturned the farmland and added topsoil and coffee grounds for the past two weeks. We shall see. Last year, zucchini never cross pollinated. Got maybe 5 of them. The year before the whole neighborhood was supplied with zucchini. Every year, we are the tomato kings, lol.

We had a frost and some of the leaves on tomato plants turned brown, but they are growing quite well. I added organic plant food and watered them again....When I get back from visiting my mom again, I will weed, add more plants and plant some seeds. I want beets, green beans, yellow beans and podded peas. I will get flat leaf parsley and mint. ..woohoo*

My peony bushes are in full boom. Deep pink, fragrant and so beautiful. I love them year after year.
Aldi's had herb plants as a weekly special. They weren't in the store I went to on Saturday. I will have to go to Ace to get the ones I want. The basil and oregano didn't sprout on my balcony. Out of all the mint seeds, 1 sprout shot up in the container.

After Saturday's rain, my outside plants are flourishing. My tomato .plants have buds! My houseplants perked up. The pathos plant I potted from cuttings looks very happy.

I have great tomato plants, pepper plant, parsley and cilantro doing great!!! Now I dug up the dirt to plant seeds next!!
I got some seeds from Aldi's on Saturday. I planted the basil seeds in the same pot with the tomatoes. I planted the cilantro in a large pot by itself. I have no idea what to do with the lemon balm.
