Sleepy Hollow is about 15 miles north of me. You can go into the Old Dutch Church graveyard and see stones from the 18th and 19th Century. The 17th Century ones are not in good shape. That's where Ichabod had his head knocked off by Bram Bones' pumpkin. I once went to a Christmas Eve Service there to see the place inside, and I've also been to Washington Irving's home and his own church nearby several times.
I like that story about Sleepy Hollow. I have a children's video version (happy ending), too. I was sure when I wrote "hollow" that someone was going to write "mountain".

They're coddling the kids. When I was in junior high, we read it as is, not a bowdlerized version. We did not become criminals because we read of a man's head being knocked off. They made a movie of it a few years ago, I think with Johnny Depp, and completely changed it. Was that your video? If you give it happy ending, the legend is gone.

You know Irving also wrote "Rip Van Winkle," but he's also known for historical accounts of NY. His home is a wonderful place, very comfortable and compact, where he was a bachelor throughout his life.
No, my version is a cartoon intended for young children. I liked "Rip Van Winkle", too. I heard that his stories were based on European (German?) folk tales.
