Neither, please!!!!

Edited to add: I have no objection to the prayer list topic as it now stands. Asking for good thoughts and prayerful support is fine with me. However, if we move into discussions of the relative merits of different beliefs, I am out of here in a NY minute. Same with politics.

Neither. I'm a minister already so I don't need converting and I'm on a political committee here and already know politics is all crap.

I wouldn't be excited about discussions on either topic myself, but the General Chat category does say "Chat about anything you want. This is for anything other than mystery shopping," so I guess that would leave it wide open for discussing that in this area for those who choose to do so.

Bearing in mind of course that the minute it gets ugly Jacob can and will pull the plug. There are ways to discuss issues in a civilized manner and as long as people keep that in mind there aren't any problems.

I love the thread on the prayer list. I discuss mystery shopping in light of my Christian beliefs but don't force my beliefs on anyone. I don't think I've said anything that should offend anyone because I don't point fingers. I only say what I believe God has done in my life and give Him honor for the success I have in mystery shopping and other areas of my life. I will not work at converting anyone, but rather hope to just reflect a positive attitude resting in joy and blessings I receive.

I don't do politics at all. My brother wears me out trying to get me to vote "his way" and I just change the subject. lol
ibless,
I actually went back and added to my post to say that I had no problem with the current discussions on the prayer list specifically because no one was trying to either convert anyone or belittle anyone. Making the proverbial "joyful noises" never hurt anyone, neither the singer nor the bystander, lol.

Oh, I need to retract what I said before, and explain. I saw this thread right after noticing a post on one of the main boards, which, at least to me, seemed to be overtly religious and completely out of context. Maybe I'm crazy, but that's how I read it, and I thought it was inappropriate. My post here was a knee-jerk reaction to that post, but yes, as SpyGirl pointed out, this would be the place.

Just like in real life, I'm absolutely fine with these discussions, as long as they're civil, and people can agree to disagree. I respect views of others, even if they may not be the same as mine. In general, I find that diversity makes life more interesting!

NT, I saw the same post as you did, and got a litle scared...which is what prompted me to take a poll of sorts. I see Jacob took care of it for us.

I have no objection to the current shout out of blessings, but I choose to take credit myself for my "msing career"...just don't want it to get out of hand. I saw what happened on the other forum about Politics, people do get carried away speaking of either subject.

Again, I will never be a finger pointer or tell anyone they have to do things my way or else. I simply choose to try and find the blessings in any given situation instead of wallowing and complaining....and I am very willing to give God His credit. Never said anyone else had to think my way....I've only said how thinking about good things works for me. Used to be the first to complain and found myself depressed all the time. Finding joy and blessings in my life everyday has brought me back to life from a very dark place. Keeping that to myself has not been an option. lol

Today I Will Choose Joy!

"Finally, whatever things are good, true, noble, lovely, of good report...if there be any virtue, if there be any praise...think on these things." ....It's a command, not a suggestion!
If I had my choice, I'd prefer neither, But that is only my personal opinion. Since this forum is for any subject other than mystery shopping, I say go ahead and discuss whatever you want.
Can I add a vote for neither?

We are all united by MSing, but I would guess in dissent on other topics. Let's talk about something we agree on and save the rest for Facebook.
amen.. after 4 years of bible college and 1 year of seminary i have learned that bringing up either is pretty painful

Again, I don't discuss doctrine. I only talk like I do in person, giving God glory for the blessings HE gives.

Blessyah, I did NOT direct this thread towards you, but towards WJones posting something uncomfortable for Jewish folks to have to read on his religion thread. My feeling was he should not use his lord's name in vain. This forum is for all of us...that post was in very bad taste, he is not in his church preaching.

Live consciously....
My uncomfortability with that post had nothing to do with my religion. It was simply that it was completely out of context, and had nothing to do with the thread.
Add my vote for neither religion or politics on this forum.....but can we put to rest the back and forth discussion on why we don't want to discuss either religion or politics. Let's just decide whether we want to or not and not discuss past posts that have been deleted. It's over and I doubt anything like it will be posted again.
Guess I never saw that post lol Will work on not being paranoid. hahahahaha

The post that sparked this discussion was not yours. Jacob deleted it almost immediately. I'm sure not a lot of shoppers saw it. It was not bad, just not appropriate.
Amen! :-)

AM, Jacob didn't delete original post, but WJones deleted the one objective part, many saw it, a few were offended, most were not. There is still quite a bit of praying on that thread, and I'll not go there, my G__ is for me to know, and really not involved in my msing career....can't we all just pray or not in private.

Live consciously....

Regardless of who deleted it, gone is gone. I was not offended but felt it inappropriate. My vote is with No religion and NO politics and No discussion of past posts of religion and politics.
I think it's quite alright for the prayer thread to continue. Some want to be private about their devotions, others public. For those who aren't interested in that, don't read the thread! I'm not sure why this continues to be an issue. The prayer thread is there for those who want it, and it's in General Chat where it belongs without harming anyone. Asking for prayers isn't the same as having a "discussion" about religion or attacking the beliefs of others. It's about sharing burdens and asking for support from others with faith. That's all!

This continues to be an issue, because some as AustinMom continue to badger me about what I believe to be right, and why does anyone care if I choose to post my opinion...I'm over it, but keep writing due to what's been said. ( we can all stop now, it's a dead issue). Please stop trying to control me or anyone that is offended by the subjects of politics and religion, these are subjects that can get out of control (V's discussion on politics)

Why do so many of you say your NOT for politics or religion on a forum, then turn around and say you don't mind the thread.....??

Jacob needs to choose what to control, not us.

Live consciously....
Irene, I'm sorry if you feel badgered. I'm not sure I understand why exactly, but I know I wasn't out to badger or control anyone. I was simply expressing my opinion that I think there is quite a difference between having a religious discussion per se (different religions' beliefs, who's right, who's wrong, etc.) and the sharing of life's difficulties and asking for prayers. At least in my mind, there is a big, big difference. I have never before seen people get heated up over someone asking for prayers, but I have seen people get heated up when they start discussing individual religions or particular religious beliefs. If people asking for prayers from their fellow shoppers is really that offensive, I think it's good not to read that particular thread, thus no offense would be created. I'm sure there are dozens or more who haven't read that thread at all and simply aren't interested. There are numerous threads that I haven't read because the topic doesn't interest me, and I'm not offended that it's there. If Jacob wants to remove it, that's his right. If he doesn't, then it likely will continue for those of us who want to support each other through prayer.

Sorry you feel badgered, Irene. That was not my intent. If you believe you were being badgered, I certainly apologize, although I'm totally perplexed as to why you would believe that. Your original post was not an opinion, it was request for opinions. If you want to express an opinion, you certainly should be able to do so. If you ask for the opinions of others, you should be ready to hear those opinions.
