Inspired by an episode of a cooking competition show, and armed with similar free ingredients, I made a great salad for myself. In the show, contestants were given one dollar with which to purchase ingredients that cost a few cents. One Scallion; one slice of bread; and other items that I have forgotten. The winning chef made an appealing salad with finely sliced bread and something else. I tore my Romaine and slices of bread and nuked them. I like the warm lettuce, but this experiment does not involve wilting with hot bacon fat. It is only on the extremely cheap. Then, I added bits of my healthy oil, ACV, and fave spices. Good. ! The salad could handle nuts, veggies, or chicken. The protein and texture would help. But it is good as is and involved no outlay of cash.
I need to find that show and re-watch the episode. Tubi, here I come!
My garden in England is full of eating-out places, for heat waves, warm September evenings, or lunch on a chilly Christmas morning. (Mary Quant)
