Is anyone concerned about tariffs?

According to a source on daily fetch, there are some jobs that might be "bizarre" and, possibly, pay well. We are in the gig economy and know from weird tasks which often do not pay well. This has nothing to do with tariffs directly, but it might pique someone's interest who has time to explore jobs and gigs...

Never mind tariffs and tantrums, libs are rooting for a recession in the economy, but for now it means new highs for stocks.

That's ridiculous, no one wants a recession. Our economy is improving because our Federal Reserve chair, Jerome Powell (who Trump wanted to fire but doesn't have the power to do so), is doing an amazing job, despite all the screwups our clueless president is making. When Trump is done with the agonizing next 3.5 years of his term, our country will likely never be able to recover from the trillions of dollars in debt he's piling on as he pillages and loots from the middle class and spirals the borderline classes into poverty and destitution. Ripping healthcare away from struggling elderly people and mothers with young children--yeah, what a great guy.

Has anyone ever studied the consistent utilization rates? How many people, exactly, are affected? And how many people are consistently doing little things that cost nothing except time but boost health and well-being? If anyone could still get grants, they might quantify and qualify the real relationship between funded services and need for those funded services...

From the trenches: here, in poverty land, it is possible to manage health concerns despite cuts in funding. Should I now get a gazillion dollar grant to study myself and others so as to identify why I can do this while others cannot do this... Or, not...

Well...um...I guess it's better in socialist Canada, eh?

yep, zero sum game, just like football, one side wins, so the other side must then lose.

heaven forbid we look deeper into the systematic issues....SMH.
Shop-et-al, I may be misunderstanding your post, but the Bipartisan Policy Center (think tank)
has this to say about US immigration policy:

"At a time when soaring national debt threatens economic prosperity, it is important to understand how immigration impacts federal spending and revenues and economic growth.

All immigrants who work in the United States—legally or illegally—impact our national budget outlook, but those impacts differ based on immigration status and other factors. While immigration increases some federal spending, most immigrants are net contributors to the national balance sheet because they pay more in taxes than they claim in benefits:"

In a nutshell, the article goes on to say we won't be able to pay off debt or grow as a nation until we either increase population growth (and we know families are getting smaller) or growth through immigration.
I will repeat myself - maybe we should look at whether US immigration policy is the problem before we start rounding up brown skinned people like cattle and separating families.

Brings to mind when US soldiers back in the 1800s waited until the men were out on hunting parties before attacking Native American villages with nothing but women, children, and elderly men. They raped the women and slaughtered all or nearly all of these people and called it a win.
Illegal aliens must be deported. No due process coming in, no due process going out.

Of course, if YOU believe illegal is okay, then maybe we should allow unlicensed "doctors" to perform medical services on YOUR body. Or unlicensed lawyers represent YOU in a court of law.

Maybe UNELECTED officials should act on behalf of YOUR country's leadership...oh, wait...we had this the last four years with a leader who wasn't mentally fit for duty and a staff operating the "Auto-Pen."

No, illegal aliens must be deported and, back on topic, tariffs shall be negotiated.
Another story in the news where tariffs are mentioned...

Ah, but it's not tariffs that are the issue. It's not red-tape either. It's California BLUE-tape that makes it unprofitable to stay in the state's capital. So the company is forced to consolidate it's operations.
At about 22 minutes into this Shipping video you can see the impact of tariffs on shipping; unvarnished information, both good and bad.

@barefoot: not sure which post you have referenced when you mentioned me. Will add here that it might be questionable to glorify or mandate family intactness, as if that were absolutely and always an appropriate outcome. Yes, yet another controversial pov from me. But we can handle it...

No, I don't support keeping families together at all costs. Toxic or dangerous family members have to be removed..and it should go without saying that people themselves can decide to go off on their own.
My point was this and I have personal experience with it, so I will share the story.
My son-in-law's brother was in this country, residing here illegally - for 20 years.
Sometime around 2000, he started his own small business.
He had several employees.
He was married, with a wife and two young children.
In 2021, his business was raided and he was deported.
No fuss, no muss, he's not legal in this country, so he must go.
We were sad for him, but it's not something you can fight - he did not have legal status. End of story.
But let's look at the fall out.
His business shuttered immediately and his employees were suddenly without work.
They all went on public assistance -immediately. Some finally got other jobs.
His wife and children went on public assistance. They have remained on public assistance.
The economic activity generated by his business? gone forever
The taxes he was paying to the county, state and feds? gone forever
So my point, again is this...yes illegal is illegal but perhaps we should look at whether the policy is flawed to begin with.
Lots of people like to boast and throw their chests out about what a great country this is....but let's not forget how we got there....a combination of investment, hard work, IMMIGRATION and slave labor.
Our major cities grew as a result of immigration....the process and laws surrounding immigration have changed.
Let's not be stupid. We're tossing out both the baby and the bath water.
We cannot grow as a country, based on the population we have here now. In the area I live in, many jobs go begging - right now.

We have that now with Musk, so not the best analogy. He stole all of our private data by raiding the SSA, and was given the green light to continue to do so by the Supreme Court last week. Did you hear? Or maybe you don’t follow the news on Fridays. That’s when the bombs drop.

I can tell you that I read as well and don’t have time or interest in all of the links you provide to back up your thoughts. Can you manufacture your own using this info with a convincing argument? Half of those stats are probably false. You look up what you want to hear and believe it proves you right. It doesn’t.

If Musk really wanted to help he would go after all of the ‘small business owners’ who falsely reported their income to receive those Covid ‘grants’ that they were supposed to pay back. My state has a list of tens of thousands of 50k+ payments made to rinky dink businesses, many of which were not incorporated, which were never paid back. Tons of $ went to lazy contractors for a full year of employment who used it to buy brand spanking new trucks to show off how successful they are. Many sat on it and retired, except for the occasional home visit for outrageous quotes in an attempt to scam elderly and middle class customers. It’s no wonder it resulted in the worker shortage after. They only work for rich people now. Nevermind the large corporations who swooped in first and stole billions.

Musk would never have the guts or interest to do something like that, since he himself is a fellow grifter. He perpetrated the biggest data breach and theft of all time. Just wait until he plugs it in to whatever AI entity he conjures up. He’s done what he set out to do. All that’s left is political theater. Like anyone gives a @#$%& about a pissing contest between 2 megalomaniacs.

The World Bank put out numbers showing that the US economy is expected to grow half as much in 2025 as it did last year due to tariffs.

How about the Wall Street Journal and the OECD, reporting essentially the same?

Are they biased?
I believe we need to place a tariff on you for research...

How did you do research papers in college? Plagiarize? ROFL

You realize the main stream media is biased, correct? There is plenty of data showing the bias. Even lawsuits such as the recent ones against CBS and ABC.

So, to answer your general question...no, reporting is NOT essentially the same.
