Harland Clarke shops

I have been applying. And applying. And applying. Haven't gotten a shop yet. Is there a private club? Anyone have a clue?

They may or may not have shops in your area. They are somewhat hard to get started with--I think I got to wait 12-18 months before I was emailed that they had shops available in my area. They do all of their scheduling by email.

Edited to add: Do watch the job board here because when they have hard to fill locations they do post them. They also show up sometimes on Jobslinger.

Thanks...they have been posting a lot of jobs recently. Yes, all by email. I respond/reply but NADA.
Hey Jersey07032

I signed up a month or two ago. I always get emails, but I rarely request assignments because they are too far for me. Everything is done by e-mail and phone. I've noticed most of the shops seem to be in the Southeast: NC and GA.

I requested shops for the first time last week. I was assigned 3 shops with no problem. I sent an e-mail requesting the shops, and was accepted a few hours later. Super Easy. I already did two of them, very easy!

I have included contact info from my e-mail. All of the e-mails say to send to someone who may be interested;so, here ya go. You should call and ask if they have shops in your area. (Tami is nice)

Good Luck.

Got my first HC shop today. They seem really easy to deal with. I called them for clarifications (as per the email). The person I talked to couldn't have been nicer. This appears to be one of their lower paying shops, but still not bad. Any clues, helpful hints, etc.

They are good about providing samples of the detail they want. Use it pretty much as a road map for your report and add a little more and they will be happy campers. Their work does require more narrative than most bank shops, but the pay is commensurate with it. They are beginning to have some shops report on a website, though most are still reported by email. Make sure you remember to send them an invoice (they probably sent you an excel file to use). I find them extremely professional to deal with.
So far I am liking what I see. Very nice folks. Glad I got a shop. I figure once I do one, it will be easier to get others. At least that is my hope.
They are very good. Reports are bit long, but pay is fair. They also pay very fast. I like Vicky.
I have a great deal of admiration for Vicky as well. From time to time an invoice gets 'lost in the weeds', so if ever you do not see payment within 30 days, contact your scheduler. It is not deliberate but oversight and they are always chagrinned when it happens. The check stubs are not descriptive of what is being paid so you will need to do a match and guess to your records.
I am only hoping I get so lucky that I have multiple shops with HC. On my way now to do my first. This is a re-shop.
I have been doing shops for HC for a couple of months, and they have become one of my favorite MSCs to work for. smiling smiley
So far, I love them. I did the shop and started filling out the form....don't really like how they have their forms. Had some questions, so I called and got a live human being person who gave me some guidance. All good.
Actually, I like their forms. They do not ask same information gazzillion times or narratives after every few questions and then one big narrative. They also don't expect to subit report 8 or 12 hrs after the shop. You can do the shop and as long as you send them by the due date it is fine.

They only do small regional banks and credit unions. They have inside track - they print checks for all of them anyway.
I did like that. what I meant was I didn't like that it was a word document. When I was filling it out, I kept losing stuff. But, really, it was an easy shop. And I from what little I know about the MSC so far, they come across as fair and reasonable. I have had experiences like this with a few companies (including a couple that other shoppers don't like.) It is always a joy to work for a company who thinks of me/treats me like a member of a team and an asset. Not very many of them do.
Create your narrative in a second word document, copy and paste into the correct space on the word document. The document they provide has some odd formatting stuff so the copy paste of text over rides very nicely.

And you are exactly right about 'member of the team'. It is the difference between working FOR a company and working WITH a company and it makes all the difference in the world.
Sadly so few MSCs treat us like adults, let alone team members. Sad. But the good ones are really good. Which is why I stick with it.

I'm glad you were able to get a shop. I'm still a fairly new shopper with them, but my tip would be to make sure you get names. They say the report will not be accepted without names.

I had a shop today and the teller did not have a name plate or name badge, and she sent me directly to the platform rep. When I left I realized I didn't get her name. I had to go back in. You can always make an excuse to go back in: lost wallet, keys, sunglasses, phone, etc.
I've done a dozen shops for Harland Clarke this year and am very grateful to be in their shopper database. By far, one of the best companies that I've ever worked with. Vicky is outstanding! For the new shoppers, there isn't a site that you can apply for shops in the way that you can with Sassie and Prophet. You have to watch for the scheduler's emails on shops within your area. From there, just state your availability and see if you're accepted.
I applied for a lot of shops and was not selected. I finally took the advise of someone on this Forum and emailed Vicki directly, just asking NICELY if I would ever be selected. I immediately got a shop, the one I did yesterday. It was a re-shop and she needed some one who could do the shop the next day. I have talked to a couple of women at Harland and both of them have been extremely warm and supportive. I am hoping my shop is what they are looking for. I always get nervous the first time I work for a company. It is hard to know/anticipate exactly what they are looking for. Sure, they all what accuracy and some varying degree of detail. But I have had editors tell me that I put in too much detail and others come back to me for more info. I never know.
I called them about 2 months ago for that exact reason, and was informed that they do not as of yet have an ACTIVE webpage. You have to call them to check for jobs and through calling them I have had 3 bank shops in my area and they pay quickly.
