This was my fourth sandwich shop for them in the past 2 months (same client) and I filled out all forms exactly the same without even 1 clairification question for the other 3. It just doesn't make sense. The forms were all the same. Oh well - .
I do them, but really don't like the sub shops. While I get welcomed and treated politely, and the food is good, I sometimes can't commuincate with the order taker, submaker or cashier. They just don't speak English and nod most of the time. We must be doing some good, because the last few that I did, I was able to communicate with the workers! Just report this to STN if you have this problem. The main thing is to get your timings right and paint a picture of your visit. (I think)
I love working for STN. The schedulers are always willing to accomodate the shoppers' schedule whenever possible. I did not find the editors to be particularly finicky either. Once in a while I receive emails asking me for clarification but once I submit my reply it's normally accepted. When I messed up on a shop, such as turning up at the location outside the time frame that the shop should ve been done, then they had a right to reject my report.

I feel they are one of the companies I am making most money with lately.
I have noticed that when you do a shop for them you should put a comment in every box, even tho they say make comments about negative things. I have learned to describe as much detail about everyone I come in contact with.
One Auditer got nasty with me and I reported her. No problems since.
Those reports are tedious when you have to actually enter N/A into all the comment boxes. That said, they have some jobs which pay well to begin with and some even nicer bonuses. They also have a couple of real dogs, lol! I was contacted for more narrative a couple of times and it was no big deal.

For all the sub shops I have done, I only add commentary for "no" and "n/a" responses and my reports always gone through and get accepted. And yes, I have been paid. And some included bonuses.

On an added note, some of the questions/answers posed by other shoppers above, my reports did not have the same questions asked. Since these are franchises, maybe there are different versions for different regions. Just a thought.

P.S.
And I have had at least one employee/order taker be descriptive when I asked what came on the XX sub. :-)

I'm pretty sure Second to None was the first MSC I shopped for. It was a grocery shop that is now shopped by ICCDS.

I'm fond of STN, but they're not my favorite. Still, they've always been fair and paid promptly. Sometimes they would ask for clarification when I had already explained an issue in my original report.

Another time, I did a deadline shop for them and found the instructions very confusing. I didn't follow the instructions and sort of made up my own scenario because I didn't know what else to do.

I entered the shop (late night), but still sent an urgent message to the scheduler to notify her of the issue I had. She notified the editor and I received NO inquiries and was still paid for the shop, including the last-minute bonus. I didn't expect them to pay me for that one, but I was pleasantly surprised.

So, STN is a good company and is fair. I rarely shop for them anymore, but it's just because I don't like most of their shops anymore.
I recently had a problem with a scheduler who was a bit rude after I cancelled a shop but otherwise they have been great and always paid when they said they would.
I have shopped for STN for 6 years - excellent company. Of the 100s of shops I did, one was rejected. I argued the point and they agreed their wording was off and paid me for the shop and changed the guideline.

True, but whenever I have a choice, I personally prefer payments via paypal.

I like them. They have fairly simple reports, clear guidelines, are overall communicative, and pay spot-on time, relatively quickly in comparison to other MSPs. Their shops could not be considered high paying, but their reports are commensurate with fees. A downside is getting erroneous requests for clarification. I like the ability to change my shop date, and see what dates are available.
I got things squared away with my sandwich shop issue. Yesterday they offered the office supply store with a $35 bonus (EASY paper secenario). The store is 5 minutes from my home, so I jumped on it. ONE scenario where we CAN make $50 an hour as some not so legitimate companies falsely advertise ;-).
I dropped them from my list. They are cheapskates and try to get out of paying all the time. They also take too long to pay. No thanks.
I dropped them as well. I would not say they suck but they could definitely use some encouragement when it comes to answering communication. Let me preface by saying that I am a patient person and I'm not going to bicker over anything less than $20 because it really is not worth my time. The only exception is if I get no response from a company. Five emails and a barrage of phone calls and I was finally able to get the situation handled.

There were other times where I was promised to be paid for closed locations but was not. I could have followed up on it but it's not worth my time. Generally if a company consistently cheaps out and takes advantage of shoppers people will take notice and stop doing their shops.

From that day forward I have not taken any more STN shops on. Mainly because of the poor communication and partly because I was not being paid when promised.

I haven't had a late payment from them EVER in the past 2 years. You must have them confused with one of the companies that takes 2-3 months to pay out. But even at that, those companies tell you it takes that long up front.
I never have a problem with communication via phone or e-mail. I always get paid on time without follow-up like some of my other food companies. And I received FULL payment for a closed store location. I called immediately from the parking lot and I took photos of the empty storefront and the "for lease" sign in the window as proof. They didn't even ask for the photos but I wanted to cover myself just in case.

It is weird how there seem to be such polarizing experiences and comments for some MSCs.

My situation may have been an isolated incident, but the way it was ultimately handled was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. I did get paid but it was honestly not worth the hassle. I used to do 20-30 shops a month for them. Now I will just simply work for other companies.
I really enjoy working for them. I get lots of free lunches. I especially like to get the $3 bonus.
Beatlesfan - I think you're referring to the sandwich shops - do we HAVE to ask for the sandwich to go through the toaster? I didn't see in the instructions that we have to, but on the report it asks a question about it - a timing qquestion I think. I would rather not have mine toasted but not sure if it's a requirement.

All the sandwiches goes through their oven. I would think its a requirement.

I love this msc but the latest office supplies scenario got me shaking my head. I know it's their clients request and not the msc's fault.

Yeah, the office supply scenario is really weird. If someone approaches you in the paper department within 5 minutes, you have to decline their offer to help and see if they come back. You have to play REALLY dumb!! It's not like picking out copy paper is a major life decision!
The office supply store is the one where I made up my own scenario because there instructions are the carziest I've ever seen. How can I be looking at ink for 5 minutes and if someone asks to help me, I decline it. Then, I have to wait & see if they ask again, at which time I pull the model of my printer out of my pocket. Huh?

How STUPID do you have to be to not be able to find the ink and to DECLINE the offer for help the first time only to see if they come back & offer help again? It made absolutely no sense to me.

I know that it's the Office Store's requirement & not the MSC, but how dumb do they think their shoppers are?
Joytron, you've got me laughing so hard. What scenario did you make up & use? STN just placed a plea for someone to do the CPC copies shop with a $45 bonus today only. I'm thinking about it. Bust I don't know what a memory stick is. Have you done this one?
No not confused. I have also been shopping with them for over two years and this was why I was so surprised that I could not get a response from them after four emails. I eventually had to contact the schedulers and tell them I am no longer accepting assignments until I get resolution. After the dust settled I checked back on a few closed locations and lo and behold I found one that had not been paid.

Yes, that scenario is dumb, but I worked with it and followed the entire scenario. I was referring to the new shops this month which included an additional scenario with the manager, on top of the usual DUMB scenario.

I do not make up my own scenario because that's just wrong. If you cannot do the shop per guideline, then don't take it.

Sometimes your digital watch time is the exact same time as the clock on the wall in the restaurant. I mean from hour, minute, second. The Second 2 None does not and will not pay Mystery Shoppers unless everything is explained in detail in full and clarified. Yes, they send you an email asking for clarification of certain problems.
But, I agree, everyone is not at home when their email arrives. Sometimes you do not answer them according to their time. Therefore, they inform you that you had the opportunity to clarify your report, and due to the fact, that you did not get back to them, they "REJECT" your report.

When anyone's report is REJECTED, then they are not paid. They owe me approximately THIRTY AND 00/100 ($30.00) DOLLARS.

I don't get the connection between the watch/clock and a clarification e-mail. I also thought they allowed about 24 hours for clarification requests. Are they expecting them immediately now?
