Measure Consumer issue

Did anyone else receive the following email from MCP yesterday?

"Attn: Shoppers

Due to a system error some of the xxxx data was lost on a select number of shops. We have re-assigned them to you, and they do still have the original due date on them but please complete and re-submit these surveys for your shop locations. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and we have added an additional $2.00 to these due to this issue."

While I understand that if the data is lost, it's lost and they cannot use the report, whoever is at fault. But do you think an additional $2 is fair? Often the report takes longer than the visit itself. But if I don't submit it again, I won't get paid at all for my efforts. This was also completed over a week ago (about 60 shops ago, many of them the same type of shop) so details are not exactly crystal clear anymore. smiling smiley

Am I wrong to think I should expect more than $2?

I can't argue that $2 seems piddly for the effort. On the other hand, many companies have had system issues and offered shoppers nothing for the additional work, just the threat they would not be paid unless it was submitted again.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

But, Lisa, just because other companies are worse does not mean that this is okay. Why do we base whether somjething is acceptable based on the worst case scenario?

This is MCP's issue and they should not put the onus on the shopper. The shopper has fulfilled the contract for the shop by completing the shop and should get paid in full. If MCP (or any other MSC) would like additional work done, they are free to make a new contract with the shopper for those services.

It is total BS for the shopper to take on the technical issues if the MSC's. We already take on a lot of risk. If I have technical issues which result in me having to redo work, I just do it. It is my responsibility and I accept that freely, albeit not necessarily cheerfully. I don't contact the MSC and ask them to kick down a few more bucks because I had issues.

I feel like the MSC's often want things both ways.

I feel that OP should be able to negotiate a new fee for the new work the MSC wants done.
I said the pay seemed piddly for the effort and didn't mean to imply it is ok. You are absolutely right. I never want to be put in that position. It's a case of weighing the benefits and the MSCs attitude can go a long way toward softening the blow. Whether the OP tries to sweeten the pot will depend on their own relationship, the value of the shop, and the time involved.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

True and in general, I like MCP.

However, I really am getting frustrated with the imbalance ion the insdustry. I feel that all of the risk is on the side of the shoppers.

If I hired a contractor to install a new big screen tv with surround sound (not very likely, but let's imagine) and a week later I get robbed, can I tell the contractor I won't pay them if they don't reinstall on a very short timeline for $2? This really isn't that different.
Great analogy, but the contractor would not have saved a backup TV which could then be installed remotelysmiling smiley In a perfect world, we would have our complete reports saved and it would take significantly less time to input a second time. I have to admit my address is somewhere really far south of perfect world.

LOL. I do save a good portion of my reports, but certainly not all of them.

The thing that pushes my buttons is the threat of not being paid for the work done. IF an MSC asked me to redo the report explaining that there was an error and letting me know that my efforts would be appreciated, I would probably be glad to help. When I am told that I HAVE TO, I begin to get a bit rebellious. ( "You're not the boss of me" )
I really believe that legally, the MSC's have to pay us once the job is performed.

The problem is that it isn't worth $12 to sue the MSC. Even if it was, it would mean no more work for that MSC, and likely others.
If it was your error would they pay you H**** no ! If Cricket Pulled the plug after the jobs have been done so so... I still do not want to be cr****ed on for all the jobs. I have a thought this might be the issue .. Lets see How many shoppers go this same BS email .. Any of the jobs that you put back threw go threw for pay?
Ummm

Read this Measure ... You approved the job the first time I did it ......Guess you did not know I save everything.....
Well, I went ahead and resubmitted it but not before I responded to the email, promising to put as much effort into the redo as the additional amount they were paying me. tongue sticking out smiley Being the weekend, I was afraid they would pull it from my Inbox and it just wasn't worth the additional hassle on Monday. What irks me is that I didn't have time to haggle with them over the additional fee, again because it was the weekend, and if they had to pull it from me and have someone else do it, they would have had to pay them the full amount plus possibly a bonus. Oh well, moving on. Thanks for the responses!!
