Silver lining of a very dark cloud: Reality Based Group

Last week I posted about my first time video shopping experience with Reality Based Group (RBG). I submitted several shops which were all rejected due to audio irregularities the company found unacceptable. I was floored because I’d never had this issue come up before, although I had used the same equipment and obtained consistently similar results. As a matter of fact, I was not even conscious of the audio feedback until RBG brought it to my attention. I went back and reviewed videos of other shops I'd performed and sure enough, there was low-level feedback present on all of the recordings.

I raised such a concern over the rejections that the EVP of the company called me and requested I send one of the recordings to someone outside of their company for review. The third party reviewer detected the noise and said it was something that could not be removed by the editing process. Bottom line: they were not going to be able to accept the shops. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I contacted Dave at McCall Technology and sent him a sample recording. He said it was most likely a malfunctioning microphone and requested I send in my equipment for him to check and precisely ID the problem.

I conceded that the noise was present but maintained my position that it was not significant. After all, other companies were accepting my shops without a problem. Finally deciding that I could not dictate the company’s quality standards, I was ready to chalk it up to experience, get my equipment issue resolved and go back to work.

Well, much to my surprise, they emailed to inform me that once the audio issue was repaired, they wanted me to perform future assignments for the company. Except for the audio, I was told they were quite pleased with my work and that despite being unable to use my recordings, they wanted to compensate me for my time as a gesture of good faith. Floored again! Naturally, RBG went from being at the top of my MSC $#!+ list to a position of, shall we say, much higher distinction...LOL!!

So, in the spirit of a recent post soliciting positive feedback on schedulers/editors we enjoy working with, I thought I’d share this experience. Since it involved not only the scheduler and editor but the EVP and Ops Manager as well, I thought RBG was deserving of its very own exclusive ‘kudos’ and ‘big ups’ post. Thanks to Renee, Jodi, Christophe and Matthew for providing an alternate ending to a story headed towards certain infamy.

How many shops were involved? How frustrating! So glad they came through for you though!
Cool. I do the steak places for them. I got paid for going to the wrong location for gapbuster, reshopped the correct place the next day
I do the restaurant ones as well as the thrift store retail shops. I like the thrift store ones as the reimbursement goes so much farther to get more items!

Shopping across Indiana but mostly around Indianapolis.
