I got the big check in the mail, called my local cop shop and was told, "Thanks for calling us but just tear it up." They had hundreds of these checks.
The scammers don't make a website, they simply copy a good one like they did here.

It takes about 5 minutes to download the viewable outside of a website with all pages with the propper ripping tool. Then they edit the site name graphic and batch change the HTML to the fake website name.
Remove any real contact information and then create a very basic SQL database backend to capture the new fake signup page data.

Then they manually email people that sign up as they don't have the whole site, just the apply to be a shopper section.

PS. 419 is the penal code for internet fraud in Nigeria. They invented the internet version of advance fee fraud and have international gangs set up to allow a mark to talk to several people in different countries and visit multiple very real looking cloned sites. Many are even perfect bank clones.

Most of the scammers cannot write English well enough to be dead obvious that it's fake. They have started buying blank checks that have all of the security features and then printing REAL checking account numbers on them. Same with money orders.

I got a check too but mine was for $1700. I tore it up but did call the number on my information. The info said this number was text only but I called it. I got a recording and left this message "I wanted to hear what a crook sounded like!" I am sure they were not bothered but it gave me a little satisfaction,
ctlbert. Unless you blocked caller ID, they now have a good phone number. They are going to sell your phone number. Be careful when you answer your phone from now on.
