Unfortunately, I'm not able to send you on a 7 hour drive unless you're able to do 3 total locations. Would you like me to try to find a 3rd location in the same area? 315 miles would pay $110.00 in travel coverage. $0.35 cents/mile. Get back to me when you're able.

Thank you,

Hello, bmttinman. Maybe we can help. Maintaining relationships with the companies is just as important as having the shopping skills to pull off the job and the writing skills to report your work. This forum has the information you need to develop yourself as a shopper if you will take the time to read what is offered.

The thirty five cents per mile offered by Bestmark is exactly the mileage rate I request when I have extra driving involved. I also request $12.50 per hour for driving time. Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don’t. Regardless, I always express my appreciation for being contacted and considered.

The amount a company offers is not based on the IRS rate and it is not based on your time involved. It is based on how much they have to pay to get it done. They will explore that and they will always select the lowest bid from among their dependable shoppers.

You mentioned the requirements of the narratives. Some shoppers are not suited for the shops with extensive narratives. Unless you want to spend the time to develop your narrative skills it would be better to move on to shops that do not require detailed narratives. There is no upside to taking exception when a company gives you an opportunity to re-work a narrative, or tells you that your narratives are not acceptable. They know what they need, and if you are not able or willing to provide it there are plenty of other jobs with other companies.

After reading your comments to BestMark that I quoted above, I can understand why they dropped you. Congratulations on being fortunate enough to live and work in the USA. May God bless you and your family that you live in good health and peace.

It is college not collage. Just an FYI. I am surprised you haven't been removed from more companies.
I'm amazed the moderator chose to move the thread rather than just shutting it down. The OP has an ICA/Forum violation which looks to be part of their sig line since it appears exactly the same on his only other post. You know, the part where he advertises which companies have banned him or repeatedly invalidated his reports.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I think we need a limit on the size of signature lines. Can you imagine if we all listed all the companies we work for?

Tinman, you are a self-employed contractor. you are free not to work for anyone who won't pay what you're worth. But coming here in a public forum with a rant like this is likely to get you banned from all the companies you currently work for, and I'll bet they're talking to each other about your post already.

Companies pay what it is worth to them to get the job done. Apparently it's not worth $170 in travel money to get these done ... by you.

Shoppers who do have a good grasp of grammar and who have not been banned from other MSCs for who knows what you did to them might get $200 for the same jobs under the same conditions.

Not sure what the sexual harassment was about but bragging or complaining about it here is hardly appropriate. Because you were banned for it, it sounds like you were the perpetrator.

Regardless, your signature "book" is a violation of forum standards for naming the client wherein the alleged harassment took place. And since you no longer shop for BestMark, I guess it needs to be edited anyway.

Time to build a bigger bridge.

I'm thinking Geary is thinking the company is supposed to pay him fifty six cents a mile because that's the rate the IRS allows. I don't believe he understands the IRS allowed mileage rate has no bearing on what a company will pay for a shop. Just because we know how it works doesn't mean Geary knows how it works. He's probably a new shopper. Most of us think we're smarter than the general run of the mill guy, but the fact is that no matter how smart we think we are, we all start off ignorant and we have to learn how things go. Geary was a plumber and a sheet metal worker. How is he supposed to know how this works when he first starts out?

Maybe Geary is on drugs, I'll bet lots of us have had a little something today. I don't think Geary is mellow enough to be on drugs, though, or he doesn't have the right drugs. I'm on a bunch of them myself and I've got another round coming up in the next hour. Or it could be he's frustrated not being able to get what he thinks he's got coming. I don't know what to make of the sexual harassment; we don't have much information there. All in all I'm not sure what going on, but there's a possibility he's reaching out for help.

He would not be here if he didn't think the interaction with Best Mark went down the wrong way. He thinks that because he's new and he doesn't understand everything. We've all been there. Exactly right there.

Is it not obvious that the writer is seeking opinion on the situation described rather than assistance or advice?

Therefore, with that in mind, my opinion is that if it were me, I would write those E-mails, but, not send them.

Afterwards, I would re-read them and, contemplate their content.

How would I feel if I received them?

But the majority of us will ask for help or clarification in a polite and coherent manner. We do not bash, claim sexual harassment or bring Islam into the mix.
I didn't read it as the OP misunderstanding the government mileage allowance. Even if he did, the employee from Bestmark explained it clearly enough. Personally, I don't feel compelled to breakdown my fee calculations for any MSC representative. My fee is my fee and they can choose to make the deal or not.

To me the rep from Bestmark was out of line with this statement, "If this is not up to your standards than maybe you wouldn't be interested in mystery shopping." He could and should have substituted "mystery shopping" with either "these shops" or "mystery shopping with Bestmark." Otherwise it was just too broad a statement. That said, the response did not warrant the vitriol spewed by the OP and the personal threats.

I agree with not breaking down the fee for the MSCs. I break it down on the forum for informational purposes when I'm explaining how I arrive at my fee.

I agree with everyone that behavior here is not the best we hope to see. I don't believe the OP was reaching out for help. Instead, I believe the OP had some experiences he wanted to talk about and I'm willing to enter that discussion. Can the OP be saved as a shopper? I don't know, but I'd rather respond with something that might make the situation better.

Sexual harassment is what ever it is in the eyes of the victim. It could be as simple as too many glances in their direction. An improperly worded question. Depends on how overly sensitive they are.
But sugar-coating everything is not the answer either. Life is not sugar-coated and we need to learn how to handle criticism and negative situations without having a complete breakdown. Just watch the news. Cops being targeted for revenge murder, mother killing her 5 or 6 children and of course the Sony/North Korea fiasco.
The OP advocated for himself to get more money. Based on post, it appeared that Bestmark threw the first stone.
It looks like he put his real name in the above post so at least you can be on the lookout. But, great, that means more wing shops for me. smiling smiley

I can understand the sexual harassment complaint at BBB if the staff there wear their name tags the same way as the staff I've shopped. The name tags were on lanyards booby high and were difficult to read. It took some intense scrutiny to come up with some names, and some of them were not legible at all. Had I been male those ladies (and their girls) might have taken exception.

Right - especially when they lie askew within their cleavage. Perhaps the answer would be to reach out, gently extract the offending badge, lay it gently across their bosom, adjust as needed and give it a little pat to make sure it stays. grinning smiley

"For not being Collage educated and not having they ability to write reports at this level"

was this purposely poorly written?

IRS does not pay you 56 cents or deduct that amount from your taxes...it is what they allow you to deduct from your income that you pay taxes on...the actual amount you take by taking the deductions is probably a lot less than 35 cents direct reimbursemenet.

re sexual harassment..i did a shop where the name badge was on the man's crotch...the MSC gave me a hard time about not getting up close and personal to see the tiny print....i have not done that shop again since..by choice...
So do you think the sexual harassment was from staring at breasts? Those name tags can be hard to read at times.
I'll be seeing a plastic surgeon next week to repair the teeth marks in my tongue....

Kudos to Mary for heading us all off at the pass. But I did report the ICA violation in the signature line, which I see is still there.

Time to build a bigger bridge.
The amount of the tax benefit we get is not related to how much we spend to run the car. On every trip we take, we need to insure that the money coming in covers the expenses going out and leaves us enough for a decent day's pay for a decent day's work.
