Service Check has just deactivated my account.

I had a rating of 8 with them. I had just one report rejected yesterday and they deactivated my account. LOL I had 6 shops with high ratings. I get just one bad, and they deactivated. LOL Has anyone else had this happen?

I just sent her an e-mail. I asked her..."My account was deactivated over just one bad report?"......... The report requires you to ask for any discounts. During the shop, the sales person told me about the discounts before I had the chance to ask. The store had sides all over, telling you of their discounts. One of the main reasons they did not accept my report was because I didn't ASK for a discount. I told them, the sales person told me about the discounts before I had a chance to ask. It appears the person reading my report didn't care. I still had to ask for discounts, even after being told about the discounts. Which makes no sense.

They also rejected my report from a bank assignment. This one got strange. The report asks...."Did the employee refer to you by name?" I said "Yes". The person looking at my report sent me a message...."Without giving me your name, how often were you referred to by name?". The question isn't about how many times were you referred to. The point is, they acknowledged you by name.
If it was a furniture shop I think you are supposed to ask for an additional discount. `Besides what they tell you about.
Am I the only person here who regularly barters with retail shops? Any big ticket items sale price is a starting point. I always ask for an additional discount when shopping and usually point to the lowest online price and ask them to match it.

If that fails, I ask them to throw something in. If I'm buying a big screen TV, maybe that wall mount can be thrown in to seal the deal. Always ask for the store manager if you get a deer in the headlights looks from the sales person, or they say that nothing is negotiable. This is not MS shopping for me, it's just how I shop.

I have even gone to a discount grocery store (not on a shop) where I have shopped. They had three frozen pizzas left from a "Special Buy" (Limited time offer item) that was in the discount case. I had already had one and liked it. It was better the the Botox man's pizza. There was no yellow price tag. I saw the store manager and showed her that they were not priced and told her I'd buy the last three and save her the effort of even making up a new price tag, if she'd give me a good discount. She didn't even blink before she said $1.99 if you buy all three of them. They were $5.99 when they first came in the store.

Another way to get something for next to nothing is to offer to buy a crushed/torn packaging item. If the contents are still sealed and good, they will almost give it away to get it off the floor. Think $4 item for 50 cents. This is great when there are like 3-4 smashed boxes of great cereal that the main box was crushed when they came in.
I did two previous furniture stores for them. Both times I got high marks. At that time, there were no signs around announcing sales, so I asked. This time, the store was filled with signs announcing a sale, and the store sales person also talked about the sale. I didn't think I had to beat a dead horse and ask for more.

Next time I do a shop like this, I'm going to write down every question they want answered and bring it in with me. I'll just tell the sales person, these are my notes.
a sale and a discount may be 2 separate things.....but it doesn't seem fair to deactivate you for that.
Asking for a discount is required. I see how you may have thought it was not necessary, since they brought it up and there was also signage about discounts. But they still want you to ask something like: "Is this really the best price you can give me?" Or: "Can I get an additional discount by paying cash?" But, I do not get why they deactivated you for that. I thought they just took points off for missing that. I would ask specifically why the deactivation. There could be other things that brought the score very low on both the furniture and the bank shop. Maybe they thought you did not care anymore and were not trying your best, since you received 8's on your other reports. Just get to the bottom of it. I mean, how else will you be able to learn if they do not tell you. I found them to be very nice people and they do treat people with respect, so just be the same with them. Not that you were not respectful, just mentioning what I know of them.
It just seemed strange after getting 7's 8's and 9's on all my other reports, to suddenly be dropped. That is just a little too picky. I have many other shops I do, so losing this one isn't a big deal. Someone else, on another post, mentioned they may have gotten another editor. They've done shops with them for years and always got high marks. All of a sudden they were discounting his reports too.
I would still try to get the facts. All the facts, before writing them off. I thought Karin Williams did the editing. But, I also think she has a say in reactivating. I personally would want to know if it was me. You do not want it happening somewhere else if it is something you are not understanding.
I just find it sad, they would just deactivate someone's account over something this petty. I had 7's, 8's and 9's....than suddenly I have my account deactivated, with no notice. If anything, they should have had the courtesy of telling me the reason.
There is a whole thread on Volition as to how frequently shoppers are deactivated by service check.
I did a shop recently where the answers to required questions were posted everywhere. It was something I ignored. I asked the questions. They don't want to know if the store promotes it because it is evaluation of the sales person at their job. If they ignore signs, it is different. I would report the information they give me. If someone brings something specific up first like a particular feature or promotion, it is different than a discount. They are being evaluated based on how well they understand and follow through with the discount intended by the company.

Brilliant. Anyway, they deactivated you. Nothing to worry about.

Sales are not discounts. They wanted you to ask for a discount. For example: "Can you take off an extra 5% if I pay with cash?"

7's, 8's and 9's are not "high scores" just so you know. If you do everything correctly, you can count on a 9 from them, perhaps a 10. If they are giving you 7's more than 10% of the time, that's not a high average. One of their clients requires a 10 average to self-assign. I have shopped for them for over 14 years. I would not do that furniture shop again for $50.

Confero is the worst about giving out 10's in my opinion.
I'm just surprised they deactivated my account for just disagreeing with them. They will lose a lot of good Mystery Shoppers.
I like working for Service Check. I have received 10 on all my furniture reports. I agree that 7 & 8 are not good scores. 9 is not bad though.

It sounds as though they deactivated the account because the OP had 7s and 8s and then did two shops that were not usable rather than because the OP disagreed with them. Two unusable reports means it required them to reschedule, sending another shopper to complete the shop, then review that shopper's report. That's double work for their scheduler and their editor. Twice.

I've worked for Service Check for years, and they count off if the editor has to make a lot of edits/changes and/or request information. It's true that 7s, 8s, and 9s all pay the same, but those who consistently receive 7s and 8s are not as valued by the MSC as ICs because their work is far more time-consuming. Some MSCs drop those shoppers whose scores are lower than the what they deem acceptable.

What I'm understanding is that the OP did 6 shops for them with 7s, 8s, and 9s. Then he did a furniture shop and a bank shop and both were rejected. So, out of a total of 8 shops, two were rejected and had to be rescheduled with another shopper. Six out of 8 is a 75% success rate, and the successful shops included 7 and 8 scores.

I would probably contact them and ask, mostly as a learning experience. This is a company that usually gives reasonably good feedback after they grade reports. They would probably give good feedback about the deactivation. There are lots of other MSCs to work for. It's good experience.

edited because even with spell checker I still can't spell.

I got 7, 8 and 9's on all of my reports...I got paid for ALL of them. No mention of deactivating my account, no warning. If they're going to only keep 10's, they will lose a lot of good people. No one is perfect.

Low scores prevent you from getting the higher paying jobs.

I don't see any higher paying jobs on any of the sites, for getting 7, 8, or 8. They all pay the same. Also it depends on who's doing the editing. I've written reports for other sites and got 10's....the same report for another site get's a 7, 8 or 9.

The point here is that there is a lot of competition for jobs. Service Check has a lot of available shoppers. The most successful ones score 9s and 10s on their reports. Service Check can afford to lose the ones who consistently score less than they deem acceptable. Why would a company not cut some ICs if they find their reports more time-consuming?

I'm not surprised that you do not see any higher paying jobs on any of the sites. Many of the higher-paying jobs are shops that are not necessarily available on the job boards. Many are shops offered directly to particular shoppers who have a proven track record with a history of success and high scores.

Which editor edits a particular report sometimes means a higher or lower score, but there are reasons to strive for 9s and 10s.
