In my experience unless the soda machine is only dispensing water you can not just get "a cup of water". You have to buy a soda or something from the cooler. If the machine is totally broken ie not active at all you have to just eat the extra bit of cost for a bottle of water or Izze. Slight hazard of the job.

FWIW "pay" depends on what you order, but I average about 16 in pocket per assignment.

What state are you in? Even in the most downtown of downtown areas, I was always able to request and receive a water cup at every single Chipotle location I've ever been to....

It is possible to get a cup of water at a chipotle, it just doesn't fit the requirements in some areas.

Yes, definitely check the guidelines. Sometimes it tells me I must order a fountain drink in addition to my burrito and chips. Sometimes it doesn't, which is when I get a cup of water for free. Sometimes it makes you order salsa for your chips, sometimes it doesn't.
They make really good fresh brewed iced tea. I even squeeze a fresh lemon in it each time. I get three refills and the visits to the drink station allow me to interact or observe the line again to soak up the tattoos and piercings. The editor for my region wants descriptions. I have always been required to purchase a drink. The program must be different depending on your region.

I either get water (the free one!) or the iced tea. It IS good, especially with the lemon in it. In my region, it's never been a shop requirement to get a drink. Since I don't drink soda, I'm glad they have the unsweetened tea as an option.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
Assuming we're talking about Chipotle's MSC, I received input from their scheduler and other long-time shoppers. All order requirements and Knowledge Questions (where any additional purchases would be specified) are the same regardless of region. In other words, an entree and chips is the minimum order requirement, unless a special purchase instruction is given for that month via Knowledge Question.

Sorry, we got crossed up. You can always get a free water cup. That's generally in the local health codes. Apparently I misread the requirements for the shops, or they changed at some point as I though you HAD to order a drink. Apparently only a meal and chips.
When I did my training about two years ago a meal, chips, and a drink were all required. It was explained at the time they wanted three items as that is what is supposed to trigger the cashier or expo to give you a tray. If that has been changed then I am not aware of it. Doesn't matter to me as I can't stand drinking water anyway.

A water cup can be considered a 'third item' with the entree and chips to trigger the tray the expo / cashier is required to provide without prompt.

I'm surprised there is any confusion over whether a drink is required or not. Each shop has guidelines that clearly state what needs to be purchased. This is stated with each email assignment and also on the website. In my area of California, a paid drink has not been required for as long as I have been a shopper; nearly five years.

Agreed; however, I didn't want to dispute any information posted here as I've only been shopping for the MSC for about 1.5 years. When any poster state their experiences with an MSC, I hold back from disputing it unless I know absolutely sure what's right or wrong. In this case, I received input from the schedulers and editors of the MSC on the topic, as some posters inquired about it and to avoid any more confusion and misleading information floating around here for the Chipotle shops and its MSC.

I just did the Chipotle training and haven't signed up for a shop yet. Does anyone know if we are allowed to pay with gift cards? Just curious because I have a $50 Chipotle gift card and I'm wanting to know if I should use it up now or just save it for the shops.
You can use gift cards. Ask your scheduler about joining the private Facebook page for Chipotle shoppers. It's a great place to ask questions.

I'm surprised that for the lunch shops you can arrive at 11:00. That is when they open. I did that once, not realizing that they opened at 11:00. I was the first person in line, all the food items were fresh and appetizing in appearance, there was no cross-over in the pans, and the dining room was spotless. It made for an easy report!
Arriving at opening can cause other issues as the line is not running yet. Imagine having one crew member walk your order down the entire line and they are tortilla #1 all the way to salsa #2. Then all the other crew members fall into the line and you were the only person this happened to. Also, don't assume the dining room will be in pristine condition because they just opened. They will use the dining room to fill the chip bags and even as a temporary place to store pans before they drop them on the line and have spilled chips all over the place and not cleaned them up.

I did a few stand at the door and they didn't open on time and reported that as well. Don't be the first one in line at the door. If I go at 11:00, I'll wait until 11:05 and let the first "wave" of people waiting go through first.

This shouldn't be an issue, at least with this client and MSC. Or were you advised to "not" be the first customer in the restaurant by the MSC?

I used to be an editor for them. They don't like you to do anything that would make you stand out as the shopper. For example, you can't say "women's restroom" because that identifies your gender. You also aren't supposed to make reference to where you sat in the dining room, if you were with someone else (always write as if you were alone), etc.

But would detailing that one crew member assembled your order, then the more crew members joining the line really make you stand out though? I guess if you word to make it obvious, "I was the first customer in the restaurant," then maybe....

Does anybody know if they pay more for airport locations?

The instructions don't mention that you can't be the first customer. Actually, I've done a few Chipotle shops around dinner time where there was only one crew member for both Tortilla and Salsa, so arriving as one of the first customers does not make your report stand out.
I have done a Chipotle before when one person took me all the way from tortilla to the cashier. Easiest Chipotle report I've ever done.

I've done several where one person takes me down the entire line. It doesn't happen just at opening; it could be any time the restaurant is slow.

Thank you! I didn't know about the Facebook page. I'll ask about it.

I don't see why having one person building your burrito would be a problem. Sounds a lot easier that way, but I'll wait to see the guidelines. If they have chip remnants on the tables from bagging them there then they deserve to be dinged. They should be ready when it's time to open. When I did my training they started taking customers at 10:30 which I thought was odd. About 5 people showed up between 9 and 10 AM trying to order food, but they told them they weren't open yet. I don't think I would want Chipotle that early in the morning!

The question was asked on the Facebook page but by a different shopper.

I've had one person do my whole order in past, I've had 6. Just report who was there and did what to your order. As long as you're inside the time guidelines there's no problem with the number of crew members. However many they have is however many they have. Some locations are only fully staffed some of the times, other times crew members don't come in. Just report what you observe, and leave a note for the editor and/or .email your assigner if need be,
I don't think it's a problem doing the shop right when they open. It's within the required time frames. In fact, I did one yesterday in which I arrived at 11:06 AM and was the first customer. The restroom was dirty and out of paper towels, there was excessive food spillage on the counter, and the parking lot was littered with Halloween candy wrappers, straws and other litter. So, arriving as the first customer really doesn't make a difference.

No need to worry, gift cards ARE acceptable to use.

I just saw on the job section here that Chipotle shops are ranging from $27-30 in the San Francisco area. I hope they are considering raising the fee across the board or at least in metro areas.
