Anyone dealt with them?

I completed a shop for them on 02/05/2010 and never received payment. I sent an email inquiring about payment and got a reply saying simply, "Your payment was sent to Pay Pal on 03-15-10."

I checked PayPal to make sure I hadn't missed it and indeed I had not missed it. There was no such payment. I wrote back to them and said, "Thanks for your reply, but payment was not received in my PayPal account for this shop. Can you please check again and see to whom the payment may have been erroneously sent? It was not sent to me."

No reply. Crickets chirping. No reply...

I finally called them and got the, "That department is at lunch" answer last week. Today I finally reached Judy Harza, the Billing Coordinator, on the phone. She seemed extremely annoyed that I would dare to call and asked for payment and snapped at me, "It takes 3-5 weeks to get it returned from PayPal." I still don't know what that means, and it isn't MY fault that they (a) didn't send it at all, or (b) sent it to the wrong person. All my information on their site was up to date including my valid PayPal address to which I receive all my other payments. I asked what exactly that means and she snapped again, "IT TAKES 3-5 WEEKS! AND THEN WE'LL SEND YOU A CHECK!"

Wow!

That is weird, and disconcerting, for sure.

I haven't ever faced a returned payment issue with Paypal from any company (though I did have to wrangle with PayPal over a non-delivering E bayer seller back in 2003.)

I have never actually spoken with anyone at Jancyn, so I don't know if they are polite or rude, either. But my personal experience with them is that I do 4 or more shops per month for them and the two schedulers I deal with are extremely prompt with email responses (at least for the very few instances that I have ever needed to contact them, or they me) and I have always been paid like clockwork by them.

I haven't worked with them in a long time and it was with schedulers. I simply dropped the scheduler a line when the payment came in without a bonus and within hours the bonus showed up in Paypal showing that it came from her. No idea how that works/worked, but it did and it was fine. Otherwise I have never chased them.

I did have a go round with a misdirected payment with another company when I first got started. They claimed they had sent and I had cashed checks. They checked SS# and discovered they had sent payment to another shopper with a similar name. Ooops. Accidents happen. I got payment within a few days.
The fact is - I'm an idiot! I had .cm instead of .com listed as my PayPal address. Judy sent me an email letting me know that.
Hmmm. And I guess they just did a copy/paste rather than see the error . . . of course I'm surprised Paypal didn't immediately reject the payment as 'no such account'.
It kind of cuts your faith in PayPal, huh? (I'm not crazy about PayPal....LOL..although I use it to get paid and to buy on ebay.

Re Jancyn, I have only one shop I do for them every other month, a kolache shop. Love it. Kolaches are to-die-for good. They are easy to work for, shops are self assign, directions pretty good, reports reasonable and easy, and I have never heard anything back from them. They have always paid me on time through PayPal. They have several other shops in my area but the others require a purchase/return for a low fee - I don't like returns; I might be tempted but not for the low fee offered for the shops.
AM, what is a "kolache"? :-)

Oh, dee, you are missing out BIG-time. A kolache is like a croissant only smaller and more of a roll. It can be flat with fruit or cheese like a sweetroll or, my favorites, are round and filled - with ham and cheese, turkey, roast beef, etc., baked in the middle of it. The little ones are about the size of your fist. Also have some filled with sausage and eggs, etc., breakfast stuff. The place here serves also serves croissants, they are about 3 times the size of the kolache. Absolutely heavenly.
Yum!!!! Sounds good. I'm going with you for your next kolache shop! :-)

After reading the mostly good reviews here, I signed up with Jancyn and did 1 shop for them last month. I received payment for it today. Unfortunately, payment was incorrect, by a lot. I've emailed the billings dept to find out why.

Makes me glad I only did 1 shop for them and can only hope that I get paid the correct amount. This company is now in my gray-zone, which sits very close to my sh!t list.

I hope I'm able to post again to say it was a misunderstanding and all my monies have been received. Wish me luck!

Paypal does not usually do that. Paypal will let the money sit there indefinitely as they earn interest on it.

I am cautiously using Paypal again in order to get paid, but they really are the shadiest of the shady.
Obviously difference of opinion. I love them and have never had any issues with them. While I would prefer direct deposit, there are some companies I am not comfortable enough with to share that information. I certainly do NOT like checks because all to often we play "the check is in the mail" games.
I think Paypal is terrific as long as there is never a problem. But once there is, it can take years (seriously years) to get it worked out.

I think most of the time that people have issues with Paypal though is when they use it as a seller. I know of far tooo many sellers who have been completely ripped off by Paypal to be able to pass it off as the seller's fault. But for accepting payments from MSPs, they seem safe enough.
And certainly accepting payments from MSPs are what we are looking at doing here. Whether you access your funds with a debit card or transfer them on to your bank, they seem reasonably competent.
They have seemed reasonably competent for that. I just have learned far too many of their business practices to be able to consider them an honest company. But luckily for just MS payments, they have been working out well. I avoided them for a few years of shopping, but finally gave in. winking smiley
I love Jancyn !!!

They were one of the 1st MSCs to give me a chance, and continue to be among the 1st to give me a chance with other "types" of shops, and other aspects of shopping, as in audits, sizing, etc.

While their pay is a bit lower than many of the MSC's in my area; Jancyn makes up for that with short, easy reports, a wonderful self-assign job board, and among the friendliest schedulers and editors that I've dealt with; they actually thank you and compliment your work !!!!

The best part is that I was paid on schedule... well, I didn't look at the schedule, but I was paid 30 days out, which is not bad considering so many are 60 days.

Bottom line .... Jancyn gets a big 2 thumbs up in my book

Re: Pay Pal

Seems like this is a 2 parter, so I'll include my question on Pay Pal -- which should really go in the pay pal section...I know, but I'm late and afraid I'll never ask.

Does Pay Pal charge to transfer the money into your bank, debit or credit card accounts?

I understand the charge to verify the accounts; that's reimbursed. However, I'm also noticed a $1 charge from Pay Pal the same day I transfered money.
I thought I read the site throughly, but can't find any charges associated with a transfer. I thought they made their money ( in my case) from the MSC who deposits money into my account.

Did I miss something?
No, they do not charge. The key MAY be in the terminology you're using and/or how the money is tagged. (PayPal WILL charge a fee if it's marked as an exchange of goods.) The other possibility (terminology reference) is that once the money is in your PayPal account, it should be "withdrawn" to your bank account, not "transferred". It does give you both a withdrawal and transfer option -- make sure you're using withdraw.
I believe there are ATM charges if you use their debit card to access your funds.

I have the most basic Paypal account. When I withdraw money to my verified bank account there is no fee. The money takes 3-4 business days to hit my bank account. I have never been charged a fee with Paypal vis-a-vis mystery shop money, though I understand that there is a fee with Corporate Research payments to Paypal. Whether it is charged by Corporate Research or Paypal I could not be sure. I suspect it is charged by Corporate Research.

I gather from some previous posts on the forum that if a company pays us and does it incorrectly, there can be fees that appear. I have not personally experienced it in the 5 years or so of being paid through Paypal.
If a company uses certain types of payments on Paypal, the payee will be charged a fee by Paypal. It is not necessarily that they are paying "incorrectly", but it does depend on how they set it up. I have been-Freeman did it to me. A couple of others have too. Then, yes, there are those like CoRI, who since there are fees involved in them paying using paypal, they deduct the fee they are charged from the shopper pay. How low can ya go, with the fees they pay?

Yes, CoRI's practice is about as insulting as Ritter charging $15 to replace a "lost check" they claim to have sent but you never received.
I'm 99.9% that I hit "Withdraw" to move the money into (in this case) my bank account. I linked my debit and credit card to eliminate the $500 monthly max, but don't think I did anything to generate the $1 fee. I'll wait a few days to see if it's returned, like the $1.95 charge. If not, I guess I can contest the charge, if it's legitimate, they'll tell me.

On a related note:

Am I the only person who didn't know that credit (crook cards) cards can be dangerous to use for purchase / return shops. Who would have thought that a credit for an item returned 20 minutes after the purchase can take a week to process, when the charge is processed immediately, which in my case put me over my limit. Talk about insulting !!!!!!
I guess you are the only one.

I certainly had not considered the possibility of hitting over limit due to slow credit back to your account. But then I pay off my cards monthly and the credit limits are so absurdly high that I never even get close to maxing them even with major purchases. But what I do find important is knowing the cut off dates for your cards. If my cut off date is the 12th, it is safe to use the card for a purchase/return on the 13th through about the 5th so that the debit and credit hit in the same month and cancel each other.

FYI, I received the balance owed to me today. All is well.
I got paid today for a shop done in late June. I do like their payment schedule. :-)

I have just withdrawn funds from PayPal. "Transfer to Bank Account" can only be selected after first selecting "Withdraw".
Just thought I would add that this was on my payment via Paypal from them this evening, though I have always been paid via Paypal and never had any issues with Jancyn and Paypal payments, myself.
