I believe that many companies use PayPal because it is less expensive (no paper check, no bank transaction fees, no envelope, no stamp, no need to hire someone to put the check into the envelope, etc.) and easier (many of the same reasons, plus they are not required to send out a 1099 form at the end of the year since that task gets passed onto PayPal). Yes, the MSC has to pay a fee to PayPal in order to pay you, but I am sure that the economics must favor using PayPal for many MSCs or they wouldn't be doing it. I have a PayPal Business Debit card, so I have instant access to funds and I get 1% back when I used it as a credit card. I never have to worry about a check getting lost, or a check getting stale because I forget to deposit it. [The issue of when PayPal is required to send out a 1099 form has been discussed many times on this Forum; suffice it to say that the regulation they have to follow has an aggregated payment threshold that is so high that I have never gotten a 1099 from them.]
