NSS (National Shopping Service)

I searched through the forum and did not see any posts regarding this company recently.

NSS gives shoppers a choice of being paid through PayPal or a paper check mailed. I choose PayPal. They pay at the end of the month, following the month the work was completed and accepted.

September shops are paid at the end of October.
October shops are paid at the end of November.

I received payment for September.

I have NOT received payment for October. I have called (the week before Christmas) - no one is available to talk on the phone. Ok, I understand that - holidays and all. I have emailed the accounting department twice this month (two weeks before Christmas and the week of Christmas). So far, no response.

Has anyone else had a problem being paid for October 2016?

I'm very surprised, I have worked for them for years and still get a check. They recently added Paypal, and I heard it can be slower. I was paid in almost 6 weeks, few days longer with checks, but always paid. You can write to payroll, Paul is my scheduler and someone always answers the phone, they prefer working that way, emails sometimes go unread. I received Oct. pay check by mail.

If you started with paper check and changed to PP then this might explain the delay. Have you called them?
I switched to PayPal when they first offered it.

Paypal transfers funds in one business day now. It does not take the 4-6 weeks plus that NSS claimed. I've called them on that before and the accounting department acknowledged that it is does not take 4-6 weeks via PayPal.

When NSS (or any other company or person) tells PayPal to send money to someone else, that someone else gets an email notification immediately of the transaction. The money has always arrived within minutes of the PayPal email notification.

Regarding October 2016 pay, I have not received a notification from PayPal or from NSS. According to NSS records, they already processed the payment for October and November. (I have learned from from the past, that the NSS system showing the payment has been processed does not mean it has been sent out via paper check or via PayPal.)

It's unusual for the payment to be this late (still not received for October shops) and for the accounting guy to not to respond to my emails. That's why I jumped on the forums, searched, and then posted. I wanted to know if anyone else has any information.

Does anyone on the forums get paid by PayPal from NSS? Have you received October payment?

Yes, I have called the company multiple times during the week before Christmas. No answer. Always straight to voicemail. Which is unusual too.
I talked to them when they first switched to using Paypal and they said it would take longer than a check would take. Since every other company I deal with that uses Paypal has figured out how to get the checks out faster I wondered why their paypal was so slow. Evidently whoever set it up in their company did not yet know how best to do it. I suggested they check with another msc who uses paypal and decided to stay with a check until they figure it out. Sounds like they still have not figured it out.

I sent an email yesterday AM. Had not done a job for them in a while but I do recall it took a long time to be paid. I get checks from them but noticed I have PayPal info under my profile.
Yeah, I don't think they totally understood how PayPal works in the beginning. I don't think they realized that they would be charged a small fee to send some payments. When they realized it, they encouraged everyone to go back to paper checks. (My theory.)

When they send a PayPal payment to anyone, if the funds are not already in their PayPal account, then it PayPal withdraws it from their bank account (that is linked to their PayPal profile). That could take one business day. Then the money is sent to our paypal accounts.

Madetoshop - please let me know when/if you hear back from NSS and what they said. Starting tomorrow, I will be back on the phone trying to reach a live person to figure this out.

sandy - yeah, PayPal is overall, hands down, faster than paper checks when the payment is processed the same day that checks are cut. My educated guess is that NSS just wasn't prepared to pay out that fast. There's a lot of float time when paper checks go out...mail time...people don't receive them...people don't cash the checks right away...people forget to look for/watch for that check in the mail....if they do notice it hasn't arrived, it takes weeks for another paper check to be cut and sent... with PayPal, the funds have to be there immediately to process payment.

I wanted to say to the OP, to check the home page alert on top of the page...if you have an alert, you need to
call them, that will hold up payment. They had trouble this year while adding paypal and fees were delayed. I read about it on the forum and decided not to change. I have worked for them for ten years
with no problem of getting my check, so, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. They now say Paypal is working,'
so again, check the alert first. I'm sure the holidays held them up, call tomorrow.

I also have the paypal payment option with NSS. I was waiting for my September shops payment on November 28, and sent them an email and got paid the same day, without a reply to the mail though. Still waiting for October payments. I will probably send them a message today or tomorrow. I hope they get back to being reliable payers. Chasing payments turns a company I'm eager to work for to one that I avoid.

Yes, ijdk. I will let you know if I hear back from them. I was checking my year end shops and noticed this was the only one very late/outstanding.

I have not been paid for my October shop. Looking at my two previous shops, one took over 2 months (PP), and the other took one month (DD).

Update - I reached a live person at NSS this morning. The person instantly knew that I was inquiring about the October payment. I received the weak verbal response of "well, it might be PayPal..." Nope. It's not. In the past NSS has authorized a PayPal payment, told me via email, PayPal emailed me within a minute, money was received in my PayPal account within a minute.

Per the live person, the accounting guy (Jericho) does not actually come into the office. He works offsite. NSS recommended emailing him as the best way to reach him. accounting@nationalshoppingservice.com

Jericho still has not responded to my emails. sad smiley

Irene_L.A. - I have repeatedly checked the website to see if any reports were held up (none were), there were no flags, there were no concerns, there were no issues, and no alerts. I usually do that before I start sending emails just to make sure that the balls not in my court.

HonnyBrown - I checked the website (NSS) again to see what the payment options were. I didn't see direct deposit as an option. Only paper check and PayPal. Do you know if direct deposit is an option that you have to ask for?

To all - I agree that NSS has been a great company to work for in the past. I have been with them for more than 10 years. Only one other time (and it was earlier this year) I had to chase down a payment.

I hope this was just an honest mistake and not a trend by the company.

To all that haven't received payment for October, please keep updating this thread.

I would say they are having a problem with Paypal...it always takes them close to 6 weeks to pay., and with the holidays and slow mail, will take longer. I got my check for a job done Nov. 1st. it was a bit late, but considering the holiday mail, I didn't worry. They always pay,

I have only been paid by check in the past and they usually took 2 months if I recall correctly. IJDK, I emailed Jericho and will keep you posted.
I just received an email from Paul asking me to do a job, so, there up and working..call them now.

It's great that you have been paid for a job you did you completed November 1, 2016. I am still waiting to get paid for work done BEFORE November 1, 2016. Still waiting for November pay too. smiling smiley

And still no word from Jericho or NSS regarding the missing pay. sad smiley
Update - I received an email from PayPal that a payment has been made by NSS. Looks like it is the payment for October 2016. The November 2016 is now due.

Still, Jericho has not responded to my multiple emails or to my telephone messages (left with NSS).

To the other shoppers that were waiting on October 2016 payments, did you receive payment today via email?
I emailed one of the schedulers yesterday, and received my payment today.

NSS is on the MSC 10 foot pole list with Cirrus. Why do people do their shops when IS offers the same shop with bonuses, and they pay quicker?

I received my payment today via paypal for my October shops. Also Jericho replied to my inquiry in a professional manner within 24 hours to the email I sent on Monday. However, that reply did not address specifically my questions, that being when I should expect payment for October. Still glad to see the payment come through today, as well as the other shoppers I see here that got their payments.

Also, I've always had better luck with inquiries like this by emailing help@nationalshoppingservice.com rather than a scheduler.

Got paid today. Way too long. I emailed help@blahblah. No response! Emailed Jericho thanks to ijdk and got paid.
I am glad others were paid for October 2016 too. smiling smiley

PaulinMI - it's great that Jericho responded to your email. He still has not responded to any of my emails. I had asked when I could expect October 2016 payments.

Irene_L.A. has already been paid for November 2016.

Now, we gotta chase down November 2016 payments. Tomorrow (Friday, December 30, 2016) is the last business day for Jericho to PayPal the payments for those of us who choose PayPal.

I hope this is just a one time "oops" with NSS.

And KUDOS to the MSC that inform their shoppers when there is going to be a delay with payments. I don't like the delay, but I respect you for having the courage to let us know.
ijdk, I think 2+ months is par for the PayPal course with them. I did an audit in August, and got paid, by PayPal, at the end of October.

Maybe you should edit out the incorrect information in your original post response so it does not confuse other forum members.
I have usually been past the month following the month the work was completed. So if the work was done in September, I would be paid in October. If the work was done in October, then I would be paid in November. If I did the work in November, I would be paid in December. Always end of the month.

I say usually, because I cannot say for sure, that since I started working for them for than a decade ago, that they always paid the next month. I am pretty sure they did. And they most certainly have this year, even with PayPal.
ijdk, thanks! I've done three or four shops for them this year. Two were PP and one was check. That's all I have to go on.
