Gosh, that seems really stupid on the editor's part. Sending a report back because it wasn't in the order they wanted and you double spaced, and they want YOU to fix it? It's called job security, editor. It's your job to fix it. As long as all of the necessary information is there they should not return the shop to you to re-do. For crying out loud, how hard is it to take out one of the spaces?!!!!

When the instructions are stated, yes, the shopper should follow them. It actually takes quite a bit of time to make those corrections. Do you have any idea of the tiny amount of money an editor makes per edit? Way less than you might think.

As a whole, my problems with editors have been minor. When their issues do arise, I just sigh and do as they ask. If it becomes a recurring thing, I'll avoid the particular shop and keep the circumstance in my mind as why I hesitate to perform the shop.
The same goes for the shops where the owner or attendant/employee is not customer friendly or complains later about my report or a particular narrative of the report. I give them three chances (meaning three shop periods). If after the third time I still hear some complaint of any sort, I remove the shop from my list of shops I'll perform.

Why put yourself through that stress?
@Jamisan, I couldn't agree more because as I stated it happened and I don't normally have problems with Editors. I as well got a 7 and the fee for this job that ended up taking 2 hours with re-writes was $7.00 plus your 10.00 reimbursement. For those that haven't done this job, try it, I dare you. My first silent response to myself,
was put the report where the sun don't shine....but I finished it and got paid, oh did I mention, they are one of the longest paying MSC's......hopefully, they'll read this and remove the person. I would still do the shop as it is
close to me, having two in my town, and, I always find something (food) to buy.

Live consciously....

Why yes, Jamie, I actually do. I have been an editor for two different MSCs. Both of those companies valued their shoppers a great deal more than Service Check, apparently. But, I found editing tedious and not worth the pay. I certainly never felt the need to make a shopper feel embarrassed or ashamed, and if all of the required information was there, I fixed the report and sent it on to the client. I never sent the report back to a shopper for corrections unless something was not clear or if some of the required information was missing.

So! I guess you cannot fire back an email that suggests that they do the job that they were hired to do.

I usually do a certain Service Check shop once a month or so and donate the products purchased to a local rescue. A few months ago I had multiple problems with an editor requesting vague changes to a narrative and addition of other information that did not follow the guidelines or written sample. I told myself I'd give them one more chance and stop doing the jobs if I have any more problems.

This month I unexpectedly did three locations, the first two with no problems early in the month. The third, completed last week, just came back scored as an 8. The editor admonishing me for the narrative needing to be more elaborate, not summarized... except that is the format and example they give to follow and I receive 10's on regularly. Honestly, I can't tell if the editor doesn't like me or has an issue with the writing requirement/sample for the job. The nice part about being an IC is I don't have to figure it out, I can move on. Maybe come back to the jobs in a few months and see if the MSC gets things settled.

I had to give up on them a while ago because of the editors and wanting an extraordinary amount of narrative for a minuscule amount of pay.

Motivation increases when we assume large responsibilities with a short deadline.
I stopped shopping for Service Check for the same reason. They asked me few simple questions to clarify and I got a 7. I figured they didn't want me shopping for them.
I find this discussion interesting in that this MSC criticized me for providing TOO MUCH DETAIL. After one job, I have moved on. Other MSCs appreciate detailed reports.

The client I did most for SC moved. Now it offers about 3/4 of the pay and requires more work (including photos.) No thank you.
