You can do the GFK audits, and get paid, without ever shadowing anyone. It’s just an option for those who want to see what it’s like before committing. Kinda like living with your SO before you decide if you really want to pop for a ring ????

My glass is nearly full, thank you very much. Which is why I do not allow companies to take advantage of me. Had Chili's, and other companies that pay a nominal fee for phone training, not paid, I would never had evaluated the burritos and service. There are in fact people who view a glass as half full while others view the same glass as half empty. The same can be said about a gas tank. Stating such is not passive-aggressive. Let's knock off the social crusading and wild accusations. It's distasteful, and, to use the term previously mentioned, it's passive-aggressive. It's funny that those who point fingers in their posts and call others passive-aggressive and argue with the rights of others to express themselves are often actually the passive-aggressive ones.
Social crusading. Wild accusations? That's pretty sensational. Is that how your reports are written? Sensationalization is key? A little dose of injection of defensiveness of others is how you get your jollys?
Sure is difficult not to get attacked on this website for defending your industry. Must be the people that are employees of these companies that would defend a companies desire not to pay for work.
I can not believe that even 1 single person would think this is ok. But, here we have about 6.
Actually, I don't know about other posters on the thread, but I am not only not an employee of any of the MSCs, I don't even work for GFK and never have. As to the original subject being discussed, I don't have a dog in the hunt. I simply find some posts in the thread distasteful.
So. Your choice is not to participate in the conversation about whether or not someone should work for free, for this msc or any and make a positive contribution to the forum and to this thread. Instead, you've just come here to double down on a position that was taken against the poster, rather than the subject of the poster. I see. We all have ways we like to spend our free time, I guess.
I've come here to express my opinion as is my right. As is yours. Do you believe only you have the right to express yourself and that anyone whose opinion does not mesh with yours has no right to post? However - we do agree on one thing -- "We all have ways we like to spend our free time." It's clear how you choose to spend your free time. I'm not going to waste my time continuing to feed you. I'm sure someone else will and it will keep you posting and busy and happy.

Nobody is saying there is anything wrong with the thread you started. We are just stating our opinions. Some people agree with you. Some people disagree with you. That happens a lot in life. What I personally have a problem with is that you are being overly dramatic and calling people names.
I get that you are in shock that not everyone agrees with you (but if you go back and look, there are several people that do agree with you). The best way to create change though is not to freak out and mudsling on a message board but rather to not work for GFK.
I don't work for a MSC. I also don't work for GFK. I also find their email about arranging an opportunity to shadow auditors to be perfectly acceptable. Now do I find the pay structure of these audits to be perfectly acceptable for me in my personal situation? - no, not for me. But that's not what this post is about. This post is about offering "free" OPTIONAL training to potential ICs.

You know, I agreed with your original post. However, this thread has gone completely off the rails and now you are reporting posts that are not really report worthy. They are just disagreeing with you. Yeah maybe "poor facebook pages" is off topic and needless but so is reporting it. You really can't expect to come to a public forum and have everyone agree with your point of view. You are well spoken and could contribute a lot if you would just learn not to be quite so prickly. 
Years ago Maritz started doing a gas station audit. One of their employees did the training and anybody who wanted to go to the training got paid for the training.
It is not the disagreements with my opinion that I reported. It is the personal remarks meant to make me look bad..
What does hahahahaha I quit last week too much crazy for my taste have to do with anything except to make a person look bad. I have seen this guy do this many times to people on this forum? What happened last week that they "tried to do"? Is he the designated "tried to do-er?". Why are the other remarks that he makes like this to new posters just put up with? He gets to just pop on to someone's thread just to slight them, all while sitting behind a computer screen and no one says anything? If you read the thread, I did not cause it to go off the rails but I will not be quieted when someone does this to me, I don't care if they make $300 an hour or just get a burger in this business.

Mintel paid me for my time to mentor a new auditor. I accompanied him to the first of his stores, walked him through the process, and stayed a few hours to make any corrections he needed. He was doing multiple stores and they must have decided it was worth the extra few dollars to have it done right the first time. It saves money on the other end. I think GFK would benefit from doing the same.

Mintel is a class act. GFK should follow their example. I rarely even bother negotiating bonuses with Mintel because their pay is so very fair most of the time.
GFK was one of the first MSC's I ever signed up for. After reading their requirements for doing assignments, I unsigned up for them. An 8 hour audit for no pay is not how I want to spend my time. And all the other requirements didn't help my opinion. If someone is willing to do this, that is their option. I too will stay away but we each must make our own choices.

I am still registered with them. BUT I registered back when they solely did mystery shops and they had a wings shop I was fond of (I always did the carryout, easy peasy). They lost that client and now do the big box store audits, but I am not going to deactivate because I just never know what client they might pick up for mystery shops in the future. Might want to keep that in mind before deactivating with MSCs.
Some of my best projects came from GFK over the years. I never check their job board. They just call or email every couple of years with something amazing.

@op: it sounds like your life works well when you define what you will and will not do and set boundaries around your time and revenue. You are decisive, and this is a wonderful quality. Other posters set the boundary lines in different places in their worlds.They might have different considerations. This is good, too.
I have only one opinion.Thank God that pre-meds and medical students practice for free on cadavers and, for no immediate monetary pay, observe other surgeries. If my *unprintable* leg needs another surgery, it will please me endlessly that an experienced and tested surgeon will perform the work.
