Intellishop CEO Marketing Email - Opinions?

I received an email from Intellishop with information about the CEO's friend who is coming out with a book, asking me to sign up to be notified when the book comes out. Intellishop is offering incentive in the form of a gift card giveaway and free signed books.

To me, this is so disrespectful of a business relationship and is totally out of line. I don't want your Ibotta link, I don't want to buy from Herbalife, I don't need you to peddle me diet teas or self-help books, etc.

MSC, why do you feel it is acceptable to exploit the fact that I gave you my email to be notified about CONTRACT OFFERS?

Shoppers, what are your thoughts? Agree, disagree? Love marketing emails?

I'm personally offended. When my payment was delayed for 3 months, I emailed Ron but didn't get a response. I was informed by intellishop employees that he doesn't read or respond to shoppers emails. So he has time to send out an email about a damn book no one cares about but no time to address why a contractor's invoice has gone unpaid for 3 months?

Like eyelove2shop, I was offended and was one click away from asking this guy not to spam me, but decided it was not worth the effort. I already know he won't read or respond to my email. I just blocked that particular addr and I don't even care if I miss out on future "exciting opportunities".

IMHO, the other shoppers have offered great opinions. For me, I didn't give it any thought. I simply hit the delete button and moved on.

I just thought it wasn't professional. As IC we have a business relationship with his company, nothing more. I'm not his buddy who he can send spam with books he wants me to buy. And adding a sweepstakes to it doesn't make it MS related.

I agree that it was unprofessional. The IC contact list should not be used to solicit or promote products. I immediately deleted it.

Sadly, I think that it is another example of how unprofessional even the principals of MSCs are. Their lack of respect for the shoppers is illustrated by how little they pay. However, since they appear to have no problem finding shoppers, who can blame them for such emails?

I agree. Totally inappropriate. As soon as I read the first 3 or 4 lines, I said, "Oh, brother!", and deleted the whole thing. I agree with all the others who have said that the purpose of our registering with an MSC is to obtain work, NOT to be spammed with marketing offers!!! Shame on them!!!

Thanks for chiming in, y'all. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had a gut reaction to this. Sure wish someone on the MSC side would chime in with another perspective about why this stuff is done!

Surprised by the reaction to this. I didn't have a problem with the email. It'd be different if it was a daily occurrence or done frequently, but its not something that has been done often. Read and delete. No big deal.

To me, the point of disturbance here is that my email was used for SOMETHING OTHER than that for which I signed up! That CEO certainly does not have my permission for me to be spammed with marketing offers!

I got the email (twice) on 10/01 and went directly to this board to see if others were as appalled as I was. Nothing, for 2 days! Thought I was abnormal. Well, maybe I am but at least I am no longer alone in my reaction to this.

Not quite offended, but definitely a WTF? I thought it was some kind of chain marketing scam, but then it was just, "Oh he wants to sell his friend's book." Deleted without further ado.

Well, if I got it five times I would certainly think differently. I only got it once. Since there is a giveaway involved (corny as it may be), it didn't bug me just to get the one.

I also thought this was likely a spam email, since there was no discussion of it here for a few days. Does anyone have an email I can use to send an inquiry? I used the "shopperhelpdesk" link on the IS website, but it bounced back. I do not want to reply directly to the email since my email's aim is to "verify the origin" of what I received. I'm feeling sarcastic enough today to send an innocent email about my concern that I need to know if my email has been hacked because I received a solicitation from a company who purported to be IS. And I am "almost positive it cannot be legitimate since none of my business contacts have ever used their data base in this unprofessional way." Most likely a waste of my time, but perhaps some feedback like this will put a stop to any future solicitation.

The CEO of Intelli-shop is not universally liked in the industry. He is known to be cheap and intolerant.

I agree. I thought the email(s) were something important because they were from the CEO of Intelly. I thought it was unprofessional and tacky.
