Paypal suspended JM Ridgewy

JM Ridgeway told me about the suspension today in an email after I had accepted a self-assigned shop. They say they'll send a check instead. Ridgeway says they don't know why they were suspended. My question: what does it take to get suspended by PayPal? Should we be worried about their financial and/or ethical stability?

It could be a software issue. I had a situation in April with a non-MSC vendor. While the vendor was not suspended, their refund to me was rejected due to a software compatibility problem. PayPal stuck me with the bill and were no help in resolving the issue.

Everything got resolved when the vendor sent me a paper check and I used it to pay PayPal.

I have since minimized my relationship with PayPal. I only use them when I have no other choice.

PayPal can literally suspend you for any reason even if you are a known business. They aren't a bank and don't have to follow really any rules so they get away with everything.
True. PayPal can put a hold on an acct simply because the user exceeded a random threshold, that the user was never made aware of.
Paypal is known for doing stuff like this. I sell on eBay and in the beginning Paypal threatened to suspend my account because they felt I was moving money into my bank account too frequently for a new account. I figured it was money why would I leave it in Paypal and not move it to my bank. I've heard of all sorts of reasons Paypal decides to suspend an account - too many transactions, too many international transactions ....
BVA also sent out an email stating that PayPal suspended their account. The email said it was because The number of the daily transactions they were making
Quite the opposite. They are dealing with people's money. They are regulated by some government entity.

Paypal is going PC. They have recently denied service to companies whose values they do not support. Which is weird considering they're supposed to be a payment platform, not a social justice organization.

No, I would not be worried.

I wonder if they got looked at by some government entity because people were laundering money through them.

While they do have some regulations, it really isn't as much as you think. They are not a bank, nor are they treated like one by any major regulatory agency unless something has changed in the last year. They are basically too big to stop but no one is trying to bring them under control. You are basically saying to them, hey, here is a set of money that I would like you to be my third party with to buy things for me or give to someone else. I know, it really seems like they are breaking some laws but no one is going after them unless you sue them which really hasn't ever worked out great.
Exactly. Even when they had a data breach a few years back, I think their fine was in line with Target and other retailers.

They follow certain banking regulations because they are required to.

When does JMRidgway send paper checks? I've been searching their site and can't find any info on when payment is sent.
Paypal suspends acvounts if fraud is suspected not by the trye owner but by an isp backtrack that doesnt match the account holder. If there is a hack or security breach and sometging quirky is suspected they freeze the account until the owner calls the security center to re establish the account. I had an issue tears ago a person from the ukraine hacked my account and all of my customers had their money returned. I had to redo security. I have been with paypal since they started and while its frustraiting its a safety feature.
