I haven't received a 1099 from Ipsos and i am not sure if I have earned > $600. Is there a way to check in IPSOS how much i earned last year without opening each and every paystub from payment history...

Market force is so easy..I wish Ipsos would have the same. May be it is one of those things which i couldn't find. Please help.

You need to keep track of this information. Look at your deposit history at your bank.

IPSOS is way better than Maritz that has no way of looking back to check your previous shops. I keep a database of all my jobs. I confirm with IPSOS' pay sheet when payments come in to ensure I was properly paid for each job. Even if you made less than $600 you need that info for your taxes and many companies don't offer past pay info like IPSOS or Market Force. There is a nice spreadsheet available in the New Mystery Shoppers area if you aren't using anything. If you were paid through PayPal you could do a search there and see what was deposited from IPSOS last year.

deposit history won't help because it includes shop fee + reimbursements. So I will still have to do lot of math.

MF is so easy , they clearly mention how much we earned and how much was Reimbursements... My 2 cents - These are big companies if they want they can easily make our life easier.

And no, I don't think IPSOS has any way of calculating that, other than checking each pay stub.

There is another thread which discusses this. Because they use PayPal to pay you, they don't have to send you a 1099 form. PayPal is required to issue a 1099K form, but only if "your payment volume exceeds both of these levels in a calendar year:
$20,000 USD in gross payment volume from sales of goods or services in a single calendar year
200 payments for goods or services in the same year" [www.paypal.com]

Interesting. i didn't earn enough with them in 2018 to be "eligible" for a 1099. Other people report not receiving one, so at best they are inconsistent.

Nope, nope, nope.

I am going to get at least 20 x 1099's by companies that pay by PayPal.

Only CSE has the different interpretation of whether or not they need to issue a 1099 for their shoppers who earn over $600 in fees.

So, two options.
CSE is correct. Every other MSC in the business that pays by PayPal is incorrect.

I'm going with the odds on this one. My CPA (not H & R Block, but a real CPA) just declared the income for me. I had to go through pages and pages of PayPal payments and then cross-reference them with the shop log. Now that I am back to work, I don't do so much for them anymore.

PayPal will send you the 1099 if you sell enough on eBay. It happened to me a few years ago. I also got audited that year. (I had been using a different CPA who was certified looney-tunes - but it was a good 20 year run with no audits and super low fees.) My fancy (sadly expensive) CPA took care of everything for the audit.

ETA: IPSOS messed up the 1099's by adding the reimbursements one year (last year or two years ago). They had to reissue them all. They probably won't make that mistake again.

I always earn more than $600 with IPSOS, so I got mine already. Even if I made less than $600, I would have to go to the "pay stubs" and declare the fees (because prison is yucky, and I have certifications and licenses that I'd like to keep in real life).

Print out your pay history for 2018 by pay period (you're going to need to keep this for your tax records anyway.) It's broken out by fee and reimbursement. Easy-peasy.

I also received a 1099 from them. I find their pay statements really well laid out and easy to follow.

You just need to look at all your pay sheets. It breaks out the reimbursement vs fee.

If you click on payment history in paypal a search box will pop up and you can search for ipsos. It will give you all the payments you received from them for the time period you specified. Remember to ask for Jan 2019 as payments from 2018 might be in there. Unfortunately this does not break it down by reimbursements and fees but hopefully you have kept track of that yourself along with your mileage. If you kept your scanned receipts somewhere you can probably sort that by msc as well to help out.

If you are using the Cash (not Accrual) Method of accounting, search for January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018. Payments received in 2019 do not count as 2018 under the Cash Method. HOWEVER, if you are using the Accrual Method, then you need to record income that you earned (even if not received) at any point in 2018. Searching PayPal will be of limited value if you elected to use the Accrual Method of accounting.

In the best of worlds us mystery shoppers will have a good method of keeping our own track. Thanks for that added clarification myst4au. Payments from Dec will prob be listed in January so it means just checking those few months (Jan 2018 to delete '17 payments and Jan 2019 to catch '18 payments if one is using the accrual method) on the ipsos website instead of every payment. You might want to just quickly check Feb just in case.

When you login to your Shopmetrics account, click on ‘My Settings’ and then ‘Pay History’, you will see on the left hand side of the screen, about half way down the page a button called "Pay Statements". Clicking on each Pay Statement number will display all of your payments in each months pay statements. There are excel and PDF views.
