Newbie here. I see that a lot of the gas station shops have Q1 in their title, does that mean new shops will come out every Quarter from these companies or not necessarily?

Ok, so I tried this new setup. Not much different from before and pics are only needed for non-compliant issues. Of course, I cherry-picked locations that, over many years, have been well kept and uniformed!

If it is from the neck down then they can hold a magazine or newspaper over the face.

I just completed my first Maritz mystery/reveal gas station audit. Based on the descriptions I’m seeing in this thread, I think there must be varying degrees of complexity. I had to take a pic of the clerk no matter what. He wasn’t thrilled but agreed when I told him it was neck down. I showed him the picture after I took it.

The total site inspection, though, took me TWO HOURS. The survey is structured so that you have to revisit each pump at least 3 times. I had a large gas station with 13 pumps, so I got my exercise. I got a $7 bonus for doing the inspection in the evening and an extra $1 for the diesel pump (whee). They pay $5 toward your gas and $1 toward your in-store purchase, but you lose money on the latter because even a 20 oz. bottle of Coke costs almost $2.

I won’t take the daytime stations at the base pay they’re offering. I want to earn more than $6 an hour.

Blue dev, the "easy" shop we've been talking about is a different brand than the one you're talking about.

Yours is more complicated, yes, but you will find that after you've done a few you will developed a more efficient flow and they will take much less time. Keep with it, you will see. And, heck yeah, get those darkness dollars!

Also, to stay under $1 in store, look for any of the following: single pack of non-Planters peanuts (.59), off-brand trail mix (.99), some Little Debbie cakes (.59), cheese crackers (.59-.99), small coffee ($1 when on sale). Options get slimmer each year!

BlueDev, Small tissue packs are between $.59 and $.99 usually. I like to get them or a bottle of water, or cup of coffee sometimes. Two hours is too much time for those shops. You will get faster. I have to stretch it to get to 20 minutes most times.

Maybe it is a regional thing but I stock up on Arizona ice tea products priced at $.99. And 2 hrs is way to long, 20 to 30 minutes is average. A detailed work sheet will keep you in a repetitive rhythm and cut your time way down.

Arizona Tea is now in plastic bottles in CA (most stores) and went to $1.59 plus CRV $0.05. I usually get nuts and donate them to Operation Gratitude to send overseas to the Troops. They sometimes have fresh fruit for $0.99, which is pretty outrageous for one banana. Although, I will pay $4 for an apple at the hotel all the time.

Oh, thanks for the tip and the encouragement! I am pretty relieved the one I’m doing wasn’t the “easy” one...I thought, “Wow, I definitely have a lot of catching up to do compared to this group!” Of course, that sentiment still holds true. ;-D

More great suggestions, thanks! Although, I was going to get bottled water on my first shop, and it was $1.29. Highway robbery!

I’ve now completed 3 gas stations, and you’re right, once you’re familiar with the setup and the current OSA, it gets much faster. The fact that I had a huge station and store for my 1st shop didn’t help.

CSR refused the photo, and I forgot to take a picture of the payment counter. Wonder if I'll get penalized/not paid?

You shouldn’t be. The employee didn’t want you to take a picture. I think it’s a little bold to expect us to whip out our cameras and take one in front of him anyway!

I took a few gas stations from the board. After reading the guidelines (40 pages) plus all the other pdfs attached to the assignment, I refused all of them. Each one is at least 90 minutes work, not worthy.
