I was asked to do a shop where i have to go in and collect pricing when looking at all the items they are asking me to check pricing on at the travel center it could take me hours ..... Wondering if anyone has don these before and how they handled them.

The company you mentioned is notorious for low paying jobs that take a huge amount of time for low pay. I have not done the shop you are asking about but have seen and unfortunately in earlier and not so wise days done a few other shops. One I did stated for $8 the call takes about 30 minutes in the phone. Silly me did it only to find the report took over an hour given the degree of detailed narrative required, To make matters worse I found their foreign editors to be unjustly critical to justify their existence,. My advice is to pass on it.

Thanks for your response I am going to try this first one and see what happens. I am getting $50 to find a few products in a travel center and I am not sure how this will go. I have been out of mystery shopping for quite a while..... Do you have any favorite companies you like to work for?

Thanks
Lisa
I did a shop for them and the store had NONE of the items I was supposed to scan. Spent a bunch of time looking online as well as in the store and, well, if it ain’t there I can’t make it appear out of thin air. I spent a lot of time on this and they rejected my report just saying that I should’ve been able to find something. Like, how? I wrote an email saying I’m gracefully backing out, this was actually my first or second shop ever and I was just really discouraged. No pay, of course. They were unwilling to step up and admit that sometimes the shop is a wild goose chase. A token amount would have been nice and gone a long way at retaining goodwill.
Yes on low-paying shops and unjustly critical foreign editors! Does BARE have shops that are worth doing? Sure but, IMO, they are the exceptions.

Run far away from these shops!
I did these for several years as my main source of income. Over 300,000 prices. Today My thanks was to be told i cant shop these anymore due to too many prices not found. The last project was a set up to fail. It was on my $15 pay for over 100 items just to have the obnixious schedule demand this and that. The items requested were non existant. Who carries a ham pretzel? Or what idiot owns a gas station and does not know that most gas stations do infact offer fountain drinks for one price for any size? Those are the things they complained about and why they doubted my integretiy. I hope who ever took the next round finds the same findings.
Oh and that $15 cost me money if they did pay me for those. It cost more than $15 for gas to drive to a gas station unless its on the corner of your street. Now they didnt pay because they wanted a reshop for free because the counts were low. The counts were low due to whatever idiot put together that list.
Thats if they pay. They just rejected my ahops for only $15 due to items not carried. If you dont find enough they remove you. I did work for them for 5 years. Ive been doing this full time for over 20 to find schedules that had been my friends just rudely discard me because the project was set to fail.
Personally I do quite a number of the pricing shops for them. I've never had an issue getting paid. They've never had an issue with prices not being found either. $50 for the travel centers is a pretty good rate actually as they take maybe 30 min onsite.
Bare seems to have a lot of questionable shops. Asking ICs to put themselves in awkward and possibly illegal situations. CYA every step.

I do still work for them on occasion, but I am very careful about what types of jobs I take. And what I am required to do. I won't try to bribe anyone, and I won't ask anyone to do anything illegal.

I did try those pricing checks, they are a LOT of work, for not even close to enough money. And they lie about why and who you're doing the jobs for. They never tell you the client, or even the purpose of collecting the info.
I am currently working on a project for them that includes pricing/photographing 388 products at 2 stores. Maybe about 10 of them I can't price due to scent, packaging size or pricing methodology (per/lb V each). The project takes 5-6 hours (I am getting faster as it is the same items every time at the same stores). The pay is 118 with a bonus of $15 if done the first day of the two day window. There are also 36 items that are purchased each round. worth about $200 - $250 that I get to keep. Some are useful to me and some I give away. Is it worth it? The hourly pay is a bit lower than I like to average but there is a good portion of the groceries that I use and if I add that value it is worth it for now. It is a year long project with 2ce a month shops. I have been treated very well by the scheduler and have no issues with BARE in general but they definitely have shops that don't interest me.
One of the app type wild goose chases does these but offers very small bounties and the items are almost never there. Smart. They get your effort no matter what. Win win for them. Lose / win? for you.
They will have a problem if you do enough of them. If your find rates are too low they want you to do a reshop with no pay. I never had a problem with them until yesterday. You should read the emails they've been sending. Its like they arent the same company or people ive known. The $50 pay is just because they need a location filled. If they ask you to do it again next month the pay will not be $50. It will be around $20.
Do the math. That is very little pay. Is all those photos killing your phone and battery? A new phone is going to cost you around $1000.Thats why i dont do those.
Does $8 even cover the gas to get there? I did weekly shops for $8 for them too. It cost me money to go there. I only did them because i liked the scheduler. Not anymore afted yesterdays comments to me. Only a few items this store carried. The client should know that.
With a little investigation, you can find much easier shops to earn $50. These pricing shops are a ton of time, on a buggy phone app, and its near impossible to be incognito in a place like a travel center, convenience store, warehouse store for hours. Do a search for the top MSCs, sign up with all of them, and you'll soon have a better list of projects from which to choose. Good luck to you, and welcome back!
Like many MSC's BARE has lots of really really good shops but they don't get posted. You have to sift through some of the lower ones to prove your worth.
They asked me on several occasions to accept less for the same shops I was already doing. No other job is allowed to ask you to accept less pay for the same work. Even the good ones arent good.
The gas to travel to these stores isnt covered by what little they pay.
Most companies youre just a number. They like to remove you to get new shoppers if youve done too many shops.
I've had this come up on a number of occasions - not with Bare but other companies and it is insane to me. As it is, this industry has barely raised shopper fees in the ~17ish years I've been a shopper. I can't imagine a scheduler would accept a pay cut, why on earth do they expect us to agree to that?

For mostly already mentioned reasons, they have been on my ten-foot-pole list for a while.

Im tired of being treated like i dont matter. I was a shopper longer than most of their schedulers. I dont get promoted like a lot of their staff did. No i get asked to take jobs for less and less pay. Schedulers can make up anything and the company believes them. Im tired of being treated like this is just a side gig. Its not. This is what i did.
During covid Bare didnt pay for shops that were accepted to save themselves. Then asked if id do them for less the next round.
They made no mention that my accepted shops were not going to be paid until i asked why they werent. Then they came back and made up the client rejected them. What? After my perfect score? And if the client is seeing them they were used.
And how far do you have to drive to get to one? Its not worth the gas. They do have a problem if you dont find enough of these made up items. I was asked to price cigarettes at mcdonalds and cvs. Cvs stopped selling tobacco how many years ago? Or fountain drinks at walgreens
