Sometimes problems with GoSpotCheck

I was reading a rant today about GoSpotCheck and thought I would add MY rant about GoSpotCheck to the forum. More than a few times, I have been doing a job using GoSpotCheck and suddenly the information was deleted without me clicking the delete button. The entire job. I have to start over from the beginning. It is very frustrating when this happens. Why can't GoSpotCheck have auto save, especially whenever photos are uploaded? Other companies/apps have this capability, e.g. Jancyn and Customer Impact. Yesterday, I did a 1.75-hour job and was almost finished except for one photo of the exterior which I had forgotten to take upon entry. I walked outside and all the photos for this particular job were gone. Text comments which I had added were still there, but ALL images were gone. I had to go back inside and retake the photos. I no longer had "before" shots, so I populated the fields with "after" shots and explained what happened in the comments. GoSpotCheck is a good app, but it could use some improvements. This was the first time it deleted only the photos. Usually it is the entire job. There have been times when a pop-up would appear and ask me if I want to cancel a job, but certainly not yesterday!

Sounds like Ipsos's Shopmetrics site and app. Shuts down constantly, losing everything. Multiple re-entries required. No other Shopmetrics site behaves that way. I don't even try to use it on the road anymore. I take my frustrations home and deal with it in comfort.
I am sorry that happened to you! I keep getting an error stating, "Uh oh! Something went wrong. Please try again." No matter how many times I "try again," the same message pops up.

Shopping Arkansas, Louisiana, & Mississippi.
Constantly get "Uh oh! Something went wrong. Please try again." Also, "No internet connection." Even though I have one.
The GSC horror stories abound, and I have totally avoided using it as a result. That I resigned from CI is a big reason I don't use it.

Was doing dog food recalls today in the big box stores with the tax kiosks they audit and, as much as I enjoyed that project, I remembered all the issues with trying to get reports done. Major PITA!

Given that MSCs pretty much suck, it's unrealistic to think they would invest wisely in tech implementation. I have an advanced degree in that sort of thing, and it's sadly laughable how all companies are so far off from best practices.

The Otter-less instant assign app represents a huge whatever-grade to the code that had to cost $$$. I have deleted it from my phone and only work through the web browser (and so should you).

The only downside is the former app incarnation would save photos to your library, while working the site from a browser does not.

I tend to complete the Tiger/Flying Horse and Mollusk jobs onsite, and have had to change my MO slightly so that I grab all my photos in advance of working the report in the browser.

Have synthesizers, will travel...
I do a lot with GSC and have never lost my data. I do get the no internet and something went wrong often. As long as I can enter the job it always saves.

I have found that putting a phone in a jacket pocket can make all kinds of interesting stuff happen. I tend to make sure the app is not on top (active on the screen) if I do so.
I’ve had the same issues off and on, even when everything’s updated. Their updates usually come after the device updates.

And, you do have to manually check your App Store for updates because GSC doesn’t send notifications.

Most of the older mall locations and big box stores also have reception issues, and now we’re being asked to submit from inside the location, which usually isn’t practical when narratives are required vs sitting in your car outside away from distractions (so customers aren’t asking me for help mid-sentence because no one in the stores has staff for that anymore).

I was advised by support to adjust settings to “offline” mode through the submit point to address the reception issue, and to avoid losing data for assignments split over 2 days. It’s worked most of the time, but not all the time.

Now I always make sure my photos have saved several times during the assignment because it’s usually not practical or financially prudent to return for re-takes.

If there’s an issue with lost data at any point in the visit, I explain it in detail in the notes area to cover myself.

Hope this helps.
I recently completed an 8 hr job in mens dress apparel using gospotcheck. I submitted the job while on premises because I had excellent wifi signal there. And waited 15 more minutes. Screen showed submitted. I went to my car to drive home and saw the screen now said "uploading..please do not exit app." So I did not exit the app. The uploading message continued all evening. I contacted gospotcheck by text and phone. They responded the next morning by phone, and their text support was able to see my imputed info, and somehow pushed the upload through a few hours later.. They also sent a email to the mystery shop company explaining the situation while they were still working on it. The tech rep said possible reasons for the upload problem was a) weak wifi signal. b) error in the job programming c) interference while uploading.
Was glad to get it fixed. Did 2 more gospotcheck jobs the next day. Small jobs, less than an hour each and they uploaded instantly while at the job site. I recommend anyone with a problem to call gospotcheck and have their techs help you. The one thing not to do is start the job over on the app as the information will then be wiped clean.
Yes, it will sometimes let you start over. Don't ever!

Same issues, same type of assignment. They really do respond if you reach out to support.
They are more than happy to talk with you. Years ago we had a long drawn out conversation about where the pictures are stored on my phone. They insisted they were there, but it turns out they are not stored locally. It took me talking to a few different people, all real nice, to get the correct answer,

Pictures stored locally is one thing I would prefer.

Yes.
Other apps prefer everything be done in-app, and also allow our photos to be stored in our device library in case of glitches. It saves gas and time (we are not paid for) to return and re-do the shots, and editing hours and work flow delays. Most devices record time/date/location metadata, so there would be no way to fake it anyway.
Ironically I just did a job for GBW using their app. First time on it. Missing pictures that I remember taking.

Of course my POS Pixel does the date and time in "not the time I took the pictures". I am not seeing them so it appears their app eats the pictures like GSC.

I hate using an app for the first time, especially on a drawn out job like the one I just did. The answer will be that "We don't want to take up space on your phone". My answer would be "I will decide that, thanks".

Thing was, overall the app was not bad, I didn't mind it for the first time out. As with anything, you need to use it a few times to understand how it works or doesn't.

I guess it depends if we are able to get this worked out to see if I use it again.
That message pops up every time I open the app. I uninstalled and reinstalled, but it made not a difference.

As long as the job opens, that is really all I care about. The app I used today could take some tips form GSC.
I haven't had any issues with it but I usually don't do jobs that are longer than an hour. I have gone to rural areas with nothing but cornfields, wifi signal is non-existent and it still functioned ok, the jobs just didn't submit until I was in an area with a better signal.
I would take pictures outside the app if you're having issues with it, the schedulers can upload those if necessary.
There have been 2 updates in the last 2 days (4/14 AND 4/15). Unusual to have them so close together.

Did an assignment today 4/15 and submitted on site. 6 hours later it still hadn’t uploaded!

I decided to check, and downloaded the second update. submission went through quickly, but not same day, so I sent an email to support copying my scheduler hoping to avoid issues.

GSC has its quirks, but the updates usually solve the issues. It’s still better than most of the others out there, especially the big P formerly know as The Otter, ISS, and anything Ellis-related.
I did about 10 jobs the last couple days. Other than the 'normal' errors mentioned, no issues. I don't remember update notices, I just assumed it was automatic. I am on version 6.117.0 (819). What do you have?
I’ve updated 2x in the last 2 days and have an assignment from yesterday that won’t upload.

Every other app works just fine. My providers show no outages, and my speeds are good.

Followed all the instructions to go through the normal troubleshooting.

Had to copy my scheduler on it all to cover myself because their supervisor loves reporting “flakes” more than supporting reliable IC’s who care enough to work through all the challenges even if it costs us extra time we’re not paid for.

Still waiting …

I did check out the GSC website during all of this and it seems they’ve joined the trend and have become part of another entity…

Update:

The app shows it’s lost all of my input. It will cost me more to in gas to revisit than the assignment fee.

I decided to channel my frustration and into an opportunity to complement the GSC support team on their quick response and suggest they reconfigure the app to allow us to save the required images to our libraries (like the other apps) so when this happens, we can recreate the assignment or upload “lost” images without … paying more than the assignment fee in travel costs and double the time for a revisit.

FYI- the other blogs are sharing the same sentiment with the issues mentioned.

Lowering fees and waiting till there’s no time left to offer a fair fee for that actual work involved sends a message about our worth I’d rather not articulate. Not knowing where you’re going from one day to the next for 8-10 hour stretches of time doesn’t allow us to plan and show up at our best.

Many of us care enough to do what’s asked, on time, do it well, and maybe even stay a little longer than we’re being paid for to accomplish that.

We all need to be listening to each other and working as a team.

I just wish there could be a middle ground, trust that we’re not all slackers, and reliable enough infrastructure so we can successfully do what’s asked.

Update:
GSC released a new iPhone update as a result of thus incident. Please download it so you can avoid this disruption. They don’t send emails announcing updates. This is the 3rd in 2 days, so it might be wise to check the App Store before you begin a mission.

Downloaded today’s update. Assignment uploaded in under a minute.

I commend GSC’s support staff responsiveness and they appreciated the screen shots and specific feedback.

Love it when teams listen and work well together!

I’m hoping they’ll consider the image storage on our devices suggestion and implement it so we can avoid re-visits when the app glitches or reception is poor.

How was this job? I'm interested in a complete set-up job, but was wondering how much merchandise there is to put out. Can one person handle all this? I assume the merchandise has to be moved from the stock area. I've done the plush toy shops and some can be a lot of work. Thanks for any info. It's been a while since I've used GSC and never had any issues.
I’ve done 3 men’s clothing jobs which used GoSpotCheck. There was never any back stock to put out on any job. Lots of folding, reorganizing and rehanging. Wear comfortable shoes.
I have not done any of the 8-10 hour clothing jobs, but have done the shorter ones. No folding on those.

GSC was hanging up a little on the initial opening of the jobs today. Submitted fine. I am on Android.
I did a 5 hour job yesterday and hit submit (while still on site)and it uploaded and everything was cool, or so I thought! I got a message today saying my mission was late. So I checked it out and could not see it under my activity or anywhere. So I started a chat with gospotcheck and they done know whats going on so they are having a tech check it out! I'm freaking out. This is bullshit. Idk what happened. The only problem I've had is one of my missions wasn't showing up when I got to the job but they fixed it.
Yeah, that would suck. Those pictures went somewhere if they uploaded. Hopefully they find them.

I have mentioned a few times that storing a copy of pictures locally would be a good option but nobody cares. I was told it is a benefit to not use up space on my phone. I have space and I should be allowed to decide.

Hope they find your stuff

Yes, it DID help! Thanks for mentioning that. Sure enough, I just checked GSC and it opened without saying it required an update. And so then I went to the app store, and sure enough, I had to update the app! So thank you for mentioning that GSC does not automatically let us know we need an update. I wish they would change that!
So now got an email saying I left the job open for 2 weeks & picked back up where I left off. Said I created a duplicate from april and kept it in there and completed my may with that one. Then she said they have the info so they can skim through it & build the job back out and reach out if anything needs to be corrected or updated. Then she said my grade will start out reduced 9/10 considering the build out was needed. I haven't heard back from gospotcheck yet!!
Don't care about the grade, care about getting paid
Unless you are a repeated no show, nobody cares about the grade.
Well she didn't say I wasn't going to get paid. I just don't understand how that could happen someone just creating a mysterious duplicate from a pryor month. What would be the advantage in that? It just makes no sense. And btw I have never not showed, I've never even changed a date.
