FIVE GUYS BURGERS: Shop feedback please

I already shop for their msc, but wondered if this shop is worth it or not.

Friend of mine have raved about how good the food is otherwise I was leary a first about eating there.

Many Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Its hit or miss to me. Sometimes, it's the best burger I've ever had - just prepared perfectly! Or, just average, and once really disappointing.

I'm a 'picky' eater sometimes, and I once ordered "little cheeseburger, plain", and I got a plain hamburger. Had to explain to them that it meant cheese but nothing else. I guess that's what you get with mostly high schoolers working.

The fries can also be hit or miss. Sometimes really good, sometimes not. Overall, it's a shop I enjoy.
I agree with dkk5685. The first one I did I shopped the place several times and found the fries greasy, greasy and the burger just okay and oozzed grease. I stopped doing them 'cause it gave me ajada (sp) Then the MSP called with a bonus offer for a location nearby and it was great. The fries were a bit greasy, but much better and the burger was really good. So, I guess it depends on the location, much to my amazement, they aren't all the same....It's much better than Mickey D's.

I like their food for a once in the while FF fix. Much better than the other FF shop offered by the same MSC. There are slight differences in both service and food quality in the different locations near me, but nothing major where I would favor one location over another. I always pick a location based on my schedule. One thing is that you must like your hamburger well done. If you want it rare or medium rare, forget about this shop, you will not like it.
I think it's a matter of personal preference, and I agree that the food can vary. Even in the location I usually shop, the food is inconsistent. I don't do FF, but this "casual dining" shop is one I will do, albeit only occasionally.
That's all about the food, but if you are talking about the report...It is typical of all the others for the same MSC. Very little narrative, but lots of little things to look for and remember. I almost always forget to see if there are ceiling tiles when I do a different location. Reimbursement just barely covers the price of the food.
i think its a great shop... never had a bad burger... dont like the fries so much... they never put enough salt on them... and they are too big... they are not crispy ... and more greasy than i care for... they call them something... i call them steak fries...

the shop i did they didnt toast the bun enough i though... but not bad

pay is good... reimburse is good... food good .. i think if they changed over to string fries they would be great... with mcds, bk, and wendy's all getting them similair i dont think it is a price issue..

form is pretty simple.. i find it hard to meet the max charecter count... i always go over then have to go back and rewrite...

long as you write simply and read over the questions its great... if you make a mistake it pops up instantly and wont let you go to the next page until you correct it..

shopping north west PA and south west ny
cooldude: They are called "handcut, boardwalk fries" most unlike what we are used to, (think McD's thin and crispy fries)

I love 5 Guys. I have shopped them about 8 times and always find consistant, delicious burgers and fries (that I had to get used to...)

I have never seen a dirty 5 Guys or a unacceptable burger...(yet) smiling smiley

The bathrooms are what blow me away. ALWAYS "clean" with the nice red accents.
I like the burgers. And the location I shop is immaculate and the workers are fun. I do not like their fries at all. They are greasy and limp. Kinda like Penn Station fries, but worse. And they give you a ton of fries. I can only eat a few.

If the fries are greasy and limp they aren't cooking them to spec. It seems the fries are what's talked about most here, it's no wonder that on the report they specifically pin down that you are to judge the fries based on their standard, not the fries you as the shopper prefer.
I like the food! I was introduced to this chain by a secret shop originally, and I check to see if my local one is still being shopped. It hasn't been, only ones a drive away.
I shop 3 or 4 locations regularly. The service is almost always outstanding, and at one location they're so friendly and attentive that I wonder if they've marked me as a shopper. The burgers are always excellent, though the fries do vary in quality. They're supposed to be tender, but not limp or noticeably greasy.

This is one shop I look forward to doing. And if it weren't for mystery shopping, I doubt I would have even tried the place.
I use to do one about once a month or once every other month. You are right MT, they are really tasty hamburgers, ;-)
Love this shop! My burgers with the fixings perfect. I haven't has a greasy fries. I can't have any salt so the fries just right for me. The pay?I make sure my out of pocket expense less than
2 dollars.
A novella or two has been written critiquing their burgers, fries, and report, if anyone is inclined to Search.

A time or two a month, I enjoy the food. The reports are not difficult.
Okay, the fries should be soft inside like a baked potato and the outside should be firm but not crispy. The fries should NOT be limp or greasy, if you find them that way, report as such...
I like 5 Guys, but the burgers are dry and over cooked. The fries where I shop are pretty good not greasy. not bad for a FF shop
The burgers shouldn't be dry, Steveo. They're supposed to be well done, yet juicy. Only once have I had a dry burger from 5 Guys, and it was because the guy on the grill was mashing the patties down with the spatula before serving. This is the kind of thing we're supposed to notice and report.
The worst part about this shop is that it tells you, right in the instructions, that the staff is trained to look and will be looking for mystery shoppers.

If you have a really, really bad shop-just be prepared. The manager/employees will find every way in hell to out you and try to get the report rejected.

I managed to salvage my report by daring them to watch the video (the manager lied about something I did) and got my (heavy) bonus & reimbursement for the location, but I also got dumped from the client's other locations permanently.

Personally, I think it's crappy food for the money-burgers are (usually) OK. Fries are EWWWWW, totally NMT.

Right, I judge them based on their standard, not on my personal preference. I'm just commenting that I only eat a couple fries to judge them. If I liked them I'd probably eat a lot more smiling smiley
I get the everything on it and that masks the taste, so I'm not sure if the meat is tasty or not. I'm going to cut back on the condiments and maybe the bun won't fall apart. I just eat the loose fries and save the cup for later after I fill the bottom of the bag with peanuts. The upside down tray and the cup makes good separation. Remember it's football season!!

And that's my problem, they put sooooo many in there and they're soooo tasty!
Yeah, I didn't care for the fries at first, but having eaten them on 50+ occasions, I like them a lot now. And, I appreciate that they're made from potatoes, peanut oil and salt. Beats the hell out of the heavily processed sh!t being served at most fast food joints.
Yeah, what's the deal with the ceiling tiles?! The grease spot I understand, but not the ceiling tiles.

I think that if the ceiling tiles were to fall that you don't get it confused with the toasted buns. I don't confuse them because my buns are always soggy.

If it's not being corrected they must not believe your reports :-)
Who is doing this now, if you are allowed to post that? I used to do them with another one, and liked doing them. The food is good and the bathrooms are clean.
